RTS games do not belong on consoles. It's like playing with no keyboard and a very slow mouse, and there's no room for micro either.

Case closed.

They can pull off something like Halo Wars, but with anything else a mouse and keyboard is better. It lets you do more complicated things, is easy to manage and just feels more suited to use in RTS territory. Though with the majority of games I feel better with a controller.

I don't know EndWar worked, what I don't understand is why I can't just plug a keyborad and mouse in the my PS3 and play a RTS that way. It should at lest be an option for gods sake!

If any game had the possibility to make console RTS work, it would have been Halo Wars. But that failed anyway, so apparently it doesn't work at all.

That's like making a chair and then making a chair with one leg and asking if the chair with one leg would work. It's still a chair and would work fine with some struggling and balance, but chairs were made with 4 legs for a reason. Because they just work better that way.

It just doesn't work that way. That's not what they were made for and should stay where they belong. People keep trying to shove console RTSs in our faces and talking about how they're almost as good as the PC controls. Well you ask any RTS fan and even Starcraft, which came out in '98, controls better than Halo Wars, which came out this year. It just works that way.

RTS games were made for the PC. They were made specifically for the PC. People don't need console RTS games. If you want to play an RTS, stick with the PC.

I recently received Red Alert 3 for the ps3 for my birthday, and as to not make the person feel bad I accepted it thinking I would get a subpar game that I should be playing on my computer, but I was surprised to find out that it wasnt too bad on the console. Just saying its not terrible, but its not as good either

Currently no, but I feel the future of RTS' is on the consoles. Maybe in a decade or so, when the technology catches up. Think Enders Game; somewhat limited control over evolving battlefield against strong also-evolving AI. The lack of buttons wouldn't be an issue with intuitive voice command. Nor the removal of a lot of the micromanaging that doesn't belong with high strategy.

For now thou, they should stay off the consoles.

much like fps rts doesn't belong on a console, but they'll continue to be made and fanboys will scream it's better then it's on the pc.
developers follow the money, they don't care, they don't have to play these games.

I have been campaigning against this sentiment, actually. Halo Wars promised to be the definitive console RTS experience, but that doesn't make it so.

In fact, Halo Wars is the worst RTS on the 360. The others have far, far, far better controls (we're talking light years). Something as fiddly as Age of Empires may not work well with a controller, but BFMEII (despite being a very lazy port) works just fine with it. Hell, Red Alert 3 is a very good port, and the controller serves its purpose without trouble.

I understand why people prefer mouse and keyboard, but console RTSs unquestionable do work.

EDIT: I want highlight my point about AoE. I wouldn't want to try playing that with a controller, nor can I give it up, it being awesome. But if I'm going to be playing a game as simple as BFMEII or RE3 anyway, there's not much reason not to use a controller.

I'm pretty sure there has been 1 or 2 RTS titles on the console where you could plug in a mouse and keyboard or something.

Though what do you get when you do this to your console? Oh my goodness, you get a half-ass computer.

RTS is and always will be, PC-Centric. As far as voice-commands go, well that's not going to be 100% functional for a long time and I honestly wouldn't bother with it. I don't want to be talking to my computer all day long if you know what I mean.

Very, very bad.

Not only is it impossible to have good gameplay in a console RTS (and therefor pointless) but also noobifies game for the computer.

In the end you'll need a pretty high and effective APM, something that's impossible with noobsticks and something that's being screwed up by developers trying to create games for several platforms.

Rooster Cogburn, if you have played RTS competitively on the computer you'd know that it's rather impossible to have a real good RTS on the console.

Something like this [http://video.google.com/videosearch?rlz=1C1CHMB_enNL322NL322&sourceid=chrome&q=starcraft%20pimpest%20plays&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wv#rlz=1C1CHMB_enNL322NL322&sourceid=chrome&q=starcraft+pimpest+plays&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wv&start=20] just isn't going to happen on a console.

RTS games that were made for the console from the ground up like Halo Wars are good. RTS games that have been ported from the PC to the console are terrible.
