I recently invested an unwise amount of money into the kind of machine that would make the population of Mount Olympus weep with envy. It arrives tomorrow. Right, that's done. What I need from you: What should the first game for it be?

If you want to test its technical proficiency, then Crysis 2 is probably the way to go. If you can max it out and get smooth gameplay, then it can handle anything else currently on the market, and what'll come out in the foreseeable future.

Otherwise, just get the kind of game you usually like. The tech won't matter if the game isn't any fun to play.

Metro 2033. Great game that'll test the power of your PC a little.

Orange Box is a certainty, just because it's awesome.

If you've got a mega machine though, Everquest 2 is the one where you can test up to theoretical limits...that is if fracking Sony would put Station back up.

If you want to really put it through its paces then you want whatever the most recent Total War game is, cranked up to the max. All those AI/animation calculations will hammer your CPU, and the graphics will push your GPUs thanks to really awful optimisation.

Crysis is very pretty and gives you a good guess what your new girlfriend can do.

Metro 2033, if you can run that on maxed settings with little to no slow down you can run anything, even Crysis...<.<

@Guy, is that Shogun? I might go with that one, I loved Rome ^_^
Yeah get shogun! It's not as good as Rome but its a massive improvement on Napoleon and Empire in my eyes.

Crysis, Metro2033, Borderlands, or Team Fortress 2.

All of them look very pretty.

EDIT: ooh, Just Cause 2 is also a great buy, that game has so much mindless fun.

Not sure about the survival horror genre. I prefer to face my threats with a big suit of armor and an even bigger gun. Anyone suggesting that I scare easily will be frowned upon.

Do you mind slapping up a parts list?

I'm a nut for these sort of things.

Also, give Just Cause 2 a shot; that game is both cheap and looks great maxed out (especially in 3D).

It's not really horror, it's a shooter with light horror and survival elements, sort of like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.if it took place in a sewer and didn't have RPG elements...

Ah kk, so kinda like Fallout 3, ish? Edit: all i've seen from it is the benchmarking videos on youtube for the GPU and framerates etc.
