Welcome to this new RP that will hopefully last for a long time.
Here you will be playing as a recently deceased character that was brought back to life so it could become... an employee. There you will be instructed to kill individuals that have a contract on them by your new Boss. Why would you do that? You might ask. Well, here is the catch - You're living on borrowed time. If you don't work you won't get any life energy and when you run out you will die permanently. So be careful, do your job and conserve your energy!
.
The Setting
This is your life. The year is 2011 and nothing seems out of the ordinary.

But then it happens. Without warning your mind is surrounded with blackness. Emptiness replaces your thoughts and you can't do anything. It's all gone. You must scream, but your mouth can't move. You can't feel your mouth. You can't feel anything.

But then a voice pierces through this darkness.

"You are dead, friend. Do you want to live again?"

The voice sounds low and husky, like the one of an old man that had smoked too many cigarettes in his life.

You want to scream out. You want to say yes. But you can't talk. You feel the voice pulling away. You want to call him back for your rescue. Then you finally feel something.

It's cold. So damn cold. You open your eyes and see a cigarette. Then you see a man standing over you, examining your body. He wears a grey blazer with a weird insignia on the right sleeve. You try to look at his face, but then you feel his hand moving your head to the side.

"Do you agree to work for me?"

He asks you. You just want to go back. You can't stay in the dark anymore. You accept.
You can feel the rest of your body now. It takes you a few minutes to stand up on your own. You remember your name. You remember what happened.

You should be dead.

The man that saved you stands in front of you. He looks out into the horizon and you can see a trail of smoke coming from his face. You notice he wears a brown fedora hat, grey trousers and brown loafers. His hand moves up and takes the cigarette out of his mouth.

"This is shit", he says and throws the cigarette to the ground. "I gave you four hours. The note inside your pocket tells where you need to be in four hours. Sort out your business and then get there."

The man began walking away from you.

"Dead men tell no tales"

You look at the note. It tells you to be at an apartment downtown in four hours.
.
The Point
You died two hours ago. Submerged in darkness, a voice pulls you out and offers you your life back in exchange for your loyalty. He wants you to work for him.
When you meet the others in an apartment, just like you, the man appears again. You are living on borrowed time. Now you need to earn the time you live in. You will be working for him and accepting contracts ? You will kill people for him.
Now you must follow the contracts to stay alive, since the only thing keeping you alive, "Life Energy", can only be acquired through completing contracts and getting the bonus from your boss. Now go, you don't have time to waste.

.
If you're confused, look at this example sheet for guidance!
Name: David Creedy

Gender: Male

Age: 19

Appearance: David stands at 6 feet. He appears to be very thin and lean, with short brown hair, brown eyes and slightly tanned skin. He usually wears a short sleeved T-shirt and sweatpants alongside black sneakers.

Education: High school Dropout

Occupation: Delivery boy

Biography: Life wasn't very kind to David. The first to be born in a family of now six sons, David had to help his mother support the household. When he was 15 he began working in part time jobs to help his mother. When she became ill and couldn't move, he left his school and began working full time at the age of seventeen. When his mother passed away he was eighteen and barely managed to keep custody on his little brothers. But the burden was too much for David.

He turned to a local loan shark for a loan to pay on the rent for his new crowded apartment. He couldn't afford living in their old house anymore. He would work for the loan shark as a delivery boy, riding a bike or simply running through the town to deliver packages.

One day David had to deliver another package, but had to make a detour to his apartment. His youngest brother was sick, so he had to take care of him. Unaware of the content in the package and the consequences of his actions, David came in late with his delivery. His younger brother had taken the contents of the package and threw them away, believing them to be garbage. When David came in with an empty package, he had to be dealt with.

Personality: David is miserable. Suffering loss after loss, the only thing keeping him up on his feet is the fate of his brothers. He loves all of them very dearly and considers their lives to be more important than his. He is usually quiet and stays hidden as to not attract any unwanted attention.

