I have very strong opinions about religion. Im not a religious person, never was, never will be but I believe that one day religion will get us all killed. Already countless people have been slain because of their so called religion. What are your opinions?

My opinion huh?

I don't think so. It'll die out like everything else.

How many threads is this now?

People have been killing people since people have existed, people will continue to kill people until people cease to exist. That is just how it works, people will always find a reason to kill each other.

No one can say Religion is right or wrong. It's too easy to argue each point. You can say it's right because it instills morals into a person and encourages them to do good things. But you can also be bad, as you said, because it causes wars and even arguments between friends. It's too broad of a question to have a definite answer.

But if people die because of it then something obviously isnt right. Especially that most them preach about peace and love

Well Religion seems to inclined to be lords of right and wrong so yeah, whats up with THAT hm?

Religion is evil. Faith is fine. Now, for clarification, faith is ones personal idealogy of life and such, religion is the groups formed by similar faiths together. Now, it sounds good like that but until religions focus on just faith and personal wellbeing and not on personal gain and winning the religion popularity contest, it is going to keep the world in a state of hateful ignorance. Faith should be private, religion should not exist, people should just be good for the sake of good.

Religion's a lot like Communism. It would work perfectly and likely help make the world a better place for all if it weren't for the people in charge.

If it gives you a reason to get up in the morning then who are we to stop you? However, if you try to shove it down our throats then we have a reason to gripe.

I was born and raised Episcopalian but now consider myself agnostic. IMO the church is stuck in the past and their unwillingness to change (stance on homosexuals, for example) or adapt new practices or ideas (another example, the Catholic church's work to curb AIDS in Africa DOES NOT include lessons of contraception) has lead me to question their effectiveness as an organization.

Think of religion as another social organisation. People join because there are other people already there who share similar interests to them. It's just another club, like the Boy Scouts, the Masons or the Rotary Club. Nothing more.

it is a trial, to bring people to a social life. but i think it is better, not to cut us from our central brain with believing something. I prefer education.

We have a winner here. If no belief systems existed people would find something else to fight over.

People kill each other for many reasons. Religion is just one of them. Even if it was completely eradicated, a different reason for killing somebody else would just pop up to take up the slack. As a species, we just enjoy eliminating each other too much to stop.

It's worn out it's use. We live in an age of logic and reason, where we can explain the world around us with logical answers. Gone are the days when we needed to invent gods to explain things like 'Lightning and thunder'.

Name one good thing that a religious person can do that an Atheist cannot.

Now name one bad thing that a religious person can do that an Atheist cannot.

Though I'd largely have to agree with you, you can't tell me that it didn't make for much better fiction. I'll take a Greek epic or the Aeneid over most modern fiction any day of the week.

Religion is better if used properly. For instance, if you convince everyone that if you commit a crime or sin, then you'll get a one way ticket to hell; the crime rates would be 0.

Ha, this is the internet! The question would more be "Why do you hate religion?"

it is a good thing for some but it can also be bad for the masses. belief in a better place has helped people change the world. but religion has also caused battles like the crusades. So i find religion to be a good thing as long as there are no extremists. But more as a casual thing that happens when you need something to believe in.
