So after the success of the recommend me some books topic awhile ago I've decided to once again put a question to my fellow Escapists.

What are some good Romantic or just good animes to watch.

I've had some time off in the past week so I've just been blasting through animes, every time I finish one I manage to last about a day before I get bored and check out another one I've been thinking of watch for awhile. (My first time off in about a year so I'm not used to having free time)

Anyway the shows that I've watched in the past week are Chuunibyou demo koi ga shitai, A Certain Scientific Railgun, A Certain Magical Index I&II, Toradora and the next one is going to be Ookami San Shichinin No Nakamatachi. However after that I'm totally out of things to watch, I enjoyed all these series and would like something in the same vein if possible.

Others that I have enjoyed previously are Angel Beats, Soul Eater, Lucky Star(Which I didn't really understand alot of but it was still pretty entertaining) and Teggen Toppa, However I would appreciate avoiding the usual recommendations of FMA which I have no desire to watch and Cowboy Bebop which I have seen but did't like.

So yea thanks for reading this far if you have and the TLDR version is basically:
Recommend me some decent "Romantic" Animes. Oh and if they have downer endings I could do with a warning for that if it doesn't spoil anything to major.

It's not remotely "romantic", but if you liked Lucky Star, you'd probably enjoy Azumanga Daioh. I am given to understand they are very similar, with the usual caveat that Azumanga Daioh is by far the superior of the two.

I know I enjoyed it tremendously.

Outlaw Star looks good but I haven't seen it.
None are romantic though. Just good.

I've been watching Natsume Yuujonchou recently and really enjoying it. No romance (for the main character or recurring characters, anyways), nothing 'ecchi' about it, just a simple story about the nature of friendship and personal relationships with monsters and spirits thrown in as a gimmick that actually works quite well.

I really like it. Some of the music from the openings and endings is quite good, too. So far there's only four seasons, I do hope there'll be more. It's based off a manga, which I have not yet read.

Seto no Hanayome.
Funniest romantic comedy anime I've ever seen.

A guy is drowning in the sea but is saved by a mermaid. According to the mermaid law, he must now marry her. However, the mermaid's father is the boss of a mermaid version of the Yakuza and will do everything he can to stop that from happening.
The romance is pretty standard but the action and humor are top notch.

Other stuff that is also good:

- Oh! My Goddess (a rom-com with goddesses)
- Chobits (a rom-com with robots)
- Tenchi Muyo (a rom-com with aliens)
- School Rumble (a school based rom-com, also really funny in my opinion)
- Urusei Yatsura (it's from 1981 so the animation is a bit dated but it's one of the classics so if you're into anime rom-coms, you should watch it at some point, it has 195 episodes and 10 movies so there's plenty to watch)

Edit: I didn't read your original post, before making a comment, so I did not realize you were looking for anime.

Anyways, Ergo Proxy is by far my favorite anime (and one the only ones I've ever enjoyed.) It has a bit of romance in it, but it certainly isn't the focus point of the story.

Yea watched those two, as abit of an aside I did rather enjoy Chunnibyou although I might put it behind Angel Beats in my favorites but anyway it seemed to me that the voice over at the end was giving a similar moral to the end of The Hogfather.

As for the others I'm currently looking into some of them.

Very little of those have any romantic focus whatsoever.

Very little of anything recommended in this thread are romantic anime.

I still think its the best love story in any anime. All that insanity over one girl ...

So what would you recommend in the Romantic genre? Plus I did say as long as it was good it doesn't matter to much.

Well one person recommended this but it is my number one anime (ever).
- Clannad and Clannd After Story. It has a intense reputation of making people sad but I believe it is worth it for the anime in general. I know that I had a blast of a time. Heck my avatar (Currently in the making since I just became a pub club member) is the main protagonist from Clannad. So go watch it if you love romance/drama anime.

Other recommendations include.

Yosuga no Sora. (Warning, it is ecchi and has incest)
Kaichou wa Maid-sama. (One of my higher ranks)
Lovely Complex. (Good because it has a big difference)
Sola. (Pretty sad too)
True Tears. (Once more a sad one)
Kimi ni Todoke. (Highly recommended by many people, but all I know is that I like it)
Shakugan no Shana. (Only if you like long anime which include long drama and action stuff)

For now that is all I have to offer you, but I am sure there are some other anime that are currently airing. You may want to check those out too. Good luck my friend~

I'll do abit of research on the others and Clannad was admittedly already pretty high up on my list after seeing this

Hm, I might not be able to recommend that many romance anime, but I'll try, and then move onto non-romantic but good stuff.

