Okay i don'T even know where to start. Firstly if you are talking about the series as a whole.Resient Evil is a horror survival. Resident evil 1 through 3 ( not counting the spinoffs ) are classic survival horror. Resident eveil 4 and 5 , is like a modern survival horror. Survivor horror as a genre, has evolved into more actiony kind of thing. But i think that is due to developpers trying to please the wider range of gamers. The Resident evil series really shows the evolution the genre has made. Some people like it , others hate it , as with anything.
Now for standing still and shooting, well, i really don't know what to say to this. Realism ? Run and gunning is not as effective as one might think. A person is A LOT more precise when they are standing still and aiming rather than running and gunning. Run and Gun makes more sense in a game like Left 4 Dead , because Zombies in that game are basically humans with a taste for flesh. Thus getting shot once or twice would make them topple over and die. Zombies in Resident evil , are more like, Super Humans with a taste for flesh. The T virus ( in the older games ) and the parasite bug in RE4 and 5 basically makes the infected, more resilient, stronger, more durable (as well as being mind controlled?) than classic zombies.A single bullet doesn't cut it. You really need to hit them where it hurts for them to die ( basically where the parasite is exposed ), and to do so you really need to aim .
Anyways this is my take on it , take it or leave it if you will .