Cause of Death: The loan sharks that had used David as their delivery boy were sending out sealed doses of drugs and receiving money back from their clients. When David's brother accidently threw away the drugs that were in one of the packages David tried to deliver, the loan sharks decided to investigate. After David had told them that he doesn't know a thing, even after they beat him, they drove to the outskirts of the town and killed him near an empty construction site to eliminate all of the loose ends.

How you said your goodbye: After David had waked up and realized what just happened, he began to run towards his home. He ran all the way through the city and reached his apartment, where his brothers were at. He sat down next to his sick brother and kissed him goodbye. He then took the money that he hid for himself and gave it to his brother, the oldest of them all, to keep and use to pay for anything they need.

He promised him that he will return shortly and that he shouldn't open the door to anyone they don?t know, fearing they might be the loan sharks or child protective services.

It is rather silly but acceptable. You'd have to work extra hard on that sheet, because you won't have as much fun as a character like David would. What would be your desire to stay alive... besides staying alive?
Think about that and come back with (hopefully) a nice character sheet.

Sorry, I'm actually a bit swamped with Rp's atm (That and impending uni). I was just making a reference to a terrible series that played with a similar, albeit less domineering, premise. In which the main character met her fate in the aforementioned situation.

What's the name of that similar series?
By the way, you shouldn't tease people... It hurts.

This seems very interesting but when you mean a death that you did not willingly cause those that mean that the deaths have to be an accident?

As you can see from the example sheet, you can be aware of the danger but not aware of your future demise. For example, David knew that working for these loan sharks was dangerous, but he had no idea that his brother would throw away the contents of the package he was delivering - It wasn't his fault. When he got back and found out it was empty, he had nothing to say.
.
When I wrote 'a death that you did not willingly cause' I meant to say that suicide and anything close to it can't be accepted. For example if you jumped off the top of a building without any safety measures, you committed suicide. But if your bungee rope was torn and you fell to your death - that's acceptable.
.
Bottom line - send it in and if you're not sure PM me the cause of death separately.

I happened to like that terrible series. Although it really was kinda terrible.

In any case, this sounds interesting. What's the deadline for character sheet submissions?

Take your time, but when I see enough characters up the clock will begin to tick.
At the moment there are none, but when we'll reach eight or so I'll begin the countdown. I plan to have 6 characters, or if I'm feeling daring, 8.

Ok, here we go. Remember this is my first time doing this.

Name: Josef K.

Gender: Male

Age: 27

Appearance: Around 6 foot, dull violet eyes, thin enough as to be almost unhealthy, pale white skin, fluffy brown hair kept fairly short. Plasters or blood are always present on his face due to being distracted while shaving; sometimes he forgets to cover the wound. There are always bags under his eyes because of his relentless dedication to his work. Constantly appears in a variety of crumpled, well worn suits, shirts and ties.

Education: Full university experience from a place with a name no one can quite remember.

Occupation: Freelance journalist.

Biography: Mostly ignored by his parents he spent much of his childhood buried in books and quickly became determined to leave the hometown he saw as empty and worthless for a place of civilisation and (he hoped) adventure. As he grew older he found out more about the world and became resigned to the fact he would probably never do anything as exciting as his books described; but he remained determined to leave his hometown which he refused to associate with anything other than brain-dead show-offs and bullies. Knowing that it was his most realistic avenue of escape he flew through school like a spirit, unnoticed by fellow pupils but working hard to receive the high grades he wanted.

He jetted out of his hometown the moment he could, arriving in his state?s capital city, a place of skyscrapers and modernity. Having sold most of his possessions to finance the journey and university he had nothing but the contents of his suitcase and blitzed through a journalism course while working night jobs. In this new home he cast off his old name, the final remnant of his old life. He adopted the moniker of Josef K., from Kafka?s the Trial, hoping it would lend him an air of mystery his crude original name did not have.

