Rumor: Australian Magazine Confirms Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer

If you've ever wanted to play a Mass Effect game with a buddy, it looks like you might be in luck.

Australian gaming magazine PC PowerPlay has seemingly confirmed the long-rumored multiplayer mode in Mass Effect 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-3-Collectors-Xbox-360/dp/B0050SYZS0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318242990&sr=8-1]. The upcoming issue of the magazine apparently features a hands-on preview of the new modes and an interview with series producer Casey Hudson.

Obviously, the magazine doesn't go into a whole lot of details - they want people to buy the issue, after all. The front of the magazine proclaims that players will be able to fight alongside their friends, but depending on what rumor you listen to, that could mean either co-op in the main game, or a series of side missions that run parallel to the main story.

It sounds like this report is a little more substantial than the multiplayer "news" that appeared [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/112121-UK-Xbox-Magazine-Teases-Mass-Effect-3-Multiplayer-Details] in Xbox World magazine. Sadly, it's going to make a lot of people unhappy, as multiplayer modes tacked on to previously-single player series often do. Hopefully, it's not going to intrude on the main game too much, but it's a little worrying to see EA and BioWare make Mass Effect something that it has never been before in order to pull in a wider audience.

We'll undoubtedly find out more information when the magazine actually comes out. Mass Effect 3 itself comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6th.

As long as it doesn't mean the singleplayer gets any worse then I don't really care. That also means no co-op, because I think Mass Effect wouldn't work in co-op mode.

But who knows, maybe it'll be fun. Won't be the first time a singleplayer franchise gets a multiplayer that everyone thought was shit but turned out to be pretty good.

Ya...lets hope it's not Coop, "important plot moral choice, you want one thing friend playing coop wants other thing." Could be fun...not :|

Next thing we know, Dragon Age 3 will have multiplayer aswell :p

Tell me how that constitutes a rumor? It's pretty clear that the magazine did this. I don't know what's uncertain about it.

Anyway, as I've said. I don't want to see a competitive multiplayer, the combat isn't exciting enough. I don't want to see a horde-wave-mode co-op thing, again the combat isn't exciting enough. If anything, I'd like to see stoy-involved co-op.

Nevertheless I do not see the point and feel that the resources and time could've been spent in the singleplayer.

Hey that is the only games magazine I still buy. Go PCPP!

I hope it is just a tacked on team Deathmatch, because if they spent any time on this I will be disappointed.

(Shameless cross-post from the forum thread, because it's so very important that everyone hears my enlightened views on the matter.)

Allow me to save everyone time and effort by pre-emtively summing up the rest of this thread right here:
- "Noooooooo! Why?!"
- "Eh, no big deal. I'm just in it for the single player."
- "EA, please remove your dick from Mass Effect."
- "Hey, maybe it'll be okay. There's no telling until we get to try it."
- "Fuck you! I'm not buying it now!"
- "Multiplayer is ruining the games industry!"
- "Well shit, this is going to remove resources from the single player."
- "Uh, game development doesn't quite work like that."
- "Yes it does."
- "No it doesn't."
- "Bioware sucks now and has totally sold out and started giving blowjobs on street corners."
- "This actually sounds potentially fun."
- "It's DA2 all over again! Another abortion of a game coming up!"
- "Hey, extra feature. Score!"
- "I didn't care anyway, ME2 already ruined the series forever."
- "Call of Duty sucks!"
- "It's all Obama's fault!"

Yup, that should about cover it.

Oh well, least it's actually confirmed now.

My personal opinion? Unconcerned. Whining about the addition of multiplayer to Mass Effect would be like a Gears of War fan getting pissed off about having 'Beast Mode' in Gears 3. "Oh no, extra features! My world is ending!"

As long as it doesn't infringe on my glorious single player campaign I don't give a damn. Multi-player is welcome when it's ENTIRELY OPTIONAL. Do you hear me Bioware/EA? OPTIONAL!!

Please don't go "Portal 2" with it and turn the single player into a tutorial for the co-op.

A side campaign like HL had would be good. Somewhat interesting, and seeing as I doubt ALL this extra time they've been given could possibly be used purely on voice recognition software, I think there MAY be some decent work put into this without TOO much being detracted from Single player. Would still prefer it if they just did singleplayer and fucked the multiplayer, but a Co-op story mission could be fun. Just... no dialogue please. Or at the very least, have a part where players have to split, then they talk to different people and the one isn't HUGELY affected by the others actions.

I always felt ME2 could have benefitted from co-op. It was a good enough game, but I've neither replayed 1 or 2. Tried replaying 2 on Insane - ended up frustrated and annoyed and left it at that.

Ninja'd. I was going for the classic "RUINED FOREVER!".

OT: Not too concerned. If its a good game with a good multiplayer element, I will probably buy it. If its a good game with a bad multiplayer element, I can safely ignore the multiplayer and enjoy the story. If its a bad game, I wont buy it. I will buy another game.

The only thing im not looking forward to is my coop partner logging into Garrus in the middle of a sex scene.

I pick those three, because I'm a special, complicated individual who can't be limited to just one choice.

Well, it's still in the rumor mill. I agree with this, though. ME3 is something I'm looking forward to and I know Bioware have wanted MP from the start, but tacky multiplayer has done nothing for me in the past. Hopefully -- if this turns out to be true -- Bioware don't take away any of their energy directed at the SP portion of the game.

I know this is meant to be sarcastic but it pretty much sums up my feelings. BioWare have been on a downward slope for a long time now, and ME3 is now the last game I'll be buying from them.

They just couldn't resist holding off 'til the no doubt future ME games to cram a half-arsed multiplayer in could they? As I've said before in the previous threads about this, I just wanted ME3 to be wrapped up nice and tight, then BioWare could fuck up the franchise to their heart's content as I would no longer care.

^ is more or less the only thing I've ever been worried about. The first two games have been fairly epic (IMO) story driven games. My Avg. play times for each being in the ball park of 25 hours each. (30ish my very first time through) If ME3's pulls off a great story, with substances, and some decent LENGTH to it... (25+ hourse) for it's single player campain, they do whatever the hell they like with the MP and DLC.

I didn't WANT MP for ME... but I can live with it if they do the story propperly and priortirise IT. If not.. bah. I'll buy it anyways to finish the story, I'm too hooked not too, but I'll whine alot, a whole lot, and sware off future DLC... like they'd care... they'll still be draining me dry with TOR at the time, so i don't it'll matter THAT much too them...

A huge resounding "meh" from me. I'm still buying ME3 even though I may despise the plot judging from ME2's main "plot" but I don't care. I'm so invested in this series to jump ship right now.
