Team Fortress 2.

You'll thank me later.
add some L4D, and you will be in heaven.
Meh. L4D is pretty boring, IMO. I mean, sure, it's fun in Versus for the first two or three times, but I kept getting dumb players that don't know how to wait for the best moment to attack.
are you playing on a console?
Hell no, Valve games suck on consoles.
thank god someone else isn't insane.

Already have it sadly. It is very good... Was thinking of Call of Juarez 2 or maybe Prototype. But then I also heard that Armoured Core For Answer was really good. And we're talking for the 360 here. Forgot to mention that, d'oh.
Armored Core is probably a good shooter. But the old game that had a deeper storyline and different results based off your choices of missions was far cooler. I adored the old one. But they took out the parts I really liked in favor of a FPS. -_-
Same kind of thing with Heroes of Might and Magic. Why is the console version completely unrelated to the strategy game?

If you want something a little bit more hardcore than COD4, then I reccomend the following:

- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl (better plot/immersion) OR S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear sky (Better graphics/gameplay)
- Rainbow Six Vegas 2
- Far cry 2 (not that hardore, but still fun)
- ARMA2 (Very hardcore, may not be fun to people who don't enjoy simulation games)
Isn't ARMA2 very buggy?
Still, I would either recommend that, it's predecessor or Operation Flashpoint. All very good games, and running around in circles is not a good tactic to not get shot in any of them, particuarly as your aim buggers up when you move.
ARMA2 is indeed very buggy, but I give it points for ambition (225 square kilometer sandbox war sim) and realism. Hopefully it'll be patched enough for bug-free play in a few months.

Last night in my shop (which is a game/dvd shop so you know) we were all talking about how we were getting a little bored with COD purely because it's the only thing that has managed to hold our interest for a long time. After trying out some other titles that were meant to be good I was unimpressed. We were all wondering then if the wider gaming community has any hidden gems/overlooked titles that would be worth our money and keep us interested until Assassin's Creed 2 and the new Modern Warfare come out. A good online multiplayer would be nice and age isn't really important.
Man, get Myst.
I guarantee you will never play another game like this.

Getting crappy team mates sucks, and can ruin the game, but I have a group of friends from my dorm that I always play with which makes it awesome.

I have been trying to track down a copy, I have such good memories of this game.

The game I recommend for everyone: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

It was truly a moving game for me.

And you can thank me later for reinforcing his point.
Actually, being a 'hardcore' CoD4 player myself, I really didn't find TF2 all that good... Sure it was fun for a few hours, but it seemed to lack the depth of CoD 4's online gameplay.

Yeah, if players in your team are your equals or better, it's a great game.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot ... ignore Nazis review .. it's epic start to finish
No no, it's epic from start to about halfway through, untill you pull random superpowers out of your ass and almost solely use guns. That was a huge dickmove, gone was the tense horror of the hotel level. I still recommend it, the first half is worth it, but as a rent.

Anyway, I recommend CoD4 and TF2. Both of those have pretty deep online gameplay that'll last you for hours.

That's what a lot of people think, but the opposite of true. I bet that TF2 has even deeper gameplay than CoD4 if you're playing with proper people.

the fuck are you talking about? ... seems all you can do well is quote yahzee if that's how you described the second half .. firstly SOLID gunplay only happens for the last 10 minutes .. same as the sonic blast (or superpower as you seemed to quote real well)

up past the second half you RARELY find a gun and the best you get is a few rounds before you have to throw your 9mm at som armed kids teeth before sprinting up to him, kicking the gun out of his hands as he staggers in agony and driving his head through some loose rusty pipe .. the grindcore combat and subtly is still there until literally the last stretch ... what game were you playing?? coz it sure as hell wasn't condemned

**edit** .. also the final half of the lodge .. but what the did you expect special forces to weild?? bricks?? ... gunplay was extremely rare but very well balanced into the game

First of all: I played that game long before Yathzee reviewed it.
Second: I don't care about the fact that the gunplay is solid, it's not what the game is about.

I wouldn't call it the last 10 minutes either, o no. The awesome melee combat is made a lot less effective because of those sonic blasting enemies (wich is, again, a dickmove), and the whole horror element was screwed over as well. It changed into a standard action game, that made me a sad panda. The rest was pure gold.

i never played the original so i'm not so sure what expectations were i'll admit .. while i though the gunplay in certain sections did fit in so well, alot of the earlier fans didn't seem to think so

apart from being epicly annoying i thought those screamers worked well .. scared me when one went off and 3 enemies were closing in fast while i desperately tried to get out of the screamers range since i was totally defenceless and my vision was royally screwed

ah well ... either way it's definitely worth a playthrough ... and for the record ... i never thought a bear would ever scare me so much >_<

Can't say they really scared me, those junkies in the hotel level sure as hell did...aw hell, when I looked in that mirror, looked behind me and turned around in the mirror again...dámn. Thát was survival horror, being afraid of a skinny little junky (while you are a big, burly guy who can snap that guy in half with ease) with a revolver somewhere because he can kill you with ease, while another junky wants to stab you with a dirty needle. Again, thát was survival horror, and it worked friggin' fantastic. The rest...well, it was fun, and yes the gunplay was solid (the guns really felt well, very real) but it wasn't the survival horror I was grown to love. When I got a lot of guns and everything was pretty easy to kill, the scaryness was gone. It was fun, that's true, but not scary anymore. At least not for me, I'm not easily scared.
That said, it's definatly worth a playthrough, that's why I recommended it as a rent for the OP. And yes, that bear part was fantastic. That bear was indeed damned scary.
