World of Warcraft is pretty solid, and if you're after a sort of social-site crossed with a game then it's perfect. Although getting to 80 is a pain, once you're there (and if you're not a complete retard) pvp and end game raiding become awesome fun.

But yeah, addictive as anything.
Tauren Female FTW?

OK, I see the general populus suggests WoW as expected. I have looked into it and it does look good but for the time being I'm going to stay away from WoW because everyone says it's so good. Sounds stupid and rebellious I know but it's not meant that way.

RL 1.0

It's a 360 all around immersive environment, 7 billion players, grinding sucks though, you have to find a job and not all trade leaders might take you, might have to grind a few years of college as well, but that part is pretty fun.

You can do pretty much everything in RL1, best of all, it's free.

Although when you die, respawning is a *****.

I would never recommend WoW to any human being. Sure it's fun to level a character but when it gets all serious business and gets you grinding dungeons according to your raid schedule or spending hours in a broken PvP game it loses it charm and fun.

Final Fantasy XI is harder game to get into but better because it's not all about end game. More about the journey and making friends. I am getting a similar feeling with Aion but that is because I am not getting that hardcore into it. I don't see Aion lasting that long with the small amount of content that is currently available.

So what do I recommend? FFXI would be fun if you have friends to play with. Aion if you want the prettiest graphics and interesting story in an MMO. Maplestory if you hate yourself LOL. Really I think the next MMO that will rock will be Final Fantasy XIV but we have another year for that at least.

My friend that recommended FFXI to me is a self admitted addict. He told me aboout the one and only time he tried to quit and said it was difficult not for the graphics or game play but purely for the friends he had made while playing. He said that it is a communal game in the sense of interaction, making friends, party questing etc

Aion. Whose motto should be:

The only FREAKIN' MMO where you get WINGS.

That's my motivator right there.

Also, I have to say it's the prettiest MMO on the market, if you're into that thing.
That's kind of my problem with it. It's the only truly interesting thing about it.

So I'm new to online gaming and my friends pointed me in the diretion of some MMORPG's, namely Shaiya and Final Fantasy. After trawling through the internet and looking at different MMORPG reviews I came to one conclusion: who better to ask than gamers?
So if you wouldn't mind, which MMORPG would you recommend and why?
WoW...don't bother with Guild Wars. It's hardly an MMO.
IT'S HARDLY AN MMO??!! WHAT THE F*** IS WRONG WITH YOU? GUILD WARS IS AS MUCH AN MMO AS ANY OTHER!

I'd recommend WoW or Aion. LOTR Online was kinda fun. Also, I got a nice kick out of City of Heros. Basically anything with semi-high quality (and it follows WoW)

If you are willing to wait for a while and are a fan of Star Wars, then I suggest Star Wars: The Old Republic. It's not out yet, but it looks promising.

Warhammer online has awesome pvp but you need a decent machine to play it and you need to play on a server that has a high population.

World of Warcraft is also very good but (in my opinion) is very pve centered.

Eve Online is actually interesting once you get into it, try the 14 day demo at least because the game is very unique.

If none of those sound good then there is always Runescape with its mith, addy, lobbys, wild, and noobs.

WoW is a PvE centralized game thats good all around and fits nearly every gamers ideas, it has PvP although its a bit lopsided in ability and classes can be unbalanced. its got Teamwork scenarios in both PvP and PvE and its a great starter MMORPG... it will get dull someday and be succeeded by a vetter one and im waiting for that day, im an addict to WoW again after a 6 month break...

That was my introduction to MMO's by my ex a couple of years ago and that's what put me off them. I'm not saying it's bad but not knowing anything at the time I wasn't impressed by it lol
Now I've got my own computer so I thought I'd look into MMO's again and my god has my opinion changed!!

OK people everyone has their own opinion, stop arguing about Guild Wars, it's not necessary.
If you wanna argue that badly start a poll on whether it is an MMO or not in another thread, but not here please. Thank you! :D

My suggestion: Don't head that way stay with fun to play and more importantly finite SinglePlayer games.

so true...just don't do it
haha unless you somehow manage to limit it to only when you're able to find the WoW trial codes
