HL2 is specifically someplace in Eastern Europe. There's hints here and there, but the really solid piece of evidence is the Church in Lost Coast.purf said:Hmmm... yeah, this thread will do:

Considering Valve has said as much that it's in Eastern Europe also...Starke said:HL2 is specifically someplace in Eastern Europe. There's hints here and there, but the really solid piece of evidence is the Church in Lost Coast.purf said:Hmmm... yeah, this thread will do:

Well it's not completely unrealistic. It mostly depends on what the 2 guys and their enemies are armed with, and in that mission the two guys DID have sniper rifles/scoped rifles, while their enemies were armed with mostly Kalashnikov assault rifles (which are excellent assault rifles, make no mistake, but they aren't known worldwide for being accurate rifles at longer ranges but are mostly considered to be close to medium range weapons as opposed to a purposebuilt sniper rifles).dragonslayer32 said:Wow, that is pretty cool. That mission was one of the most unrealistic, you know, 2 guys take on hundreds of enemies but this makes it a little bit better.
Screw those booths, I died so many times in them.kidwithxboxlive said:Veteran camping spot? NO!
i was in one of the booths near the ferris wheel. i got grenade spammed but i actually only threw out 2 grenades and got hit by lots of flash bangs

So it's in an alternate universe where the Soviets took Coastal Highway 1 and stuck it in Eastern Europe... We'll find them yet.purf said:Huh, I'd pick all the Lada and Moskvitch Lookalikes standing aroundStarke said:HL2 is specifically someplace in Eastern Europe. I have profound theory that Highway 17 is actually north of Monterey, CA.My point is: some time ago I was browsing some "abandoned buildings" pool on flickr and this one image so screamed Half-Life. Turned out, it was the derelict Fort Ord north of Monterey, just at the sea, nearby the ... coastal Highway 1. Which "used to run along the coast between here and there but this segment was damaged and rendered unusable", why in this area you have to drive along the beach through all the antlions.
Hmm, can't really remember what difficulty I played in. But I do remember playing it through on a difficulty setting that was significantly harder than "normal". How many difficulty settings are there in CoD: MW again? (I borrowed the game from a friend and those were pretty much my only playthroughs so)MiracleOfSound said:Someone didn't play Veteran difficulty![]()
I know it is possible but still quite unrealistic, for example, after you take the main shot you get blown out of a building and walk around the corner to find about 100 enemies at close range with AK47s and shotguns. Plus, whilst waiting for extraction, the enemies are in their hundreds. Sure, you and your fellow sniper are armed with high powered rifles and explosives, but the fact that you would need to be carrying about a tonne of ammo and your fellow sniper is not taken into account.Housebroken Lunatic said:Well it's not completely unrealistic. Also one single marksman or a team of snipers waiting in ambush can pin down entire units of combatants in real battle conditions. Especially if the area in question is filled with difficult terrain that makes them hard to spot and shoot back at (which a sniper worth his salt is likely to pick if he's assigned to ambushwork/area denial).
For instance during the Winter War, a rather notorious Finnish Sniper named Simo Häyhä (holding a record of most confirmed enemy kills among all the snipers in the world if im not mistaken) harassed and pinned down the russian invaders so much they actually brought in artillery strikes with the hopes of getting rid of ONE single sniper, and even that plan failed.
I think it goes to show that depending on what you're armed with and what tactics you use, it's not completely unrealistic for two men to take on up to a few hundred enemies and still come out on top. And you might argue that "well one hundred combatants wouldn't be armed with only assault rifles designed for close to medium range", and in the case of some fighting forces, that might be true. But others aren't as well equipped in many parts of the world. After all logistics and supply can be a ***** for most armies depending on the situation at hand.
Life After People it was on History channel, they showed footage of Pripyat and talked about how it was an ideal place to look at the decay of human structures.AwesomeFerret said:There's actually an entire TV series all about what would happen if people up and vanished without warning. It shows what would happen to all the mega structures, reactors, power plants, wildlife and farm animals among other things without people around. I don't remember what it was called, but its pretty damn cool.Internet Kraken said:Pripyat is a very interesting place. It's a city that's been abandoned, but at time of evacuation the city itself was intact. It hadn't been bombed or burned or anything else that would due major damage to the structures of the city. Radiation is obviously deadly to us but it doesn't destroy concrete. So when you look at Pripyat, you see a city that has only been destroyed by the ravages of time. Like what would happen if humans just vanished one day, and everything we built was left to decay and crumble.
Yeah, its almost...poetic...or something.Internet Kraken said:Pripyat is a very interesting place. It's a city that's been abandoned, but at time of evacuation the city itself was intact.