He soon became well known among the major papers in the city; getting in depth stories quickly, with a minimum of fuss, on deadline. As his name travelled around the offices of the Herald, the Globe and the Tribunal he had meetings in offices on higher and higher floors, approaching the top of the buildings the closer he comes to his death. The day K. died he was scheduled to have a meeting with the Editor in Chief of the Herald; on the highest floor of the highest building in the city.

Personality: K. does not think about the past, and has no real concerns for the future; he lives moment to moment, story to story. The minute he left his hometown he forgot about everyone in it, when asked about his parents he claims to be an orphan; and every time he is asked about where he comes from he describes a different, fictional town. He is dedicated to his work because it?s the only thing keeping him here.

Cause of death: Digging into the activities of local crime lords turned out to be a bad idea. After several violent run ins with the muscle of the notorious Capaldi family he decided to try something a bit more low key. Investigating the much smaller Grundy family he broke into a dockside warehouse in a nearby coastal town which he believed contained shipments of smuggled cargo. Instead he discovered a man tied to a chair being electrocuted with a car battery. While trying to think of something to say three bullets blew open his chest. Barely conscious, the last thing he remembered was being dumped into the sea.

How you said your goodbye: K. raced to his apartment, soaked from head to foot and covered in his own blood and cleaned up; shaving quickly and covering the new scars. He ditched his journalist gear, grabbed his wallet, phone, cigarettes and lighter and, locking the door behind him, sprinted to the Herald building. After the meeting he checked his watch. He still had plenty of time to reach the address.

Education: Full on university somewhere no one recognises.

Occupation: Freelance journalists.

Biography: Flew through school like a spirit, unnoticed by fellow pupils but receiving above average grades. Then he decided to investigate the local gang bosses.

While trying to think of something to say three bullets blow open his chest. Barely conscious, the last thing he remembers is being dumped into a river.

How you said your goodbye: K. raced home to change into a (still crumpled) suit with less bullet holes, hastily shaved his face, applying plasters to his cuts and throwing all the journalism related gear in his pockets into a bin. He grabbed his wallet, phone, cigarettes and lighter and locking the door behind him raced to get a stiff drink. He arrived at the address on the note early, and settled into a chair to sleep until the appointed time.
.
Disowning his parents and hometown sounds really harsh. Any traumatic experiences to justify that or is your character a misanthrope?
Your sheet seems hastily written. Take your time, rewrite it a few times till it sounds right. Add in proper names so that it'll be a better read. We will wait for the others to post their characters and then I will decide.
.
I will inform you when I will make my decision. If you will edit the sheet you need to inform me.

Name: Dr. Adrian Hardy

Gender: Male

Age: 34

Appearance: Adrian is a slight man with very little height to work with, coming in at just under 5?6?. His dirty blonde hair is long and unkempt, complementing his deep blue eyes that are usually hidden behind the thick black frames of his horn-rimmed glasses. Since he spends most of his time in the field, he opts for comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in. His tennis shoes are worn and holy, his blue jeans are always a little dirty, and his tee-shirt is always a little cheap and a little small on him.

Education: Doctorate (Geologic Sciences and Research)

Occupation: University Professor/Researcher

Biography: Adrian was born to a long line of oil tycoons who held a stranglehold over the energy market. His entire childhood was extremely privileged and he was sent to a private school for his elementary and secondary education. All the while, he learned about the wonders that the planet had to offer from talking to his mother about the business that his father had himself deeply entrenched in. He developed an intense interest in the processes that formed the earth we walk over every day.

As he moved on to university, Adrian channeled his passion for rocks into his studies. However, the more time that he spent away from home, the more he realized that business practices of his family were questionable at best. This led to a heated confrontation with his father than ended with him cut off from the family fortune entirely.

Through the dark times, he was able to emerge from the ashes through hard work and dedication. Adrian was finally able to attain his dream life: he had a job teaching geology to attentive students, he was able to spend a great deal of time in the field mapping the topography of the surrounding countryside, and he had a wonderful wife and daughter waiting at home for him. Everything had finally come together for Adrian.

