Having long considered his options, Thekt reconsidered his position.

"I was thinking. This portal business. Maybe...Maybe we should go there. O.k. so it may not be conventional, but let's see where it takes us. I for one shall overcome my fear, who's with me?"

see what I did there? ;)

Now your talkin! Wooooohooo!

Authoros nodded his head at thekt approvingly, then looked on at the others expectantly, but with also quite scornful impatience. He was beginning to bore of their indecisive ways.

It took Kris a while to realise that his random hacking was pointless. By that time, he was exhausted, and slumped backwards, barely having the energy to stand. Still, he thought as the others looked at him, at least now he could honestly claim to be the 'warrior who has slaughtered countless foes' he had pretended to be in his youth.

As he took deep breaths of air he half walked, half crawled to the fountain, taking several deep gulps of the water once he got there. He picked up his staff left lying on the ground where Morbidus stood, and turned to Thekt.

'What were the options again? I couldn't quite hear them over the screams of agony coming from my foes.' He smiled slightly as he spoke.

Thekt repeated the choices, adding in the ones offered by the others. Kris quickly mulled them over his head. 'Well, I'd rather not risk the portals, if you don't mind. I've never trusted something that can make the very fibre of my being magically disassemble in one place and reassemble in another. I shudder to imagine what would would happen if I were not put back together correctly.'

Authoros seemed unhappy with Kris' logic, and turned away from him with a 'Bah!' as he continued. '..still, if the others are prepared to give it a go, then I shall do as well. One for all, and so on. Besides, there's no better way to conquer your fears then to confront them.' Kris realised he was leaning a little too heavily on his staff. 'Just... give us a few minutes to rest first. I'm sure the others could do with a break. I'm fine though. Perfectly fine.'

Alright does this mean we wait for the others to reconsider or make their minds up, or do we set off right now? Oh by the way, Congratulations!

As morbidus considered the options he finally decides.
"i wouldn't mind this madness place, bound to be more exiting than elves..."

Kris looked at the others. 'Well, let's figure out which one's we can discount. We'll avoid the House of the Elves, since neither Krolk nor I would be particularly welcome there.' The others looked at him puzzlingly. 'More of my youthful antics.' He smiled at the mention. 'As for the other options, they all seem full of peril, and I suspect we've had our fill of that for the time being. The Realm of Madness doesn't seem particularly appealing either. There are many things that can drive a man mad, and for all my strength, I don't think I'm strong enough to endure that.' He sighed. 'Which leaves the portals.'

Cheers, El Chicken. Never had a game last this long. Exciting, isn't it? And I think you can insist we go to the portals, in that forceful sort of way that your character does oh so well. I'm relatively certain we'll follow.

This is great! Congrats on such a great RP, Darth Marsden. Oh, and a cookie for whoever can tell me where the song came from.

"Well, Portals it is then!" said Thekt, making for the edge of the clearing. "Only half an hour until the edge of this forest, and then Authoros can guide us to the Portals." He dissapeared into the dark wood, mumbling a tune to himself:

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Hubbin and Stubbin plod along behind the mumbling dwarf. "Does he always have to sing?" Hubbin mutters dowerly. "That's gonna get old real fast." He fingers his club at his belt.

"Now now brother, who are we to criticize someone's singing voice." Stubbin pipes in, "We couldn't sing to save our lives." Hubbin lets go of his club and continues plodding while trying to ignore the irritating tune.

IIRC, there's still Zombies on the edge of the clearing. Let's not be too hasty, eh?
And your song's from The Lord of the Rings. Cookie!
Kris smiled as he listed to Hubbin and Stubbin argue. Wondering how they hadn't killed each other yet, he looked over to Authoros. 'Well, it looks like we're going with your path. If you'd care to show us the way...'

Judging by the response we skip battle then..

Authoros and the others made their way out of the forest, hoping to leave behind the maddening evil lurking within behind. The group encountered a stray zombie quite often, but they were no threat on their own and were easily slain. After the group arrived triumphant at the edge of the forest, Authoros led them through a series of caverns and tunnels until reaching a large basin surrounded by huge cliffs.

The group took in their surroundings, but Authoros was in no mood to wait and strode onwards with the group in tow. Authoros abruptly stopped in what would seem the center of the area, and recited a verse in an incomprehensible and chanting tone. After he had completed this string of words, a gigantic obelisk of glowing obsidian and a conspicuous structure of decaying stone erupted from the earth before them and the resulting quake forced the group to fall head over heels onto the earth below.

After a while of recovering their senses, the astounded group slowly got to their feet then stared in awe upon the ancient structure that had just appeared and the mysterious, imposing doorway which was only a few paces in front of them though they could not see what was hidden inside..

Im going to give you guys a moment to think and talk to eachother about what you are going to do, You can have your guys go in if you want and describe whats inside but stay close to the entrance (meaning none of the portals are there), and no enemies yet either please. If there is a problem, please say and sorry if im being a bit unpleasant but i dont want anyone diving into the plot of these ruins just yet..

