Last night in my shop (which is a game/dvd shop so you know) we were all talking about how we were getting a little bored with COD purely because it's the only thing that has managed to hold our interest for a long time. After trying out some other titles that were meant to be good I was unimpressed. We were all wondering then if the wider gaming community has any hidden gems/overlooked titles that would be worth our money and keep us interested until Assassin's Creed 2 and the new Modern Warfare come out. A good online multiplayer would be nice and age isn't really important.
Rune [http://www.runegame.com/], a viking hack'n'slash. Kept me interested for 8 years, so it should keep you entertained for a few weeks. Since you're interested in multiplayer, I recommend getting the Halls of Valhalla standalone expansion rather than the regular game, it's a multiplayer only game with better balance.

If you want something a little bit more hardcore than COD4, then I reccomend the following:

- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl (better plot/immersion) OR S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear sky (Better graphics/gameplay)
- Rainbow Six Vegas 2
- Far cry 2 (not that hardore, but still fun)
- ARMA2 (Very hardcore, may not be fun to people who don't enjoy simulation games)
Ok Rainbow Six V.2 is a fantastically deep and entertaining title, but all of the others will become laborious and boring to play within the first 15 minutes.

I still reckon shadow of chernobyl is superior in eery way to clear sky. But once at a LAN aprty we all ended up playing Stalker (single player) and simply discussing the game and what was happening in our zone. Was suprisingly fun, since Stalker is a very unqiue experiance and its fun to share it, Even if it is just to show the weather.

Stalker only becomes boring once you have spent 100+ hours on it. The other titles I understand your point fully.

Go to the store, buy some gnocci potato noodles. Go home, boil them for just a couple of minutes (they go quick), and then fry them with some garlic, butter and salt (the salt helps them brown). Serve them with a side of large curd cottage cheese.

If you have a computer that runs at all I'd recommend Quake Live. Halo 3 has good multi for the Xbox, as does BF: 1943, but I'll warn you, it's going to take a while to iron out all of the irritating connection issues in Battlefield.

Whatever you do, avoid Gears of War 2 online. It's practically broken.
Hey I actually like the online for Gears2, though i never did play the first one so I may be lacking a reference point, but it still seems fun to me.
The first one was good online, great even at times, so the second one felt like a bit of a slap in the face to me.

Persona 3 if you have a PS2 and an interest in JRPGS. If not go with Bioshock and either Rainbow six Vegas for the 360.

Already have it sadly. It is very good... Was thinking of Call of Juarez 2 or maybe Prototype. But then I also heard that Armoured Core For Answer was really good. And we're talking for the 360 here. Forgot to mention that, d'oh.
do not do call of juarez. i hear its storyline is confusing and makes no sense. im not talking about killer 7 confusing i mean it just does things that doesnt give a explanation ever in the game. or atleast thats what i heard. if you want a story or something that makes sense dont do call of juarez.

Sins of Solar Empire. I haven't played it much but I have heard a lot about it. From what I hear and see it's a really good game but it takes a long time to play and beat. I haven't used the multiplayer function but I hear it runs well.

other than that I would recommend stuff like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, The Orange Box, and there's always classics that you can go back to like Starcraft and Warcraft II.

Team Fortress 2.

You'll thank me later.
add some L4D, and you will be in heaven.
Meh. L4D is pretty boring, IMO. I mean, sure, it's fun in Versus for the first two or three times, but I kept getting dumb players that don't know how to wait for the best moment to attack.

Hell no, Valve games suck on consoles.
