I find it mildly sad that people are listing metal, heavy metal, and punk-rock/pop-punk bands as "rock".

Please specify what you mean by rock. Rock and Roll? (I.E. Clapton?) Hard Rock? (I.E. AC/DC) Anything under the broad title of rock, many of which do not deserve to share a genre with Hendrix? (*insert many bands here*)

Rock has sort of mutated into like 40 subgenres so, Yeah I'd say rock is dead, but at least it has plenty of illigitemite(sp?) children.

I keep hearing from my parents and a lot of poeple that rock music is dead and that no one plays it anymore. In my opinion, that's total crap. Rock is still alieve just as it ever was. It's not exactly done well on the radio, but anywhere else, it still works.

So I want to know, what are some artists out right now that are proving my theory that rock is still alive. My only requirement is that they have to have been created in the 2000s or late 90s(1995-1999)

Some artists I can name off the top of my head are Queens of the Stone Age, Priestess, and Slipknot(thier first official album was 1999, so they count). What can you guys think of?

After thinking for about 30 seconds, I've decided to extend the requirements from "1995 to now" to "has released any material(albums, singles, that kind of stuff)in the 2000s" This should get bands that are older than the requirements but still ass-kicking on the list.
Queens of the Stone Age are a great example, they're not heavy metal, they're not emo, they're simply rock.

Some others that I'll cite are:

Modest Mouse, Silver Sun Pick-ups, Kings of Leon, White Stripes/Raconteurs, Evanescence, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Corrosion of Conformity, the Strokes, and Clutch.

The media loves to put things into categories, and I think that's certainly contributed to the notion that rock is dying or dead.

"Rock and roll will never die"

Rock is no longer classic rock. Classic rock is dead, what we have now is infused rock with metal, or pop.

Your list is good, but I would include foo fighters, and a few canadian bands such as matthew good and sam roberts.
I saw Sam Roberts back in October. I can honestly say that it was the best concert I've ever seen.

Rock has grown to be more "indie" and "alternative"

Dredg is an awesome group.

I listen to a lot of post-rock which isn't really rock per-se, but it uses rock instrumentation.

Yeah, I saw them about 3 weeks ago in a tiny venue (like 150 people) ant it was one of the high points of my life so far.

Sorry buddy but metallica started in the eighties so do they really count? I wanna add Trapt, I like them, and Paramore, there more for chicks but I still dig her vibes.
