Hello fellow Escapists,

So I just got RDR today, been playing it nonstop. I bloody love it. Haven't had so much fun in a game in a long while.
However, I've barely seem to have touched the surface of the game. I've only done main missions.. and only about 15 at that. Done 1 gang clear-out, a few stranger missions, but that's it.

So I was just wondering what your favourite pass-time was? Exploring, hunting, bounty hunting, gambling, missions etc..? What do you like most about the game? What is the coolest/funniest/weirdest etc thing you've seen? Any secrets you've found you want to reveal?

Etc etc..

So?

I'm pretty sure I've spent more time hunting then anything else.
So that for the past time question. I've done about 10 story missions, a few side-quests and spent more time playing poker then I would like. I also like to stray of the beaten path, going deep into the land just to see if there is anything interesting there.

As for what I like about the game, so far everything. Well, the shooting while riding thing is kinda annoying but Dead Eye helps with that. Coolest thing I've seen was when I shot some guy throwing a molotov while we were both on horseback and watching him go up in flames. Haven't found any secrets yet, really.

EDIT: Just remembered, as a secret thing, I walking through Armadillo, when I hear gun-fire and whooping. Looking behind me, I see a posse riding through town. Behind them? A guy being dragged by a lasso round his neck/waist/whatever. I would have saved him.
But I was too busy being in awe of how awesome that sight was.

Marshall Johnson's wife's grave at Coot's Chapel.

Also, if you perform an up-close kill on a kneeling NPC, Marston will do an execution style...erm, execution.

I thought it was a bit slow at the start. Not that far into it, only had it for a day.

It also keeps glitching, especially during cutscenes. Vanishing horses 24/7!

I just do all the challenges, or attempt to anyway.

Poker's always good. Was very glad it's proper poker. It's a shame the AI are absolutely stupid.

Betting 240/250 chips, then folding on the river...

What do I like most about the game?

That I can overlay the theme to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly at any time, and it will fit perfectly.

Being serious though, hunting and exploration takes the cake.
RDR blows GTA IV out of the water in terms of exploration - in the sense that you'll actually want to venture around.

Listening to conversations is actually quite fun as well. Sitting around the campfire and listening to people go on about their day while others drink wildly and fire revolvers off into the air taps into a certain untamed feeling that's akin to the setting itself, and greatly helps the atmosphere to establish a comforting, but dangerous world.

Definitely getting famous enough so that you only get in trouble for murder and then hogtie everyone in sight, or hunting is fun as well as cards, liars dice. And if you haven't done so already put a hogtied woman down on a railroad track and watch them go splat for a surprise.

My favorite past time is hunting, oddly. The wolf population has greatly decreased since I started playing.

Especially when I kill them with my FISTS.

But yeah, I'm just trying to get to Bearland now, as my sharpshooter objective requires it.

I love hunting in that game, just adore it. I've netted myself a tiny profit from hunting wolves in Mexico and Buffalo in West Elizabeth. :D

Bet he wouldn't be to happy with Seth.
Also, I suppose my favorite pastime would be unlocking outfits, even if most of them aren't worth the time.

Ooh, I forgot about outfits. I've only got Cowboy, Elegant Suit & the cape one you get when you're Honourable enough. Working my way to get the 3rd outfit, can't remember the name.

What is the best one you've got so far? Are they only aesthetics, or do some have bonus stats on them? What's the coolest looking?

I really love the random encounters you find.
Like sassafrass said about the posse riding through town with a guy being dragged by a lasso or some one dragging hooker out of the saloon and threating to kill her with a knife.
Even came acorss some guy along the road asking for a lift then pull me off my horse and try ride off with it.
Shot him in the back of course ¬.¬

Seen loads of different encounters life that.

"Cape one"?

So far, it's between the duster and the musty poncho, both of which are quite easy to unlock.

Also, some have actual bonuses. The elegant suit lets you cheat at poker, the gang outfits let you blend in with their respective gangs, the Reyes rebel outfit... Actually, I can't remember what that one does, but it does something. There's also a lawman outfit that stops law officers from attacking you, though I don't have it yet.

It's a helluvah lot of fun, though I end up doing more of the story missions than I tend to want to do. Because of that I feel like I'm missing out on some content like towns I haven't been to yet or some weapons that I haven't acquired yet.

Also, Five Finger Fillet is pretty much the easiest way to get $1000 in less than 5 minutes when you've memorized the combination.

I'd be shocked if you pulled in a loss when you aren't spending money.

I've never sold anything, don't particularity plan to. I hoard in all games.

Edit: Also, has anyone else developed an emotional attachment to their horse? The one the comes whenever you hit the up button. I have. ^^ Me and him have been through a lot. He's brown with white splodges. No idea where I got him. I killed
the stallion you get at the start of the game
in my first ride of him. Yay for tall cliffs. I feel like I should name my horse.

Do the bets for that go up? Highest I could ever get one was $100. I started playing Liars Dice instead.

And, to answer the thread, I spend a fair amount of time working on challenges. I'm going to be a legend. And not just any legend. A legend.... OF THE WEST!

I'm concerned, because it's gotten to the point where I'm aware that most of what I'm doing is riding my horse somewhere, firing my gun a few times, and then riding back. I know myself, and know that eventually I will feel like the game is repetitive, but for right now I'm enjoying it.

I am completely hooked. I am trying to do all of the challenges and have completed Sharp Shooter and Treasure Hunter so far. Very close to completing Hunter and Survivalist too.

Now I must go to Meheeko and find me some herbs.

I like dueling the men that say i've killed their whatever and then shoot their hand. They drop the gun, i get fame and honor, and they walk away defeated and broken, their vengeful hand ruined by a skilled hand.

QFT

I'm pretty big into hunting. You just go out exploring the inviting landscape, and something pops out of the corner of your eye and BANG! You prolly just made $15 or more of materials you can trade back in town.

I also like lassoing people and dragging them around. You can also lasso deer, which is especially funny to me cause I don't much care for deer (been charged twice by them IRL). It just occurred to me to lasso a cougar then drag him into town and set him free LOL must try that.

I haven't played this game yet, sadly. Although, I do wonder if it's like the original. From the sound of it, it does sound like they added quite a lot.
