Sometimes it's cheaper to buy the game second hand then get the DLC instead of getting a new copy with the DLC installed.

A game that I am willing to buy DLC for, I am most likely going to get new. If i am buying a game secondhand, then I already am assuming that the game is somehow not worth buying full price.. so why would I get DLC?

Well, due to Flamehero1 lack of recent posts, I'd say he died of shame in face of the cold hard facts. In name of the Gamers-who-give-a-shit I declare: good riddance.

Look man it's just very simple. You bought the game second hand. So how can you possibly make demands from the people that designed the game if you didn't contribue with maintaining their work?

You get what you pay for.
I'll second this comment.

Hey guys before I ask my question a bit of backstory.
I have a second hand copy of Mass Effect 2 which means I can't get on to the cerberus network. If i want to get on to it I have to pay 1200 MS points. To be harsh I think this is bullshit. I don't see why I shouldn't get DLC that's free to some people just because I didn't get the game first hand.

Anyway question is what is the most ridiculous DLC you have ever had to pay for. It can be something that wasn't worth the money or something that should have been included in the game or whatever.

Brownie points for anyone who can tell me a way to get a cerberus network code cheaper than 1200 MS point ^-^
Look, as far as I know, this is how that works. That DLC isn't free. If you buy the game new, then you're reward is that you get it for free, because they actually made money from the sale.

If you didn't buy it new, you have to pay for it. This may sound like bullshit, but it isn't, because depending on how much you payed for it used, you still saved money. They're charging a reasonable price for their DLC, and giving it for free to those that bought the game new. Nothing bullshit there, unless I'm misunderstanding it.

Well I didn't think someone by the name of FlameHero would be so sensitive. In that case bad joke on my part. Apologies are demanded, and as such are being presented.

In other front: Thanks for taking the time to realise something important. We are all gamers here. We all want whats best for our media. *Handshake* all right?

I personally hate that i cant buy an entire game at once anymore, i could care less for bonus armour and the like, but if i want to continue the mass effect story i now have to go online and buy an expansion. But that may just be the old in me talking, i just miss being able to go to a store and buy a game, none of this exchange real money for points so you can buy the rest of your game business.

No need to worry. In a way I know how you feel. But i've come to see things diferently. I live in a country with an even greater menace than second-hand titles: piracing.

In Brazil pirate games are almost the rule instead of the exception. But all is starting to change with palladinical effort of gamers in defense of the industry.

Together we make a hell of a diference.

So as like said above: If gamers dont like DLC gamers can stop DLC. But must aproach the problem correctly, and for the right reasons.

edit: as always: sorry for the bad english.

It's amazing how many people don't think this through, such an entitled attitude sometimes.

I've never bought DLC. I don't feel it essential to a game that I play. If it is, then it either should have been a patch, or is minor extortion.

I've never actually purchased a DLC for any game, but the side missions for Mass Effect 2 really tempt me, though.

I want to find out what happens with Liara and the Shadow Broker...

I don't buy DLC. I'm hoping that if enough people just ignore it than it will go away and companies will have to start selling us complete games off the shelf again.
Its easy. Complain, stop downloading DLC, all good and valid. But more importantly: STOP buying second hand games!

Do that and the DLC filosofy dies.
Do you not understand that the developers got paid for that copy when the first person bought it? Once it is in you possession you have the right to sell it at any time you see fit.

If you go to a restaurant and order a steak, do you have a surcharge to give an extra dollar to the rancher who sold the beef to the restaurant? The way you talk, you expect the rancher to get an extra % from the sale of the steak in the restaurant because, even though they have already been paid for that steak they make nothing from the resale of that steak in the restaurant.

Also, buying new won't end DLC. Nothing will end DLC. How many of the million people that bought the MW Map Packs on release day bought their copy new? Probably most of them. It's an easy way to get extra cash for little work, so it will continue.

Ok thanks for apologising. Even though I've been droped a few times as an infant. ^_^

In any case. The developers got paid for that copy. But YOU did not pay (them) for your copy, so one sale less.

Also I did't say you don't have the right to buy second hand (only that I dont think you should)

What you DONT have the right is to buy second handed, and THEN ***** at the developers for charging you for EXTRA content. If you didnt cooperate, if you didnt contribue, then you dont get to complain. Simple as that.

Also: CAPS not meant to scream, just for enfasis.
