I don't think Arkham counts- I mean, it looks like he dies the first time, but
you later find out that he's the main villain and he comes back to life with giant bluish tentacles and the ability to summon slimy eels....

I mean that the instant you see him
you just know he's going to die.

Everyone in the Halo series whose name doesn't rhyme with Plaster Beef
I disagree.

If you're an Elite with a name you're frickin' indestructable. Even getting rammed by a Flood infested space station merely seems to annoy you.

You're fellow Marines in the Doom series. They're so Red Shirt they're all dead before you even turn the game on.
In fact, anyone serving in the Marines in any game ever seems to be doomed to a horrible violent yet anonymous death.

Every Stock Specter in Resistance 2, you see them but you don't even count with their help to begin with a few shots in they are dead. Just there to make you feel like it's not a one man army I suppose.... which means.... FAIL!

Assuming that redshirts can be either good or evil... Goombas and Koopas. I mean, they're just begging to be stomped on.

Also, russians in Black.

I'm going with Benjamin Carmine from Gears 2. He had a great character development and I actually cared about him dying, he was likeable. Moreso than is brother, whose death just seemed plain stupid to me.
It also helped that the main characters actually cared about finding B.Carmine before he got killed, as opposed to just saying "Carmine, man..." After is brother in the first game took a sniper bullet to the dome.
XD ironically, his last name is a reference to Redshirts.

I personally think that Conker's Bad Fur Day has a LOT of "Redshirt" characters. Almost everything you do has some very minor character dying.

The Barneys in Half-Life 1
The Metro Cops in Half-Life 2 (as soon as you get your mitts on a crowbar at any rate)
The Navy SEALS in MGS2
The Miners in Red Faction. Hell even their suits are Red already.

Remember the old man in one of the operation Market Garden missions in "Medal of Honour: Frontline" that would get his shotgun out and give you a hand? I used to restart the mission if he died.

Did you ever finish the game?

Im pretty sure if you ran ahead of him and killed the nazi's he wouldn't die and eventually would stop at the end of the street, but it was 6 years ago - maybe im mistaken *shrug*

My entire platoon as the Marines in CoD4, in the TV station I just sat back and let everyone else run blindly into the room full of a ludicrous amount of enemy fire and at least 6 grenades (if not more).

Space Marine scouts in Dawn of war, they are scouts (and so are the first ones to enter the battlefield), have crap armour and weapons (so more or less everything can kill them) and in the campaign they elect to wear red armour in a green jungle (hardly strikes me as subtle).

Anyone who goes without a distinct name in both Turok and Halo.

Conscripts in Red Alert 2, again, they make a habbit of wearing red, they are almost guarenteed to die and tend to do so at the first oppertunity.
