Ya know what I haven't heard yet about DNF? The actual game length. Is DNF a great, long, coiling piece of shit or, is it a little bitty rabbit-pebble like Homefront?
Hahaha...that made me laugh.

To answer your question...it is about 8 hours long, give or take how frustrated you get.

So I would call it a wet nugget from a small yippy dog.

Well, I find DNF to be very entertaining...
I guess the 2 weapon limit would bring some ballance, if the ego bar didn't instantly recharge the moment you don't get hit for 2 seconds, but still, entertaining.
[sup]Could use more ponies though...[/sup]

I've only played the demo recently OP, but I agree with you on so many points. It was utterly TERRIBLE. I wasn't expecting some amazing game, all I wanted was a decent entertaining game. I was looking forward to finally being able to get my hands on it and was completely let down by how insanely dull and unfocused the whole thing was.

Seriously guys, it's a complete mess of a game, don't listen to the hype and the payed for reviews. It got everything so very wrong.

I almost pre-ordered it and was really looking forward to it, luckily I saved my money due to how many good games are coming out this year. I'll buy it when it's 20 bucks entirely for novelty value when there is nothing else to buy, possibly.

I rarely play a game that is such a shoddy mess. The marketing campaign and Gearbox's enthusiasm must have had a hell of a budget to make this turd seem full of life.

Biggest waste of money for this year in my opinion...I'm so bummed about this.
Toy car level did it for me, it was quite enough to uninstall the game...yes I couldn't muster a strength to finish it...
Graphics didn't bother me at all, optimization bothered me a lot!
I'm playing the old Duke again, need to remove this shit from my brain...

I'm not really surprised, my respect for Gearbox has dropped considerably. Before anyone mentions that they didn't start the game, they certainly finished it, there whole hype campaign behind the game was terrible too, and to release it in such a shoddy state is just awful, no surprised the press didn't get a hold of it until after the official release, they KNEW the game was terrible.

And yes yes, I get what Duke is, but I stopped being sexist and fantasizing about being a shallow Rambo/Ash ripoff when I was 13.

Yes, you're a lucky person indeed! I recieved a review sample two days ago and agree with 99% of what the opening post mentions. It's a shame because at it's core, everything Duke related is there: Onle-liners, the typical enemies and so on, but worse than the dated technicals is this strange feeling of detatchment. Absolutely nothing interesting happens in the first five hours of gameplay.

My tip: Save your money for 'Alice: Madness Returns'. That game has kinda clunky controls but is worth playing for the fucking gorgeous, twisted world alone.

It's about 9-10 hours long. That includes the atrocious search for 'Ego Boosts' items that increase you health. Without them you're pretty defenseless in the last third of the game. All thanks to unfair level design.

Quite frankly, I think the only reason this is getting so much publicity, pre-release hype and praise is because it's Duke Nukem, people have been waiting 15+ years for it, and it's a sequel to an iconic franchise.
If this game was released under a new character, name, franchise, and all that, and had been in development for, let's say, 2 years, it would be dead in the water already.
Nobody would like it, want it, or give a shit about it.

Thus, I think that, on release, everyone'll be either a) dissapointed, or b) (Most likely) Everyone will continue the hype over the finish line, giving it the 10/10 and 5* ratings they think it deserves, before sobering up from the hype and coming to their senses, realizing it for the distinctly less impressive game it is, similiar to what happened to MW2.
Everyone loved the Multiplayer, but about 2-3 months after release many people, myself included, sort of woke up to how broken, unbalanced, and skullfuckingly broken it really was.

Except, with Duke, it'll be how average it is. Everything will work fine, but be underwhelming.

The game was a let down. I figured due to the hype that it would be a let down but I honestly thought it would have been a alot better than what is was. I personally dont think it reached the level of the previous titles.

Graphics: Meh. Doom 3 level, perhaps HL2 with a pinch of salt.
Sound: Decent. Duke is Duke, there's some irritating noises, but its okay. Shotgun is a rehash of Max Payne, which is interesting...
Gameplay: On PS3, i found it irritating. I should have gotten the PC version, then i would've flown through this game.
Story: What story? Its Duke Fucking Nukem

Gripes:
- Long loading times after every damn death, every time you go someplace in the menu, just massive loading (40 secs is too generous. Try a minute and a half. I had ZP's up and running every time i died, just so i had something to do). It should have been called Duke Nukem Forever Loading
- Weapons: God dammit, its Duke Nukem. He had over 10 weapons to choose from in 3D, why would you want to change that? If its a hardware issue, take them off me after every mission so i can find them again, i dont care.

Good things:
- Boobs, basically everywhere. I'm surprised Duke doesnt have a set.
- Humour: It's there. Its funny in a backwards sort of way. Definately not highbrow.
- Alternate game back stabbing: "Power Armour is for pussies." "Lo Wang was here." "A crowbar would really come in handy roundabout now." WHY ISN'T THERE MORE STUFF LIKE THIS IN GAMES THESE DAYS?!
- Its Duke Nukem: I'm 26, so i was playing Duke Nukem 3D when i was about 12. It was the best game around, and I still bust it out and play it occasionally on DOSBox. Forever has game nostalgia points, hands down.

Summary:
- Lets face it, its a piece of shit, but its shit with history. It's like if you found a nut in the shape of a ball when you were a kid, found it hilarious and put it in a box at the bottom of your cupboard and forgot about it. Then when you move out, you're going through your shit and you find your ball-nut, and have a bit of a chuckle then throw it in with your stuff. Its meaningless, its probably only important to you, and you wouldn't miss it if you lost it - but you still get *something* from it, and thats what this game is.

All the Duke Nukem games were really meh and are saved primarily by nostalgia. Frankly its an ok game, not worth the longer than starcraft 2 wait.

Just starting, played about as much as you've ranted about.

Beyond it's failure to live up to 12 years of nostalgia-driven hype, I can't really see what's wrong with it yet :/. Seems fun enough if your expectations are a sensible. But, by it's nature, most expectations are not...

So everyone was expecting a wise cracking, royal rumble, boob groping, gum chewing, massacre fest?

Well alright then enjoy that.

I'm going to go play the massacre fest that is Painkiller. Shurikuns and Lightning ftw. But I am more for the 5 stack/bouncing bomb gun.

Did you get to try out the multiplayer?
Yes I did.

I only played one full round in one map though. All players were shrunk and the whole level was a big kitchen, which I thought was actually really clever and cool.

But then I realized that your success depends entirely on two weapons. The instakill tractor-beam thingy and that double rocket launcher thing you use to kill the big cycloid at the start.

Those weapons are so absurdly powerful that all the others are just wet newspapers by comparison.
Well that... Really sucks, the shotgun and rail gun are total trash?

I dont know if they can be chosen. The round I played, you just started off with the pistol and picked up weapons around the area.

And yes what I meant was the rail gun. And the other rocket launcher thingy, I dunno what it was called, The Devastator or something? I dunno, not playing it, cant remember, dont care.

What.
You're the first person i've seen to label Duke 3D "meh". Congratulations.

Anywho, hopefully getting my copy tomorrow, with my hopes being nothing less than dampened. Still, seems like I'll at least get a kick out of it, which is good enough for me! I'll just go back and play 3D for now.

I'm sorry but I just have to ask, why did you expect the game to be good? It's been cancelled one or two times, and has had a 12 year development cycle. These are not good signs.
