Everything was broke as fuck, the levels were poorly designed, the character models resembled a kid's mediocre drawing of the toys, the music was looped as fuck, the textures were dated, it had aneurism-inducing voice acting, etc. It was so bad that I developed harsher standards for my games. It also helped develop a more critical eye towards EA for me. This was around 2003.
This guy remembers^^^
But as far as I'm concerned I literally can't remember a time they were good

well lets see, dragon age was good, I actually LIKED dragon age 2 as well
The republished all the Ultima games and Ultima ROCKS

Bioware have made some of the best games ever released, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR (Sad how the story was treated in KOTOR 2) and Mass effect

My partner loves the Sims and I quite liked the Old Sim City and even some of the other quirky games in that series like Sim Tower

Black and White was a cool game

EA WAS a good company, it just forgot that they way it makes money is by pleasing customers, not by screwing them, not by taking things which are supposed to make free to play games money and putting them into Buy to Own games and not by the way they handled Ultima 8 and 9

You know what I'm really getting sick off? All of the EA hatred, I get 99.99999999% of all the hatred for it but come on guys, being hateful all the damn time is not going to lead to anything positive, if anything it will make us all feel very sad and miserable.

So here's what I want you to do, tell me what you believe to be the best game EA has ever developed and/or published ever. Go on, type it in, don't be shy. No one's gonna hate you for praising EA. At least I hope so.
Ah yes, Red Alert 2. Love that game. Then they made Yuri's Revenge. And then they made Red Alert 3. They abused time travel like a drunken stepfather.

(Edit: "They" isn't referring to EA, but rather the series itself)

I think most of the games that EA publishes are at least decent; they're just usually surrounded by corporate douchebag business practices.
The best? Mass Effect 2, probably. I think I put in around 120 hours playing and replaying that game.
Amen. Easily the most hours I've spent in a singleplayer game, and I usually don't even tend to like those very much lol.

Really? Being hateful won't lead to anything? It lead to Microsoft completely changing their DRM policies for the Xbox One.

If anything we should hate MORE.
But...but...that would lead to more suffering!

On a semi-serious note: they made Black and White and Bulletstorm, but I think most people dislike them is due to their business side of work. I quite like most of their games.

I may hate half of their policies, and especially their online passes, but they have made quite a few good games. I've heard that they said they have nothing against used games, and are taking away online passes (I don't know how true it is). So it is indeed possible that they are trying to gain back fans.

I like EA's games, but I do hate their practices of DLC and online passes. Honestly, however, it doesn't affect me as much as others since I'm primarily offline-based. I do like most of the games they make that I buy, though.

EA makes a large number of quality games. Honestly, aside from SimCity, I can't think of any games they've released that haven't been at least moderately good.

"Decent games" has never been EA's problem. The problem has always been the business practices surrounding said games, as well as the impact of those practices on game design. If they'd just get their head out of their ass and start making games for the sake of making games, they would solve pretty much all of their problems.
I honestly don't think EA's problem is their business practices. To be honest, you'd be hard press to find a publisher as big as they are that hasn't done very similar tactics.

EA just has some really bad PR problems.

They make better games overall than Activision and have similar business practices as them. EA also doesn't milk franchises literally to death like Activision has (Guitar/DJ Hero). EA also doesn't milk a single franchise to stay relevant (Call od Duty).

They make better overall games than Ubisoft and have similar business practices as well. EA also doesn't need a franchise to milk, unlike Ubisoft. (I'm looking at you Assassin's Creed.)

As a publisher, EA does very well, the attitude about EA seems to stem from people (even gaming media to a large degree) looking for things EA does with their business practices. EA also has a problem with PR, and I think them replacing their company president a few months ago helped a lot with that.

theyre just a publisher, and dont take much direct interest in any games that arent attached to money-spewing franchises, leaving many developers to slave and toil for their labors of love while people like OP to make threads like this to give EA the credit for it.

EA is too god damn big a corporation to blame. it is composed of hundreds or thousands of normal, possibly decent people whose bosses happen to have grown bold and greedy as the innocence of their trade is lost and they learn better and better ways to make money off us.

EA was good in the beginning because everything is good when its small and struggling and innocent. then they discovered sports franchises and it all went downhill from there. the masters at EA found a way to rise from the muck, to no longer struggle and no longer be challenged, and like any other people they grew greedy and petty.

i wont list any games, because i have no idea what if any effort EA put into the actual development of a title for the benefit of the actual title, and not just to fill their coffers; that isnt evil, thats their business. any good that came from any publisher is likely a miracle of circumstance.

thanking EA would be akin to russia thanking the snow that froze napoleon's troops instead of the soldiers and generals who made a plan and took advantage of it. yes the snow helped...then. other times you wish it would just go the fuck away. EA is the same; sometimes developers can use it to their advantage, sometimes they want it to just go away. both are forces that act of their own accord with no concern for how you might benefit from it.

"Other people did it too" is not an excuse for the blatantly anti-consumer practices EA likes to engage in.

Like I said, EA reliably publishes decent-to-fantastic games that are shackled to horrid business practices like Project $10, always-online DRM, and (occasionally) incredibly short development times. They definitely have a PR problem, but that problem wouldn't exist if their executives didn't try so hard to twirl their mustaches. A better understanding of marketing and the consumer would only help them, but it wouldn't stop them from being hated until they let go of most of those practices. They're starting to make steps in that direction, which is a good sign, but it remains to be seen if they'll stay the course.

But ea are a publisher. Maybe the developers signed a contract saying that could make their game quicker and cheaper than it ended up taking. Not EAs fault if thats the case. :)

All the rage it just your typical internet lynch-mob looking for a thing to hate.
Also, having a bad PR team at EA doesn't help too.

As a company it's okay, it's doing what a company suppose to be doing.

Every LoTR game that I've played were fantastic except for Conquest. The official movie tie ins, the Battle for Middle Earth franchise... loved them all. EA used to really come through in those days.

They're a publisher, so they don't really make games directly. There have always been good games amongst what they published. Just like all the other publishers, they try to get the biggest cut they can from the creative work of the developers, some of those devs can manage to put out great products despite the pressure, others fail.

While some of EA's business practices have been dubious at best, there's no doubt that they produce high quality games. Games I enjoyed include:
Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3
Dead Space 1 and 2
Crysis 1 and 3
Dragon Age 1 and 2
Battlefield: Bad Company 2

There are quite a few more I'd add, but meh. Their business practices may be slightly crap, but ever since the evil emperor John Riccitiello has stepped down, things seem to be going uphill. They have plenty more to come in terms of high quality games.

Post evil empire EA: Mirror's Edge, although Dragon Age Origins was TECHNICALLY released after the buyout, even if it wasn't made under the auspices of EA when it was coded.

Prior to leasing their souls between Cthulhu and Satan: Wing Commander

During the interim, wherein they were considering the wholesale slaughter of innocents for fun & profit: Battlefield 2142 & SSX

Honestly, I would LOVE to see a return to form, back when ELECTRONIC ARTS (not flipping "EA") warred with Sierra/Westwood for domination of the intellectual playgrounds of PC gaming.

Until then, I shall enjoy bagging on them until some modicum of sense and humility sets in.
