It is not uncommon in everyday life to see people wearing rings. The type of ring and its location on a particular finger can mean different things, or so I'm told.
I try to indulge my curiousity, but unfortunately the internet doesn't seem to want to give me a clear explanation so I assume then that the meanings (if any) of wearing rings can differ among world regions.

The question here is, what are the meaning(s) of wearing a ring on (any) finger from where you live?

Also, doesn't anyone here wear any rings and why?

(Here in the U.S. the left "ring" finger signifies married and I heard the right ring finger signifies engaged.)

Well, if you like something, you put a ring on it.

Hasn't Beyonce already told us this?

In Australia the left ring finger with a ring on it represents both the engagement and also the marriage, so people know they're taken.
But I swear pinky finger rings represent you are a pimp, just sayin'.
Does anyone where thumb rings anymore?

Thumb rings are a sign of strength or leadership, some such like that anyway. Interestingly enough, I found that out a year after I started wearing my two rings on my thumbs.

Sorry bro, I thought this might be relevant to "minus ring finger equals". I'm a classically trained crowd assassin.

Whatever, businesstiem. Yeah, I've always thought jewelery was stupid and gaudy. Simple Earrings or a single necklace look fine, but overdoing it always looks lame to me. I see girls with four rings on one hand and I asked a girl in my Speech class why this happens, to see if this was an effort to ward off unwanted male attention. She said that wasn't it, she just wanted to decorate herself.

Rings to me signify wealth and marriage.

Also some people use rings for back-hand slapping people

It was originally meant to keep the woman from using magic since the ring finger was the one it came out of.

I'm pretty clueless about rings myself, but the arrangement of rings on girls' fingers and what kind of rings they are usually one way in which I determine whether or not i think they're straight, gay or bi.

I'm usually right.

Grr. Last post got eaten by forum fail.

I can't really wear rings. My fingers are pretty thin and my knuckles are noticeably wider than them. So anything that fits behind my knuckle moves around a lot and is generally irritating.

I rarely wear any kind of adornment, usually a watch when I'm running so I can keep track of splits, or time in general.

I live in the US so US rules apply.

However, in the borough I live in, if you were a ring (especially one with a stud of some kind), and are a bigger guy, you're thought of as dirty. If you wear a band type ring and are big, people ask if you're married first, then say you're dirty.

if you keep your ring on in a fight, you've forfeited all rights to fairness, and the person you're fighting is allowed to invoke any technique they desire to defeat you. Having others join them, guns, whatever. I watched in one instance where a kid refused to remove his ring, so the kid he fought (my friend), pulled a knife.

Basically, the ring labels you a dirty pussy.

That's terrible! D: Poor thing, no rings for you!

Rings... Well, its jewelry. One should wear what's flattering. Wearing a ring may mean something, but its like wearing merchandise from some vacation spot. It may mean that you love San Francisco and want to show your pride, or it could mean someone got you a cool hoodie.

Also, its not safe to assume that someone's married because of a ring on their left ring finger. Rings stay on my left hand better, for example, and I have a family diamond ring that I like wearing to more formal occasions. The biggest hint is that its not a wedding set. If you see a ring where a diamond is held above the band, and its on the left hand, then you have a much safer bet.

I have the same problem, however I'm not really interested in wearing any jewelery anyways, so I guess I don't mind so much.

In Soviet Russia, Ring wear you!
The Soviet Union was disbanded 20 years ago..
Also, I should think that mocking Russia in the direction of someone who may or may not be Russian, and with whom you are not acquainted, might be in bad taste....

I'm 99.99% certain the fellow is not going to be offended in the slightest, I'm just sick of that same tired joke...

Engineers wear iron rings on their pinky finger. They are the engineer equivalent of a stethoscope.

Funnily enough, it's been about a year since I got these rings... Are you a wizard?
