Try:
"The Shining" by Stanley Kubrick.
You win, this thread is over.

OP:John Carpenter's 'The Thing' is a rare pyschological horror movie that has aliens.
My God My victory is short lived. The Thing was by far one of the biggest mind fuck movies I ever watched as a young boy. The whole no one is who the say they are theme struck me like a ton of bricks that movie had epic suspense!
And a very perplexing ending if I may say.
Sorry to go slightly off topic, but I don't suppose you guys know whether the PS2 game version of it was any good? I thinks its a sequel.
I'm gonna say the grudge and the first Chucky (haven't seen it in awhile, but watched it with my dad when I was seven, phobia of dolls since)
I played the PC version of the game and it was pretty good, but I don't remember if it was scary, it was a long time ago.

Sublime was an interesting film. Not the best thing ever, but still pretty decent.

Se7en is a must.

The Neon Genesis Evangelion movie is extreme mindfuck. Up To Eleven.

My suggestion isn't so much a psychological thriller as it is a mindfuck.
Neon Genesis The End of Evangelion
Ninja-ed.

What the hell even HAPPENED at the end anyway? Something about penetrating things with lances from the moon or something?

No, you win.

Seriously. One of the greatest horror movies ever. I've heard the original black and white is good too, but this is one of my favorite movies (not just horror)

And as for a mindfuck movie, Eraserhead gives me the heebie jeebies.

I mean seriously, what the fuck is wrong with that baby?

[small]Whoo! This thread is back![/small]

Someone mentioned Jacob's Ladder I love that movie as well, the remake of The Omen was great (I've never seen the original) and had some pretty good photography, I'd recommend both of them highly.

Second the Omen, although I second the original. But they're both supposed to be good.

Surprised no one has said The Exorcist yet.

Or if you want to be really fancy smancy movie buff, watch the Abominable Dr. Phibes starring Vincent Price.

Now tell me, does this scene look familiar?

Also a House of Wax (*not* the most recent) but the one that stars Vincent Price is pretty good too.

Dew it, and each of the ways he kills people is related to one of he plagues of Egypt from the Bible.

Phibes is classy, unlike Jigsaw, he's just trashy.

if you're a guy, dont watch audition.
you'll never date again.
Jacob's Ladder has always been (in my opinion) the scariest movie ever, with my fav horror movie being John Carpenter's The Thing from 1981 (with Kurt Russell).
But ...
If you want something different ...
Try a modern urban fable, set in conventions NOT of a horror movie. A movie where the characters are all normal people, with great dreams ...
but their addictions and escapism gets a hold of them and their dreams turn into the most horrifying of nightmares.
It's one of the finest, most stylish examples of great filmmaking ...
but I PROMISE it will leave you feeling like you just got sucker punched int he gut.

Old Boy was pretty harsh.

A lot of the flicks mentioned in this thread could have been ninja'd right from my brain as good examples of the genre. Se7en was excellent, The Thing was one of the creepiest movies I ever watched as a kid, The Shining is also excellent even though I'm not a fan of Jack Nicholson. I'm gonna have to go and watch some of the ones on here I haven't seen.

that movie freaks me out, the part where they set the one dudes corpse on fire and his head rips itself off grows legs and eyestalks... crazy shit.

How about "The Dentist" ?
My brother watched it free off on demand, its interesting but not that scary.

Seriously though, I was at my friends 2 years ago and I saw on xbl a "Killer Clowns" movie that everyone besides me was too afraid to watch. I'm still looking for that movie.

Jacob's Ladder. I simply cannot recommend that film enough as far as psychological horror goes. Superb, harrowing post-Vietnam film that is quite tough to watch but well worth the effort.

Angel Heart and Oldboy are other good ones. Angel Heart is more of a psychological horror, although for the most part it verges on being a supernatural murder mystery.
