I am fairly new here, as you are probably able to tell, I've also got no doubts that I am incorrectly posting or something of the like. But I have a question in serious need of an answer.

I have a family member who greatly enjoys reading all of my private things on my computer profile, and to get in he simply goes through safe mode and does all his stuff that way to change my password and get on. What I need to know is whether there is a way that I can stop safe mode from allowing him into my computer. Help is appreciated.

How does he get onto safe-mode? If he does it through the BIOS, you can generally password it.

Edit:

Don't tell him that, you don't EVER delete that folder... You rename it.

That's cold man

If he has an install disk then it's pretty easy for him to boot from that and change the passwords, I'm sure you can find a secure folder server or something if you google it, something that requires a password to unlock. There might even be something on your computer that does the same thing, but I'm not too good with XP

He gets into safe mode by pressing the key that is prompted, like F8 or something, during the startup process

Then you should be able to change the launch options in the BIOS.

That's the BIOS. You should be able to change the launch options there.
Awesome, do I just change them in the boot menu, or is there somewhere in the computer itself I have to go to?

Whoops... apparently I'm wrong. It's a Windows thing, so you'll have to start messing with config files...

Edit: though I did find this handy guide [http://www.wikihow.com/Password-Protect-Safe-Mode-in-Windows-XP].

Shared computer? You said family member and computer profile not computer.

Just to make things slightly more crystal so we know what to suggest.

so far the suggestions have been good, I am going to put a password on the BIOS later on tonight, I don't believe he'll get through that.

I suggest the BIOS option, and a fucking good slap.

Tell him to stop being a prick and invading your privacy.

But if you share the computer with him you can't put a bios password on because he'll need to know it for his account...

Nevermind - shared computer.

Is all your stuff locally stored? Maybe you want to consider keeping them on Google Docs or something else off the hard drive. Is he accessing your online stuff?

You only need the BIOS password if you're trying to access the BIOS. It's still possible to load Windows normally.

Can be set to either depending on your bios, but you don't need to get to the bios to boot in safe mode anyway. So if your password is just on the bios menu it's not going to stop him anyway.
