I really hope this isn't true. I've gotten used to "friendly" ea with it's new ips and actually rather fair top ten dollar scheme, but this amongst other incidents seems to indicate. Ea's shift back into gaming's devil, and that would be real sad to see.

....and I would never buy an ea sports title again. I'm pretty sure that's how that conversation would go down.

K, so I'm never buying a game from EA Sports ever again.

They get enough money already dont they? People buy their games every year, then pay ten bucks for the code, they've basically phased out a paper manual, which blows. Then they try this shit??

I'm sorry. My money means too much to me.

Loyalty bonuses are a good thing but this EA we're talking about here. This just seems EA views its customers as atm's that they can wget money from. I'll just add this to my list of reasons not to buy anything with an EA logo on it.

Yeah, no. This is in SSX now? Well, guess I'm not going to buy that game.
Subscribers would get discounts on DLC, exclusive DLC, access to full downloadable versions of certain games before release, a "free opportunity" to extend the play experience to the PC and web, and the ability to transfer content from older titles to newer titles.
Since you're that one guy I know out of this whole thread, this is going to be a response to you.

You read that stuff, right? Yeah. The shit it offers is about as vital to the game as Playstation Plus to your Playstation.

DLC is not exactly the biggest thing is sports games. Chances are, it's just give you a bunch of free stuff.

The only possible thing anyone could be angry at here is the save transfer thing. Well, good news for you, then. SSX is not a yearly franchise. It doesn't need that feature.

Now can all of you, please, actually read beyond the "subscription service" thing?
I did read it, and upon re-reading it in fact doesn't seem so bad. But this is EA we're talking about. With Dragon Age 2, they seem to have changed Project $10 to "free DLC for people who buy new" to "free DLC for people who pre-order waaay before the game is released".

They don't exactly inspire confidence. At all.

Times like these I really kinda wish we'd welcome more sports games fans into the main fold of gaming culture. This is the kind of thing that most gamers would riot in the streets over, but Madden fans? They might be ignorant enough to thing this is a good deal and actually invest in it.
Or rip on people who play Madden. What, you think just because someone isn't a "hardcore" gamer that they don't recognize a rip-off?
Not necessarily, but if they're willing to pay sixty bucks for a roster update every year, why wouldn't they pay for something like this?

I think that the importing of a previous games courses like Tiger Woods or stats from a previous game is what would make people buy the yearly game rather than something that should be tacked on to the price additionally.

I like sports games but only buy one in each sport every 3 to 4 years because it doesn't seem worth the investment. If it were the other way around and I could import the stats from a previous year's game, I would be more likely to fork out the money on a yearly basis, but to have to pay an additional amount to do things like this is a deal breaker. I guess I will just have to avoid EA Sports titles as it seems that more and more of a game is being stripped out and sold to us later.

So now I can pay a subscription fee so I can pay $60 for a roster update! Awesome!

The day I'll buy subscription for sports games is the day that we don't have to buy a whole new game just for an updated roster and a couple of new half-baked features.

The only people stupid enough to buy into this are the ones stupid enough to keep buying the same title every single year. But this is absolutely stupid. God help xbox players who have to pay to play online in the first place.

They already pay a yearly fee of about $60 per yearly title...

I'm so happy I'm not into sports. Between "media" companies squeezing more and more money out of them and players throwing a tantrum that they aren't paid enough millions to throw a ball around it must be hard to be a fan.

But then again many sports fans are ex-jocks and as a nerd I'm obligated to hate them so all I can say is:

Like I needed another reason not to buy sports games. Ugh.

I agree with the people who are saying this could be a good alternative to the yearly updates of Madden and EA's other sports franchises (if priced right), but otherwise it's just EA being stupid as all hell. Again.

Those who think we will lose the annual game are kidding themselves. They will still keep releasing it, along with the $34.99 (!) fee.

Considering that I preordered the Witcher 2 for less than that, I am glad that I despise sports games.
