Oh, and here's some more, I'm gonna go on a rant.
When did zombies stop being zombies? In 4 and 5 they were just some fucking dudes. They weren't zombies. If you barge into someone else's homeland, swinging guns and talking about how great America is, they're going to get mad at you (Where have I heard this before?). And in Resident Evil 4 they started being "zombies" for a few hours, but then went back to just being mercenaries.
Resident Evil 4 was a fun game. The inventory system was okay. I honestly liked the old style better because you could put an infinite number of objects in that crate, but whenever you ventured out into the no-man's land, you were limited as to what you could carry.
Resident Evil 1 had a great story, and aside from they key quests occasionally being tedious, it played out like a movie (for what it's worth, I mean cut them a break it was 1998). When Resident Evil 2 came out, I thought it was quite easily one of the greatest games ever made. This is because you were literally getting 4 games for the price of one. Firstly, you had to beat it four times to know the real endings, secondly there were various plot elements that only were revealed in the A or B versions of the games. Basically, it was masterfully done. The weapon selection - though bland - was good! If there was one thing about Resident Evil 2 that I would say I didn't like, it was that Claire got all of the unconventional weaponry, and Leon got all of our favorites (Magnum, Shotgun... Death-Shotgun).
Resident Evil 3 was also great. It didn't really work as well as RE2, but it was still loads of fun to play, with the weapon selection being quite fantastic. The plot was entertaining, and the choice system, though it broke the flow, actually created some cool different situations you could be in.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica was a ridiculously long game. It was basically the sequel to Resident Evil 2, and despite what everyone else is telling me, I feel it was the PERFECT way to sum up Resident Evil 2's Story. I love Resident Evil, but in all honesty it probably should have ended with that.
But it didn't and I'm not angry. Now in Resident Evil 4, the story was tasteless. "Americans R Great" was basically what it was trying to say. At least the Regenerators made you feel like you were playing a zombie game... you know, the whole 4 times they appeared. The entire previous storyline was abandoned and I was left feeling the same. They completely changed Leon from "the cop who just wants to do the right thing," to some stupid FBI prick. And as one of the previous posters said, they just threw every key at you, without even trying to make puzzles. It was not good. But it was fun. For what that's worth. I mean, I beat it 20 times to get the secret st00f, and the addition of Ada's story was a great - if underdeveloped - reminder of what Resident Evil used to be like.
But Resident Evil 5 absolutely broke my heart. The single and only thing it had even remotely to do with Resident Evil was Wesker being there. It was truly the single most disappointing game I'd ever played. I'd with they'd do a remake of Resident Evil 2. You know, like how they did that rather well done remake of Resident Evil 1. Only... even better! It shouldn't be that hard, all of the level designs and story are already there for you. You just have to make them look shiny and pretty. AND BRING BACK THE OLD VOICE ACTORS. The actor for "Claire" was superb, despite the writing being off. You can't just make Leon some tough cop-guy. He was barely in his 20's, it was his first day on the job, and Resident Evil 2 despite it's flaws, was able to show how he tried to keep everyone calm while still being frightened himself. If you added more cutscenes and more story elaboration, you'd have the greatest game ever made.
IMO.
