Thin Lizzy.

Anything off Jailbreak or Bad Reputation is gold. Yay for 'Lizzy!!!
This, Thin Lizzy are the band that got me into music many a year ago. Not so much into classic 70's rock nowadays, but I can still give them a listen any time. Also, Black Rose is my favorite of their albums.
haha, same. Thin Lizzy are my dad's favourite band so I grew listening to old Thin Lizzy vynils.I reckon Jailbreak is the best album. Emerald, Cowboy Song, Boys Are Back In Town and Jailbreak. Four out of my top ten!

I was the very same. My Dad used to play Live and Dangerous every Saturday. Our player broke sadly, shall be buying another whence I visit Dublin (which will be soon). In fact I got to see the band (sans Lynott of course) a handful of years ago. They were great. Will be seeing them again this June!

Nup, shipping out to Castlebar to see them, it's only a few moments away, practicality and all that.

Escapist I am dissapoint. No love for Skynyrd? Ok then as the resident Lynyrd Skynyrd fanboy I shall offer up some of their best songs, imo. I shall be leaving Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird out of this as it's nearly impossible not to have heard them.

Something more upbeat perhaps?

Boston has already been mentioned but no Kansas? Terry Reid? Rush?

I also have to add this guilty pleasure of mine.

I find it weird that there are so few peole here recomending Led zeppelin since they were pretty much the biggest rock band in the 70s.

Other than that I would also recommend these albums:

Exile on the main street and sticky fingers by rolling stones
Morrison hotel and L.A. woman by the doors
Sabbath bloody sabbath and paranoid by black sabbath
The clash and London calling by The clash
Harvest by Neil Young
Who s next by The who
