So my brother went and borrowed this game from a friend for a few weeks and just recently he decided to let me take it for a spin...

A long, seventeen hour spin.

I had no idea that a game could be so fun when the majority of it is just shooting animals, selling their skins, buying horses and playing liar's dice for a little extra scratch.

I just... Damn.

I'm now in Mexico with some pretty damn good weapons and two of the three epic horsies. The Hungarian Half-bred and the Kentucky Saddler, West Elizabeth and the American Standardbred, here I come!

Yup. I'm playing through the game primarily for horses :]

I mean, the story is great and the voice acting is pretty damn good (except for a few questionable accents), I especially like Shaky, the stuttering dude. He was cool.

And then John Marston, who I've deemed a "lovable prick" is one of the most badass protagonists ever.

All in all, great game.

Discuss what you love about the game.

I love the physics. And the story, the soundtrack...

One thing I hate, however, is that Marston puts his gun away every five seconds. I have a button for that, I can do it on my own, thank you very much! Also, the horses always run away right before you get on them...

I really hated this game. The map was copy and pasted, there wasn't much to do apart from the story missions unless you enjoy horse breaking, horseshoe's that control like ass, or playing poker.

Going on a rampage wasn't good because when your ready and done and its time to run away so you don't become Swiss cheese thanks to the sheriff's favorite rifle you just run in a straight line away from them because of the aforementioned copy and paste map.

The moral choice system is stupid considering the game is making you out to be this huge nice guy even when your shaking down granny for her last pennies. The missions, including the story missions were very boring due. maybe because of the lack of music, or maybe its because the enemies are about as smart as a chimp on acid. The auto targetting has returned but atleast you can switch it off.

Finally the story. The voice acting was good but it seems like the writers ran out of interesting characters after you left the farm. They were all cliches, and you spend the entire game doing favors for these people just so they'll do the one thing you need.

* SPOILERS BELOW DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME*

Why couldn't i use the ten sticks of dynamite i had to take out the government people at the end instead of running out like a retard and try deadeyeing 12 guys with a 6 round revolver.

(The brother who rented said game =D)
I have to say that the ending was my favorite, a damn good tear jerker for a soft heart like mine. I missed John so much I didn't save and got more challenges done as him. Until the damned kill two cougars with a melee knife came up.. Shat bricks trying it and nerd raged then let Dave play.. So yeah, only reason he got a handle on the game was the damned cougars!

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I played the game as a good man. There was no penny shake downs on my play through. Honorable from the beginning to the end. I suppose it's not for everyone, but it's one of the best games I've played in recent years.

While it doesn't spoil it for me, you might consider adding spoiler tags to your post. Hate for someone to have something like that ruined for them.

RDR is amazing. In no game has shooting things been this fun, mainly because of the euphoria engine being perfected.

I loved everything about the game. The gameplay, the story, the soundtrack... everything. I wish there was a bit more variety with things to do though.

I love Westerns aswell, one of my favourite genres, the graphics are also beautiful.

Pretty much this.

Plus, John Marston is probably the biggest fucking doormat in the history of westerns. He's presented as this gunslinging badass, but all throughout the game he's just a lacky for these mudering rapist psychos. He never takes the initiative on anything.

i liked the ending but it didnt make much sense. im pretty sure ive taken on just as many people in other missions and still won.

i also like the online for this game. it changes the game when you can join up with other people to do missions.

There were only a few things in the game that really bothered me, but overall I enjoyed the game.

The music was exceptional, the amount of work they did on horses to make sure they acted realistically was staggering.

But I want to say the best part of RDR was the scenery. I mean just look at it, and watch it for a little while. It's amazing. I mean, just look at it!

Of course you did, everyone I know played as the good guy the first time around. Admittedly, there was the occasional train robbery with my faithful bandana.

You missed the point completely, he wasn't trying to kill them all, he knew he was going to get chased by them for the rest of his life, putting his family in danger too, so he ended it all there.

It's just such a good quality game, I love it, for reasons everyone's already said. Multiplayer's awesome to RP in, too. Also I love the fact that John Marston isn't your typical badass - He's polite, and generally seems like a nice guy to be around who's trying to bury his past. Only after watching him do I realise how impolite most protagonists are.

I didn't have the same experience as everyone else did.

There's so much to do in it...but...why do any of it? You can spend ages hunting animals for skin to sell for cash. You can spen ages gambling or killing...but...why? What does that money give you? Guns? You get them all on missions and plenty of ammo for free. Horses? There are three horses which blow the rest out of the water stat wise which you can go off to find for free.

The missions are all painfully linear as well - completely at odds with the sandbox freedom of the game.

80% of the story is playing errand boy for information.

I wish I had the same experience a lot of people seemed to have with the game...but...I can't say I did, which is a shame. Guess it just never really clicked for me. I need to give it a second play through.
