Male almost all the time, but in things like ME2, where the male voices are just SO atrocious, I choose female after the first run through.

Male to begin with to attempt to reflect my personality onto the character. Female on a second run through and usually do the exact opposite to my first character

depends on class an the way I'm feeling that day. Warriar=90% male, mage = 90% female, rogue =50/50. unless it affects my stats, then i go for whatever gives the best bonuses.

any sex is good sex
*tips hat*

but of course I prefer male
being one myself
i only usually play as female if it affects how people respond to you or makes the game any different

Both if the story is good enough to go again otherwise just a flip of the coin really.
I have to agree. But otherwise...I think I go through phases of playing males first then females first. Either that or I go with what I think would be fun.

It depends a lot of the character designs. Which ones I like more, and if I have played the game before.

Or if it affects the gameplay somehow.

But I'd prefer female (being a one myself), but I have often played males too .
If it's a group, it's nice to have both.

I always play like me on the first run through. So male, sneaky, looking vaguely like me.

Then if I feel like it later, I'll play female.

Whatever.

In Fallout 3 I was a girl for the extra 10% damage against all males. In a sausagefest like that game, it helped a ton.

In New Vegas, they have a perk for 10% against males even when you are a dude.

In Oblivion, it depends on the class.

In Mass Effect, female. Because the male Shepard has a terrible VO.

I go with a coin toss if the male/female is just a skin swap.

If there are actual ability differences I'll go with the male first, unless the female voice acting (Mass Effect 2) is superior. Later I'll play the one I missed out just to see if there were any different options.

I always go for intelligence not strengh.I absoulutly hate to encounter something i can´t lockpick, hack or talk my way out of. Males may be fysical stronger and tend to have abillities that reacts with that.
But since im not after that i tend to go with females because they usually have some special trait, abillity, perk that gives them bonusses in incounters with men.

i can´t spell english for shit, don´t bother pointing it out.

I find it depends on the game. Generally I go with my gender (male). But for example I find a chick is more fun in Fallout 3 but then I have a feeling I'll go with male in New Vegas. In WoW (haven't played for a long time now...) I started with male characters but I was a female undead rogue for a long time, but after that played male again it was just a fun switch up. Usually if a game is worth a couple playthroughs I'll do both.

Depends on the art and models. If its more anime style or has sexy females then probably females. If everyone looks fairly ugly then probably a guy. Though I rarely do play a game thats so horse ugly that it doesn't matter to me which sex I play

Mostly female in Singleplayer RPGs, male in MMOs.
There's something really creepy about playing a female character in a MMORPG and getting "hit on" by nerds. It's kinda fun to play along for a bit, but after some time it gets really disturbing.
Especially since I'm male myself.
