I heard(and this is complete heresy btw, it appeared on CNN but I have no idea if its true or not) that in China companies will hire a white guy actor to sort of hang around and make it look like they have prestige and international connections.

Again it was on CNN and I haven't bothered to check the legitimacy of it yet so take it with the same amount of salt as you do with other things that supposedly happened in China.

I want to point out they made the pun "minority report" on the top bar of their website so I consider the entire joke website entirely justified for that pun alone.

I have been in on meetings where the subject at hand is literally "We are hosting a conference - how do we deal with the fact that our company has zero black people?" The answer was usually to play up the Chinese dude and the two Indian guys they had. Out of more than a hundred people. There were talks though of hiring a black spokesperson to be the face of the event.

You know, I was going to say "actually it wasn't that bad" but now that I think of it I literally cannot think of any other people who worked there that were not white. And all three of those guys were hired by the same manager. Maybe he was the only non racist manager at the company.

...seriously, though, I live in one of the least diverse states in the US (I believe New Hamster and the Maine in Rain falls plainly on the Shane are within margin of error) and I don't think I've ever worked in a business with that little diversity.

It was all the result of nepotism. Two brothers started the company and for many, many years every hire was a family member or close friend (mostly family) of someone already in the company.

In China this is actually a real thing - if you're white they pay you to just dress up (be well groomed too) in business clothes to attend a business meetings with them so the company looks like it has international reach.