Romance:
Kokoro Connect- I was pleasantly surprised when I started watching this anime because I didn't think much of the premise at first, but when I picked it up I thought the drama was very good, and it didn't seem to make light of people's feelings or internal turmoil as if they were things that could be easily solved just by saying the right thing. The characters definitely had a lot of depth to them, and it was probably the best example of anime drama I've seen.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun- I enjoyed the character interaction/drama/romance in this one a lot as well. I didn't finish it though, but I really enjoyed what I saw.

Hunter x Hunter 2011- I'd just like to start off by saying that this is probably my favorite series of all time, and I'm not sure if I can even suppress my urge to gush about it long enough to give a proper synopsis. Basically, it's an anime with supernatural powers like many, but I'd say it's merits lie with its interesting characters, their morality and how it changes over the course of the series, great story and writing, and with the way the supernatural abilities work, which is definitely one of my favorite parts about the series. Just, check it out. Please, I'm begging you. I can't promise you'll like it since I don't know you personally, but I think that if you are at all intrigued by it, then you will love it. It's currently at the 100 episode mark, and the series has only gotten better since it started.

Monogatari series- This includes Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari, Monogatari(Second Season), and the movie, Kizumonogatari, which I don't think is out yet, but should also be checked out.
Monogatari is definitely a very, um, interesting series. It has romance, crazy characters, and it's pretty funny, has very interesting writing, and will sometimes shift from witty banter between characters(the gist of the show) to the main character getting brutally beaten/dismembered, which works because of the premise of the show, that being that he is basically an ex-vampire, but has some residual vampire powers, namely limited regeneration, which activates more with how much blood he gives to the one that made him a vampire in the first place. Not quite sure how else to describe the series, so I'll just leave it at that. I usually try not to use amvs for recommending an anime to someone, but I feel like this one gives you somewhat of a good idea about what to expect from the show

Other stuff that I won't write an essay about to recommend:

Danshi koukousei no nichijou(Unique/funny/ridiculous)
Nichijou(Unique and funny/ridiculous)
Baccano(See other people's posts on the matter)
Seitokai Yakuindomo(Ecchi, but funny because the male is the straight-man, and the girls are the weird/perverted ones)
GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class(If you don't care/know much about art, then I wouldn't bother)
Hyouka(Very engaging and fun school mystery series, with a bit of romance)
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai(An interesting take on romance)
Working!!(Funny, fun characters)

There's probably a lot more stuff that I could recommend, but I'm just going to stop here

*was about to recommend RIN ~Daughters of Mnemosyne~ before reading that*

OT: After going through all of the animes I have watched that are considered "romantic" in some way, shape or form... I came (only) up with these ones:

Ah! My Goodess
Angel Sanctuary
Bakuman
Basalisk
Boys Be!
Card Captor Sakura
Chobits
Chibi Vampire
DearS
DNAngel
Elfen Lied
Eureka 7
Fruits Basket
Girls Bravo
Green Green
Kaze no Stigma
Le Portrait de Petit Cossette
Love Hina
Loveless
Maburaho
Macross Frontier
NANA
Negima!?
Ninja Scroll
Princess Tutu
RahXephon
Romeo x Juliet
Rosario + Vampire
Rurouni Kenshin
Sailor Moon
School Days
School Rumble
Shakugan no Shana
Shuffle!
Skip Beat!
Spice and Wolf (YES!)
Strawberry Panic
Tales of Eternia
The Familiar of Zero
The World Only God Knows
This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (I don't like this one, personally...)
To Love-Ru
Tokyo Mew-Mew
Toradora!
Welcome to the NHK
Tenchi in Tokyo
Tenchi Muyo (My personal favorite)
Tenchi Universe

A good chunk of those I know are good romantic animes (despite some of them also falling under other categories as well), although there are a few I would need to re-watch myself since it's been a while since I updated my main anime list in general...

Other than that... I got nothing... I don't find them, per se... They just come to me naturally...
