Everyone seems to have said what I would of. Only thing I can add is Alice Cooper. More of an 80's man myself.

No-one has mentioned Free yet!! Maybe that's because people dont think they're very good, but I like them and they're 70's alright, so here goes.

Their most famous song ^

That's basically all of my itunes, if you include late 60's music.

Really though, that's not much to go on.

My suggestion? You can't really go wrong with The Who.

If you want a more specific type though, like prog rock, art rock, souther rock... I could name a few great songs from each.

When I was younger, I had this friend and she was looking through my music and called it shit and said "who's bowie?", pronouncing "bow" as in bow-wow. =/

...and Heavy Friends...And the Savages It's 60's but. *shrug*

Do you have any justification as to why it was the golden age of music, apart from "it sounds good"?

Boston's first album, simply called Boston. It's easily one of the most solid, consistent albums I've ever owned, and it's still a blast to listen to from start to finish.

Yes! Boston are my favourite band. Definately check them out. (Their most famous song is more than a feeling, but they have some great other songs.)

Also try the Scorpions.

I want to put G.G. Allin, but that would turn her off of music.

Thin Lizzy.

Anything off Jailbreak or Bad Reputation is gold. Yay for 'Lizzy!!!
This, Thin Lizzy are the band that got me into music many a year ago. Not so much into classic 70's rock nowadays, but I can still give them a listen any time. Also, Black Rose is my favorite of their albums.
