Yes I am aware that I didn't capitalize like and nazi. Don't really care mom.
This. You're allowed to have any opinion on the Escapist, so long as it's the same as everyone else's, if not you're just stupid or misguided.

Much as it's been said by squillions of people already, I like ZP and Extra Credits. I also enjoy Yahtzee's other column Extra Punctuation, alongside webcomics Critical Miss and Stolen Pixels, though the last one obviously seems to have stopped. The Escapist is a very good mix of entertainment and insight along with its serious reviews.

Only things I don't like are certain parts of the community for a general intolerance of others' opinions, and I don't like how you can't have a reasonable discussion about controversial topics without either the aforementioned members of the community, or even worse the staff becoming rabid fundamentalists taking one side or the other. But this is a problem with people, rather than the Escapist as an entity.

I generally enjoy the non "celebrity" reviews, as they are generally the balanced reviews that are the most professional. Also the news on all things nerd is fantastic as opposed to just being a video game site, I can get info on a lot of things here. There is also Movie Bob who I enjoy 75% of the time, despite his sometimes childish complaints.

However, I dislike a few things on here as well. ZP isn't that funny. The forums are generally well moderated but just like in real life, there are some real dicks around. And I can't count how many times I have discovered nerdy news up to 2 days before the Escapist posts anything about it. I feel like I could add to the news section a lot of times before any one else could get around to it.

Shamus Young, Yahtzee, Extra Credits, Movie Bob (on occasion...). They're all alright.

I hate the news team and reviewers though, or I should say, I hate their style. The news is always slated in a bias way rather then objectively ("Pirates are all evil and should go die, dumbing down games is good, Activision isn't evil because all they want is money etc etc").

Also, a couple of the reviews in the past have struck me as...odd. Putting it politely.

I enjoy a debate on the forums, though strong opinions never seem welcome I've noticed.

I think that the community of the place is fantastic, and that it has a lot of great shows for entertainment and enlightenment on various topics. Its also a great place to find out news about the gaming industry and other cool stuff, although it can be a bit slow on uptake on the odd occasion.

Criticisms? Unannounced absences of video series. It very much annoys me that The Escapist feels that they should keep people in the dark and offer no explanation for why certain video series just suddenly vanish into thin air (see: Unforgotten Realms). It would be nice to have some kind of announcement about why, even if its just 'we can't explain due to personal reasons'.

Furthermore, there has been some controversy over the strict ban hammer of The Escapist, and I still don't like the new system... still, the strictness is probably for the better, since the community could very well collapse into 4chan-like chaos without proper moderation.

I'm really, really, really sickened by the communities excess snobbery on 'games are art'.
Oh and the bandwagoning, "Oh I want to have a pony avatar because everyone else does", "I want to hate cod because everyone else does", "The original Half life was perfect because everyone else says so"

Urgh

Edit, also don't get me started on what happens to people who say Portal was "ok"
you basically wrote my answer for me

Evolution is pretty much science fact now, like gravity. It's the origin of the species we can't conclusively prove. But you're absolutly right about music though, it's like if you like anything other than metal your opinion dosn't matter :/

I generally enjoy the website. My only problem is the lack of information concerning their shows leaving or being delayed. Like Lisa Foiles, we had no indication of what she was doing or what was going to happen, until they took her off.

I tend to check the forums quite regularly, and hang around on here. I also get quite a bit of my gaming information from here, as IGN is meh, via the articles and whatnot. You do get a lot of pretentious snobs on here but I think that happens everywhere so I'm not too fussed . . . . .

I also watch Zero Punctuation, Extra Credits and Miracle of Sound. I'll occasionally watch Unskippable if it's a game I know of/have played, and I'll watch Moviebob if he's reviewing a film I'm interested in.

Zero Punctuation is comedic gold, although as reviews I can't really take them seriously anymore.

Extra Credits provide a genuinely insightful and intellegent view of the gaming industry and of gamings place in the world. Keep it up guys! *thumbs up*

Anything by Movie Bob I can't keep away from, they're clever, funny, poignant relevent to my interests and remarkably engaging. I think these are my favourites.

Stolen Pixels and Name Game are very good and I kinda liked Doraleous.

There was a live action series on here where fantasy game people came out into the real world, that was okay.

Rebecca Mays was awesome but I havn't looked at the new music guy.

Whatever happened to Top 5 with Lisa Foiles? that was fun.

The Escapist is good for Zero Punctuation, MovieBob, The Big Picture, and Extra Credits (and Daily Drop but only when I'm really bored). There have been some good shows in the past (Doomsday Arcade and VERY early episodes of Unforgotten Realms for example) but also some weird ones (I never really liked Drawn by Pain).

VERY rarely do I go on the forums but when I do I try to be as constructive and open as possible. However, considering that this after all, the internet, chances are I and people like me are in short supply.

The reviews themselves (the articles I should say) are diverse enough to get a different angle on pretty much every new/popular game out there, which is something unique considering that most reviewing websites seem to have all of their reviewers agree on if a game is good or bad as a whole rather than have many differing opinions.

