So Ron Howard is going to be bringing Stephen King's magnum opus "The Dark Tower" to life. It will be spread out like this:

First film will be released immediately followed by a t.v. series to fill in the gap between the first and second film. Then the second film immediately followed by the next season on t.v. to fill in the gap between the second and third film, then the third film.

I'm loving this concept, it could revolutionize the film and t.v. industry and bring about the potential of seeing epic stories like this more often on film without having to leave out tons of material. What are your opinions about this?

the point of the journey is the journey itself. right from the beginning you could tell it would end the way it did.

Lol, no he's the guy who directed "A Beautiful Mind" and "The DaVinci Code". You know, Opie Taylor from the Andy Griffith show and Richie from "Happy Days".

Personally, I thought the ending was quite apropos, I can't see it ending any other way.

Indeed, it was sort of like a Greek tragedy. By no means was it the best ending, but it wasn't the worst...

If it actually follows the books, the first movie would be awesome. But I honestly think that's about the only part of it that's actually filmable. TV/Movie adaptions of Kings work usually fall down on expanding the characters themselves, something I think King does wonderfully well but which adaptions either don't have time to do, or just don't succeed at. In my opinion, the beauty of the first book was the fact that no effort was made to get you to sympathize with the gunslinger - he's not a likeable character, not a modern day hero that can do no wrong, he's a relic of the past and does what he has to do to survive, and makes his own peace with his actions.

Book 1 is an interesting story in and of itself, clearly heavily influenced by westerns and with only the occasional flashback, certainly it has some unusual events but nothing like the dreams/split personalities/telepathy/parallel universe that occur later in the books. The words 'unfilmable mess' spring to mind. I think to make it watchable, you'd have to dumb it down so much no fan of the books would actually want to watch it.

I'm a bit confused how splitting it between films and tv series would work to be honest, do you know ay more about where the cut offs would be? Is film 1 book 1, or just 90 minutes of it, then the rest in the tv series?

I like movies based off King books, though I find his books terribly boring. I like movies done by Ron Howard, though none of them I would consider favorites. This really could go either way. It is a good story, with a good director, but it takes more than just those two things to make a good movie. I think the best part of this whole equation so far is the friends Howard can bring to the table.

At long last it's out of 'Movie Purgatory!'

I've been waiting for this since my early childhood!

Can't wait to hear Roland scowl "at least I jack off left-handed" after having his right hand mangled by the Lobstrosities! ^.^

Sweet Cow Vampire! That sounds fantastic :D
As long has they don't tone down the horror and get actors that can really...Really show feelings, like the inner strugles that The Gunslinger have at some points in the novel´.. it will be great.

Yeah man, it's 50\50 with most people, and you certainly have the right to that opinion. Can't please all the people all the time, lol.

Not sure yet, it's still very early in the process so they may not have released that info yet.

That alone is worth a try. This could be huge.