Personality: Adrian is very relaxed and playfully sarcastic which has helped him build a positive reputation amongst his peers and his students. He tends to take life?s problems in stride and works to find the best solution in a terrible situation.

However, if Adrian adopts a cause he cannot be swayed from it. He will butt heads with anyone who stands against him.

Cause of Death: Adrian was in the field mapping the area as he always had done hundreds of times before. However, today he had gone out after a rain the previous evening. The ground was slick and unstable as he walked across it.

His colleagues who had joined him that day could only stand in stunned silence as he slid down the slippery slope over the edge of the cliff into the raging river far below.

How you said your goodbye: Adrian leapt at the chance to say one last goodbye to his wife and daughter. He arrived shortly after she had received the news of his unfortunate fall. Tiffany was trying to comfort their daughter and explain why daddy wasn?t going to be coming home when he walked in the door. He told them that he was nothing more than a ghost who just desired a little more time with his family before stepping into his afterlife.

For two hours they set his affairs in order and just enjoyed the company while they still could. The time for him to leave came far too soon. He said his goodbyes and walked out the door, tears streaming quietly from his eyes. He did not dare turn around to see their faces as he walked off into the darkness.

He wanted their last memory of him to be of a smile.

Yeah, I'm depressed now.

Also, this sheet is posted as my response to our earlier message.

I seemed to be all nice and dandy at first, but I have a few questions.
Huge gap between confronting your father and getting married, finding a proper job, etc. ... Does that mean that nothing important happened there?
He's a teacher, and while having a... trip outside? with his students, he fell down a cliff. Right. Just correct me if I got it wrong. Looks good so far.
What disturbed me so much is that you achieved closure with your family in two hours. And you said you were a ghost. A ghost.
Imagine that a loved one had died, and an hour afterwards he comes in to your house. The first thing you do is hug him and what not, then you ask him how he survived. It just seems off, but if you do want to keep it that way, did he really get over the prospect of a life with his family in two hours?
Plus, I'm having a hard time pinning an ability to his personality&Bio, but we'll talk about that in PM once I get everything settled.

So here we go.

Name: Spencer T. Kane

Gender: Male

Age: 18

Appearance: 5,8 ft tall, average build, green eyes, brown hair, light skin, slight stubble. Spencer's wardrobe contains mostly jeans, t-shirts, hoodies and a few pieces of other non-descript clothing, which is why he doesn't really stand out in a crowd.

Education: With his high school education almost finished, he had high hopes of going to med school. Obviously, that didn't work out.

Occupation: High schooler. Part-time library assistant.

Biography: Grew up in a regular family with his parents and sister. Finished middle school and cut all contact with almost everyone from his former class, claiming he didn't have anything in common with them. He found more like-minded individuals in high school, but still remained a bit distant.

Personality: Raised to value independency, but knows not to bite off more than he can chew. Doesn't dislike people, although he manages to find flaws in a lot of them. A bit persnickety, he plans everything to the last detail and becomes prone to panic in case something goes wrong. Optimistic. Paranoid, keeps his thoughts to himself. He broke his spare key to the library a long time ago, so he had to get some experience in finding alternate ways to get to places out of reach to other people. Sometimes a bit moody, he can go from serious to not-so-serious in a matter of seconds.

Cause of Death: Working late at night at the library, he was doing inventory on a public computer when he heard a noise. The next morning he was found dead under a collapsed bookcase. The news called it an accident, but Spencer could swear it wasn't. His body was found by the police after a passer-by reported loud noises coming from the library. Police arrived at the scene and found Spencer dead, and promptly informed his closest family.

How you said your goodbye: Dead around 11 PM, he used the first minutes of the four hours to send a text message from his phone to Melanie (his sister) and a friend, telling them they "shouldn't believe tomorrow's news", but uncertain if he'd be able to contact them ever again. He grabbed his backpack from the library, containing a wallet, a bus pass, and his laptop and left for the apartment early.
