Can anyone suggest a recent RPG (not a JRPG or Hack 'n' Slash affair) that isn't made by one of these three? I've just realised I genuinely can't think of any besides The Witcher, and I'd vaguely like one to play.

Demon's Souls on the PS3, maybe? I didn't play it, but you may like it.
Demon's Souls is actually Japanese although it doesn't play that way. It's made by ATLUS.

And truthfully if you want:
~ An Western made RPG
~ On this generation of consoles
~ Not made by the biggest makers of games with the above criteria

...that is going to be tricky.

Normally I'd go with Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Fallout, or Dragon Age, but you say nay, so I'll look on Gamefly and such and answer there in a second.

Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, Sacred 2. Fable might have counted as Fable 1, but the other two I wouldn't even say have RPG elements. European developers are the ones I'm thinking of.

I don't MIND those games (I've played and liked them all), I just came to the realisation that every western RPG ever had been made by them and wanted to broaden my horizons somewhat.

Recent WRPG not developed by Obsidian, BioWare, CD Projekt or Bethesda?

Good luck.

[sub]Demon's Souls is a JRPG. Remember, JRPG isn't a genre.[/sub]

I don't own an Xbox though :(
I believe the first 2 games are on PC, and I know Fable 3 is coming to PC in a couple months. However, outside that I can't think of any non-Bethesda/BioWare/Obsidian WRPGs. They've pretty much been the dominant forces in that genre for quite some time.

Nothing comes to mind aside from the Witcher and Two Worlds II. The latter of which was pretty meh.

Sorry bro.

Well there's Risen, made by the people who made the Gothic series. Honestly, opinions on it are pretty split though, either it's an obtuse piece of shit, or great. Heard the 360 version was shite, PC was better. Haven't played it myself though.

Then truly, play JRPGs. RPGs are not the biggest genre anymore except in Japan. The US has few developers with lots of RPG elements. Steam seemed to have a bunch of stuff I hadn't heard of if your a PC gamer, so you can search there.

I'd truthfully say play Demon's Souls, it is the anti-hack and slasher with a steep learning curve but super fun. It is Japanese made but they make it hard to notice.

Skyrim is going to be a large change in mechanics from the other Elder Scrolls games so there is that.

There isn't much else I would recommend. Dungeon Siege 3 looks interesting, but unless a new developer pops up, I don't know what else there is out there.

You could always try the Heroes of Might & Magic series (or King's Bounty: The Legend/Armored Princess, they're basically the same thing).

They aren't proper RPGs (more like turn-based strategy games with lots of RPG elements), but they kind of look like them.
