Luke was just whiny as fuck in Episode IV. This protag looks like a classic punk. I think it could definitely work. Disney's shown they know how to make compelling Star Wars characters so far, so I have faith they'll make her a good character.
Remember how the trailers for Episode 7 didn't show Finn being a complete goofball like he was in the film?

It's likely that this main character seems like a typical rebellious badass just because the scenes where she behaves like that are the most "trailer-y". Though considering how films like The Hunger Games and Divergent have such forgettable "badass" female protagonists, I have my concerns that she'll end up with no personality.

We can't be certain yet so for now I'm going to be optimistic.

I'm sick to death of the discussion around Star Wars at this point. It's been a perfect storm of SJW/MRA hysteria, soul-crushingly pathetic nostalgia, and cynical marketing-sold-as-culture writ large.

That said, I'm actually on board for this. I even thought the alarm noise was cool. Don't let me down, Forest.

As someone who's not a fan of Star Wars, I really liked this trailer, even though I have no idea what's going on. Somehow the lack of dudes wielding laser swords makes it a lot better imo. Except, now there's another dude... with a stick... surrounded by other dudes... with laser guns. What?

Anyway, since I don't know anything about SW, I can just watch it like it's some action movie in space.

I figured Mendelsohn is playing Tarkin, but who knows. He kinda looks like a younger version of him. I would think though, if he is in the base when the plans are stolen, Vader would force FUBAR him for failing, so maybe he isn't Tarkin.

Who is Whittaker supposed to be? Seems random to me, just a hermit(?) or rogue trooper(?) that gives out wisdom.

By the time of Rouge One, Tarkin is The Grand Moff, which makes him the second most powerful person in the galaxy. He answers to exactly one person, and it's the same one Vader is subordinate to.

He's armored, which almost certainly means he's a bounty hunter.

Does the main character strike anyone else as an insufferable brat?
Her dialogue reminds me of a 15 year old who's about the slam the door shut on her mom, who totally doesn't get it.

Oh I didn't know that. Well, then he is safe...for now.

I thought about that, but Whittaker might be the most unintimidating bounty hunter I have ever seen, haha. Will reserve my judgement until I see him in action, they could give him some good scenes.

First thought: along with Rebels, basically the new guard is canonizing what parts of Star Wars D6 hadn't yet been canonized.

Second thought: along with Rebels, this looks like a D6 campaign. Groovy.

Third thought: that trailer looks like an easy-mode, total care bear, "first-time-RP'ing ever" first game session of a Star Wars D6 campaign.

Star Wars D6 was hardcore shit, yo.