All in all, there's enough on this website to interest anyone at least a little bit, so it's definitely worth a look. However since this thread was made and maintained by people with community profiles, then chances are most of what I said you already know whether or not you agree with it.

The only regular content I stick around for now is Extra Credits and Critical Miss.
Zero Punctuation has become far too world-hating even for a cynic like me; there's only so much vitriol you can sling at games (well, at anything really) before you either burn out, or descend into a jaded mess.

Ever since around January, the site's technical performance has slowed to a crawl.
I often have to refresh or reload a page two to three times (or more) to read or watch anything.
And no, it isn't my ISP. Every other site I frequent/use still works just as it did a year ago.
Every Wednesday, the site becomes flat-out unusable due to the massive influx of traffic for Zero Punctuation.

The forum quality has been degrading (and apparently have been long before I got here, but who am I to judge?). Of course, that's to be expected; the more popular a website becomes, the more dick-whistles there are and the more overwhelmed the site's moderators will become.

I would normally enjoy engaging in ethical and philosophical debate on the requisite forums, but over the past year it's become more of a playground for "Angry Crusading Atheists"; Of course, now that I realize how futile it is to argue politics and beliefs over the internet, I just stick to the gaming and off-topic boards...which have been clogged with fad topics about zombies, avatars, ponies etc just so scrubs can earn their "Hot Topic" badges without actually generating any real discussion.

ZP, Jim and the forums really.

I just stick my head in when I've got a few minutes, check the hot & recent threads, see if there's anything interesting on the frontpage then bugger off again. I don't have the time to 'hang around' on sites anymore, but the forums make for an interesting lunchtime read.

If you are aware that you did your post wrong then why did you not just fix it?

This isn't in any way localised to the Escapist, you'll find the same kind of labelling on any forum with at least a slightly educated userbase. The reason you might perceive it to be something of the Escapist is that most of the users here are pretty smart people when compared to other internet forums.

Anyway, I like Zero Punctuation, and Extra Credits is pretty good sometimes. I mostly like the forums and the articles themselves, I find them far superior to anything like Kotaku.

I like it!

Good forums (sure it's not like the forums on a couple websites I go to where even if you have ±60 posts you can be fairly well known), and the community can be...ehhh at times, but still...

Good videos! Sure, my favourite (UR) had to go, but I still enjoy the content when I do watch it - despite saying this, I haven't watched much lately, but I digress.

Good articles! Now this is one of the areas where the escapist comes to the fore - as one of the few websites I open automatically as I open my browser, it serves the purpose of informing me about cool/interesting stuff about the culture I actively participate in, and occasionally random stuff about the LHC (which I visited the other day!)

Captch: refrigerate Youspec - WHO IS YOUSPEC, AND WHY DOES HE DESERVE SUCH A CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT?!

Love ZP and Extra Credits, while some of the others tho seem to be employed just for trolling, quite odd considering the strict rules around here (didn't add names because I'm surely getting suspended... again)

Also Critical Miss and Stolen Pixels are always top notch.

Would be fun if the site or forum got an indie game section for the young starter ups to get some attention, this site seems perfect for it yet nothing is happening in that direction.

Well, let's see what I like-

ZP of course, Extra Credits, MovieBob's shows and article, Critical Miss and Stolen Pixels, Miracle of Sound, Unskippable, Feed Dump, the podcasts, I watch all the review videos, Extra Punctuation and Extra Consideration, I like the news team, especially Greg Tito for very indirectly introducing me to something that changed my life, the LRR crew is amazing, and I still can't wait for the next Desert Bus, I like the User Review forum which deserves a lot more traffic than it gets, I like most of the groups I've been invited to, especially the MLP group, bronies are some of the most inviting people in the world.

And I don't like most of the rest of the forums. I think there should be a little pop up with the forum rules before you can post, and a little pop up with a list of repeat threads when you try to make a new thread. That would probably help a bit. I lurked quite a bit over the last few years, and it feels like it keeps getting worse. Probably because of all the new users we're getting who aren't used to a relatively more mature environment.

Fix that. Now [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/miracle-of-sound/3608-Sweet-L-A-A-Song-of-L-A-Noire].

Well, I wouldn't be here if I didn't like the place.

But I am getting rather annoyed by the double standards I keep seeing. How is is okay for Jim Sterling to advocate piracy (even in a satirical setting), but the minute someone condones it in the forums, they get a warning or suspension?

The other thing is annoying forum trends. If fifty people are going to make a "recommend me an anime" thread in a week, why not just put up a goddamned sticky thread with a list of recommendations. And enough with the "am I the only one?" threads.

Finally, the site Reviews are crap compared to the stuff I see in the User reviews section. The only person I can listen to who doesn't seem to be totally biased is Mrs. Arendt. Funk and Tito have their priorities, but I don't trust what they say in their reviews at all.
