The Xbox 360 is more of a casual gaming system, see Halo 3 and Gears of War. RPG's aren't readily associated with Microsoft or the Xbox 360, or not as much as they are with Nintendo and the like. The case is the same with Sony. Now I'm not saying there will never be, or aren't any RPG's for the Xbox 360 (let me stop for a second --- now let me say now that I mean commercially released and/or advertised RPG's; every game system has obscure types of every game, just not it's main function), but RPG's don't extend to the main demographic of Xbox 360. Nintendo caters to this type of gamer though, as Sony tends to gravitate towards...well, I'm not exactly sure. But I'll go with Action/Action Adventure. I'm not sure of this, I'm just saying I have a lot of PS2 Action/Adventure games, and I've seen many released for the PS3. That's why there are three different consoles, they cater to different audiences. So, in conclusion, RPG's could be commercially released on the Xbox 360...just not any time in the next century.

*cough* Mass Effect *cough*

Joe, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. If you mean MMOs, then the only one on the 360 that I'm aware of is Final Fantasy XI. If you mean single player RPGS, then there are a few to choose from, although some are better than others.

the pickings are slim for 360 RPGs, though a few great titles are out; namely mass effect and oblivion, fallout is also due out in the fall, and will probably be released on the 360.

So far we have Mass Effect, Oblivion, Eternal Sonata and a few others that slip my mind. Coming up are Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean 4 and Fable 2.

No RPGs on 360? Heh.

@Zombie_King: I think I'd take issue with...your words. Pretty much all of them. Naming two popular games does not prove a system is for 'casual' gamers, especially if you just choose to ignore the RPGs on the 360 because it doesn't support your argument.

@JOE: I don't know what you're asking, but I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Lost Odyssey. 'Tis a marvelous wee gem. There's Blue Dragon and Enchanted Arms, although Lost Odyssey is better than both combined. There's Mass Effect and Oblivion, which are pretty big titles by anyone's standards. Eternal Sonata is quite a likeable underdog, and there's Fable 2 on the horizon, with Infinite Undiscovery rather less excitingly also on the horizon.

There's pickings to be had, even if they're not excessively rich.

I already checked Gamespot for some of these games if not all, but I just want to know whitch one you guys most prefer to play? Just keep giving me names for the rest of this week and I'll see if I cand add them up to see whitch one is more adored than the other. I am also aware that Mass Effect is good, but Im also looking foward to playing a Medevil RPG/MMORPG.

Weel, most of the RPG's you've heard about for the 360 are definitely worth your while in my opinion. Just make sure you avoid Dark Messiah at all costs, and you should be fine.

Since you're in the mood to get medieval on the local peasants, you'd want to go with Oblivion. You are going to get oodles of gameplay out of that. Oodles.

No, the Nintendo Wii is for casual gamers, the XBox 360 is for fans of shooters and sports games, and the PS3 is for those blindly loyal to Sony. The Playstation 2 is the king of the RPG genre with about twice as many role-playing titles as all of generation 7 combined.

To my knowledge, the only Xbox 360 RPG game with Live components is FFXI. That is all.

Surely the king of the RPG genre is the Snes?

Fable 2 will have CO-Op online play, you can invite a friend to your world, and they can invite you to theirs.

But yur going to have to wait to octber something or other before it comes out.

The Xbox actually has more RPGs released and announced than any other home console this generation (the next big platform for RPGs is the DS, witness Dragon Quest IX).

So far to choose from:

Oblivion
Mass Effect
Enchanted Arms
Eternal Sonata
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Phantasy Star Universe
Final Fantasy XI

Upcoming this year:

Tales of Vesperia
Infinite Undiscovery
Fallout 3
The Last Remnant

And in 2009:

Star Ocean 4.

It depends which breed of RPG you prefer, if you prefer western style RPGs, then Mass Effect and Oblivion are a good place to start, if you prefer Japanese style, then Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata.

I'm just saying the PS2 has literally hundreds of RPGs, and systems like the PS3 are lucky to have 10 in the genre. But in terms of quality over quantity, I agree that the Super Nintendo deserves the title - Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI are both considered the greatest Role-Playing Game of all time, and they were both for the SNES.

Stike that one from your list. Now. I can't think of a worse game on the Xbox. I haven't gotten past the first level after tutorial, mainly because I had had enough after I died for no reason the second time around.

You could also consider the backwards compatability to keep you going til some of the better releases make it out. Kotor 1 is a gem of a game, Kotor 2 isn't as good and has a terrible ending, but its still RPGtastic if your into Jedi's and smacking people in the chops with lightsabers. There's bound to be others, but my knowledge of Xbox RPG's is a bit limited.

Oh, and king of the systems for RPGS? PC surely

Get Mass Effect for Sci-fi RPGing and Oblivion for Medieval RPGing. Especially Oblivion will keep you hooked long enough to not need a lot of other games.

Also, on Live Arcade:

Penny Arcade Adventures [http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/p/pennyarcadexboxlivearcade/default.htm] is a JRPG, and good, though only 8-10 hours long.
Band of Bugs [http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/b/bandofbugsxboxlivearcade/default.htm] is a turn-based strategy RPG.

I'd kill a man for Eternal Sonata or Tales of Vesperia. Hopefully it's not gonna be like Legendia, though.
