Some games I got for my new rig to test it out:

- Crysis 1 and 2. Both very very shiny.
- Metro 2033. Incredibly atmospheric, it only gets more so when you can play it on highest settings.
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2. One big bombastic spectacle in multiplayer.

Theme Hospital.

That was my favorite PC game ever, besides Fallout 1&2.
Ahhhh I remember popping bloated heads with fondness. Shame my CD broke, but I doubt it'll work on Windows 7 anyway.

The orange box is pointless because you can get that on consoles now so there is no point in making this your choice PC game.

Crysis 2 is also a console title and they have pretty much left everything they put into consoles on the pc as well (including mediocre graphics, but even mediocre graphics for a pc enthusiast is eye-poppingly beautiful compared to what console gamers are used to).
Don't buy a game for your ultra expensive pc that can be found on the consoles, you want to have the full PC-GAMING experience, not the console one, that is why you spent so much on a pc.

Crysis 1 is a bit old, don't buy old games because this is a NEW pc, not an old one.
Don't buy any old games, you want to see the full capabilities of your rig.

What you really should get though, is this:
The games that no console can run, the games that no person who plays on the PS3 can experience, the sum of all the beauty that can be done in the world of powerful and superior PC-graphics...

METRO 2033

and
S.T.A.L.K.E.R : CALL OF PRIPYAT

Note, I don't have anything against console games/gamers and I do not value graphics over gameplay, but my eyes tell me what are beautiful and nothing I have seen on consoles even compare to the pc graphics, but console gamers are right, the pc is expensive.

All of my words are said assuming you bought a very powerful high-end rig that can run these games maxed-out, and that you used to play on the Xbox-360 or PS3 or nothing at all and want to see what the fuss is about with PC-Gaming.

I'm not recommending these games for you to use as benchmark tests for your rig, I recommend them because these are genuinely atmospheric and deep, beautiful games that can't be experienced on anything less than a beast of a gaming machine.
Stalker might seem stupid at first, it seemed stupid to me at first too, but just let the atmosphere take you in and you'll be hooked, it's a deep open world that you can free-roam in and is, again, beautiful.

Metro 2033, if you can run that on maxed settings with little to no slow down you can run anything, even Crysis...<.<

Not sure about the survival horror genre. I prefer to face my threats with a big suit of armor and an even bigger gun. Anyone suggesting that I scare easily will be frowned upon.
You get plenty of guns in metro 2033 to fight with, the game isn't like AMNESIA where you don't have weapons.

Planescape: Torment, an RPG with the best story ever to grace the genre.

I've even got a spare copy, if you want it.

That said, find Rollercoaster Tycoon 1. Its the bomb.

I was just trying to get that to run the other day; couldn't get the damn thing to keep stable for more than an hour. I've put more time into that game than I'd like to admit though.
Hmm. Im gonna put it on my new desktop (win7 x64) and see if it still works. May just be your copy. If its an old disk, well yeah. Or if you downloaded it, those are often a shit baguette.

Thinking about the game the other day actually. I played it for 6 years straight. And i lost a few days to it last week too.

@Guy, is that Shogun? I might go with that one, I loved Rome ^_^
Yeah, I think it's Shogun 2. I've not read anything about it yet, but all the other games in the series have been PC killers and I doubt Creative Assembly are going to change their ways now!

Crysis, Metro2033, Borderlands, or Team Fortress 2.

All of them look very pretty.

EDIT: ooh, Just Cause 2 is also a great buy, that game has so much mindless fun.
I could not get used to just cause 2 wth the mouse and keyboard. I had to use the gamepad.

Something that would look beautiful on a new rig, think STALKER.

Or, if you're patient, wait for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
By God the environment in that game looks soooooooooo Goddamn amazing.

I recently invested an unwise amount of money into the kind of machine that would make the population of Mount Olympus weep with envy. It arrives tomorrow. Right, that's done. What I need from you: What should the first game for it be?
Best test for your rig?
Crysis is not that fantastic anymore, and 2 is even less demanding.
Try Cryostasis. My rig can only just run that max everything at 1080x1960.
Way more demanding than Metro 2033 or any of the Crysis's.

Ah kk, so kinda like Fallout 3, ish? Edit: all i've seen from it is the benchmarking videos on youtube for the GPU and framerates etc.
No, it's not open world, doesn't have RPG elements, has a good story and most of all it's very dark and depressing...<.<

>_> sounds like...fun!

Ok sorry, but I couldn't resist.

Should be interesting to check out when my SLi card arrives =D