Feeling adventurous Hubbin and Stubbin rose from the ground and pushed open the doors to look inside, which they quickly discovered was a horrible mistake. The Room beyond is composed entirely of regular octogons connected to other regular octogons on every side, yet the floor is level. In addition a much more sublte yet equally disturbing aspect of the room is that it is half an inch larger in every direction than should be possible judging from the outside of the structure. Discounting this astounding breach of physics, geomotry and reality in general the room is really not all that bad. Granted trying to wrap ones head around the alien geomotry is liable to give you a blinding headache but it's all a matter of perspective.

The octogonal tiles glow with an eldritch black light (which by the way is also impossible) and outline the dimensions of the room in shadow deeper than any earthly hue. All in all a routine example of Eldritch architechture.

"Best watch out for Eldritch abominations brother." Stubbin winces at a triangular panel with angles adding up to 970 degrees. "I despise the outer planes." Hubbin rubs his head at the blinding headache he had achieved by trying to understand an Eldritch flower arrangement.

Since you let me describe your portal area I decided to take a page from Lovecraft and we are now transversing the Outer Planes. Denizens of the Outer Planes include Squid Monstrosities, Lurking Horros, Eldritch Abominations, Things Too Terrible for Man to Know, and all of manner of creatures that are biologically impossible.

Most denizens of the Outer Planes have a larger than average portion of Squid in their genetic makeup. Beware of tentacles.

The weird room description is loosely based on some Cthulhu mythos temple I can't remember at the moment combined with a house from one of his stories. It's a common feature of Alien Geomotry to find shapes that aren't possible.

The rest of the group are quick to follow and they assemble in the strange chamber. Suddenly a ghostly visage appears in the middle of the room, which lights the chamber up with a strange blue glow as the light shines brightly from the creatures eyes. The strange apparition folded its arms over its chest 'Fear not strange creatures.. I mean no harm.' it said in a echoing monotone.

The creature had started reciting an odd chant and then the room seemed to dim significantly and the impossible shapes began to glow incessantly before a swirling portal materialized in front of the group, its very existence making them feel oppressed. 'Enter.'the creature demanded immediatlely after the mysterious proceedings, even though it was no longer visible. There didnt seem much choice either for the door linking them to the way out had now disintegrated.

Authoros stepped towards the portal impatiently, and soon after he had vanished as the portal swallowed him up leaving no trace of him and his companions were soon to follow.. The world seemed to disintegrate before them and everything vanished in an explosion of colour and light, then everything faded to complete darkness.

The only thing that could be seen was a robed figure wielding a scythe. The creature's face could not be seen, however his hands could and they were completely skinless, showing only bone and they were tightly grasping onto the scythe. The being sensed the groups anxiety and suddenly announced 'I am the avatar of time and death.' its voice was deep and the being spoke slowy, it echoed loudly throughout the dimension they had become trapped in.

'Fear not travellers, you have braved much and therefore i ask of you to slay one of the most ancient and powerful monstrosities in the Outer Planes. You will be able to know what it is, when you gaze upon it.' His voice suddenly fades away as does what you previously saw..

You have arrived in the outer planes, you must slay the beast for the avatar of time and death, wicked eh?

Thekt was growing more worried by the second, his breathing becoming faster. His disdain for all types of magickery-pokery was beginning to cloud his thoughts, and this strange dimension, where nothing was as it seems, was starting to worry him. For once in his life, he couldn't simply bash his way out of this predicament.

"Come on, you translucent prick, do we go through that thing or what?"

Don't worry about it, I was referring to the ghostly apparition, not you, and the feeling of anger was generated because Thekt was scared, not because I'm frustrated :)

Krolk guessed something had gone wrong when instead of reappearing in the physical world he was faced with complete blackness and a spooky, Death-like figure. Luckily Gnolls were firm believers in reincarnation so Death did not quite have the same terrifying aspect to him; somebody inevitably ate or scavenged your physical body when you died, why shouldn't they subsume your consciousness at the same time?

He looked down and realized that despite the lack of light he could see his and Rhino's bodies against the shadow. This realm obviously didn't follow the same physical laws as the regular universe as they had changed from their usual appearances. Both Gnoll and Cow had lost all colour; their forms were mapped out by different shades of white and grey along with patches of black that blended with the general darkness. They also seemed to have become paper thin or had maybe lost their breadth entirely. Krolk lifted up his hand to examine it's unnatural thinness and saw something was printed on it in black script - he squinted closer - "Made in Guernica" it said.

"Too strange", he said in a small, frightened voice, "I knew that Demon had something up his sleeve"

Kudos, CC. And thanks for my cookie, it was yummy. Nom nom.
Kris looked around at the strange lack of colour and muttered to himself. 'Should have taken my chances with the Elves...' He drew his sword and held it defensively.

Turning to Authoros, he took on a slightly panicked tone. 'What now, Authoros? This is your domain - kindly guide us through it'.

Authoros walks through the domain with the group in tow, and suddenly the colourless domain fades into a more dark and evil landscape.. The outer planes is now visible to all, monstrosities too horrifying to behold stalk the blackened wasteland, deformed plants miraculously grow in the rotten earth and huge bones and spikes jutt out of the ground in an unnatural fashion. It was like staring into the depths of hell...
