Dude, think about most "fairy tales" out there. Little girl is stalked by a wolf, then is eaten alongside here aging grandmother. A pair of twins get lost in a forest, tricked by a creepy women living along, then eaten. I'm drawing a blank on many of the other fairy tales out there, but when they originally came about they usually weren't to entertain kids. They were made to scare the fuck out of them so they wouldn't do certain things.

Turning them into horror stories is just returning them to their roots.

I reacently saw a commercial for a new horror movie and it looked okay (but i dont like horror so whatever) so i was wondering what it was and i saw it was red riding hood... REALLY i feal like media is just rying to murder my child hood anyone else?

Michael Bay already ruined my childhood nothing can make me forget those horrible Transformer movies.

Also isnt Red Riding Hood directed by the same guy who directed Twilight?

And Tim Burton has already ruined my childhood with his Alice in Wonderland.

Except that the story of red riding hood is about as far from today's PG-rated version as I am from a sheep. The real, older stories are very dark, violent, and far more interesting. As I said the first time I saw the trailer, why couldn't they have just played it straight, instead of turning it into a Twilight-clone?

Like you I would love to see the real, darker telling of most of the old tales. As they were meant to be. But they're going with whats selling right now. And who has more expandable cash then rabid teenage girls waiting for the next Twilight.

Yeah, you're exactly right. The public seems to want paranormal romance, so the industry gives them paranormal romance. I figure I'll just continue to wait this trend out with classic horror movies and indie stuff until 'good' becomes popular again... It's worked fairly well so far.

Sometimes I really feel like they're running out of original ideas. Or, maybe it's more like they're playing it safe, with what they know ill sell semi well then tossing money away on what might not.

I think that it's exactly like what you said previously, they make what sells. The problem is that each movie they make like this, it just reinforces the trend and convincing people it's what they want. I can only hope that something happens to stop this whole thing in its tracks before it does any more damage to the film industry. There are plenty of sources of original ideas these days, the problem is that Hollywood refuses to look for them because it doesn't guarantee instant ticket sales. As it is, the only real way an original movie idea can make it into the mainstream is via the Sundance film festival (or other things like it), which is rather difficult to reach for certain types of independent productions.

To be fair, he did the best he could for a complete crap of a script. If you look at the movie, the cinematography is great. Just the story completely destroys the movie

Oh I know that some of the old fairy tales are pretty fucked up in their original versions. That's the reason why I brought it up. I mean think about it. Girl goes to her aging grandmother's house. Meets a wolf along the way that stalks her and then kills her grandma. He then precedes to feed some of it to Red and eventually eat her. A hunter that's been following the wolf manages to find the grandmother's house and then kills the wolf and cuts Red Riding Hood out. Talk about fucked up. And there are others like Bluebeard where the guy kills all each of his wives in turn, marries a new women and tells her not to go into a certain room, she does anyway and he kills her. The moral of the story? Don't be curious women! And there's the original Cinderalla where the step-mother and step-sisters have their eyes poked out by birds...

I oddly liked Brothers Grimm. It was one of the few primarily horror movies that appealed to me.

I think what is turning alot of people (including me) off about the movie is not that its just taking an age old story archetype and dressing it up with different characters and setting (aka Dances With Wolves, Pochahontas, Fern Gulley, Avatar), it's that the movie is just piggybacking off the name recognition of "Red Riding Hood" and then using the basic story to make another terrible movie about a dipshit girl falling in love with an utterly boring supernatural guy.

It's just made purely to ride the wave of money generated by the bafflingly large Twilight audience.

I mean, for crying out loud, I watched the trailer and could not get over the fact that one of the brooding "I'm dangerous but I like you so maybe not" pretty boys had his hair spiked up with industrial gel. IN A MEDIEVAL VILLAGE. You cannot tell me that this will be anything but a Twilight cashin that just ruins a good story with its sickly, angst ridden garbage.

Saw it as a preview when I went to see Black Swan. I think the alarm bells rang when I saw 'Starring Amanda Seyfried' and 'From the director of Twilight'. Suffice to say, I won't be seeing it, nor do I care much about it. But I suppose the concept is a bit interesting and the backgrounds and such are aesthetically pleasing.

i have a guess on what they will do after this movie:
take goldilocks and the three bears.
goldi is in college and meets baby bear (BB/beary) who happens to be able to switch from human to bear.
he invites her to his house in the woods.
his parents reject her.
but she sneaks in his room every now and then durring the night.

and if so; do you honestly doubt this piece of crap will be made?
