So get this. I was watching a mate of mine play Call of Duty MW3 and Battlefield later that day, and I noticed (not for the first time) that it was all about American soldiers beating down the doors of pretty much every other country (I haven't played it, but apparently Uncharted 3 starts this shit as well) and I thought this- what if we could play a game in the role of a minority or a terrorist group or something. Alright, alright most war games used to about WW2 and rehashing America's sole moment of glory, but with the modern day FPS riding high, why not have a game set in an alternate version of Earth circa 2011 and play as the "bad" guys. It's not just FPS games that have got me thinking about this. My idea of an ultimate game would be a sandbox game where you take on the role as a central villain. GTA:San Andreas was a step in the right direction, and Saints Row the Third was good but a bit boring and repetitive. Even an RPG would be great to play like this. Not like the Fable kind of evil mind you, there still needs to be a middle ground so you're character is not basically Hitler all the time (unless that's your thing). I understand that there would be plot holes that would be challenging to fill in(especially if a sequel is involved), but that's why you hire professional writers for Christ's sake. Perhaps they could use some of the spare writers of MW3 that are kicking around because they only had to work for like 5 weeks.
Anyway, to the point, what kind of games do you think playing as a villain could have great potential, and why?
