Ruffalo was great in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I reckon he would be able to pull off Banner quite well

What's the point in setting this up across a number of different movies if they're going to shaft one of the actors?

You're not going to get that feeling of everyone coming together if they start ditching people. I know this is the only one, but still.

That's a shame really, I liked Ed Norton as the Hulk, and was looking forward to seeing him along side the rest of the Avengers cast.

I personally don't see Mark Ruffalo ever fully portraying the Hulk as it should. He's too damned mellow.
Damn, ninja'd.

To be fair, I haven't really had all that much exposure to Ruffalo as an actor before, but from the past movies of seen of him, he seems to play very cool, mellow characters. I don't know how that's going to translate into a role as the Hulk, basically the living embodiment of rage.

There's still no denying that Norton is a primadonna. If the guy was about doing the job, like most actors, then he would have stayed and did is part. If he felt as though Banner wasn't going to get enough screen time, then he should realize that the Avengers aren't about Banner OR Hulk, alone. Besides, if Banner has small part of the film, then Norton could have gone off to do another project after he filmed his scenes. Not much common sense when it comes to the greedy.
He should have stayed and done the job for less money than he deserves? And what is with people insisting he needs a starring role, and a ton of screen time. I, for on, didn't even realize he was in Kingdom of Heaven until I saw the credit. He's played plenty of smaller roles.

Have you also considered the possibility that Marvel wanted Norton to having a starring role in the Avengers but didn't want to give him starring pay? Because I would think that's a definite possibility. Bruce Banner usually plays a pretty significant role especially if they are going to draw from the Ultimates story line, which I think would be a good bet.

There is also the possibility he just didn't have confidence in the film. No doubt it will be successful, but Joss Whedon is directing it so... yeah.

Ruffalo was DiCaprio's "partner" in Shutter Island, right? Eh, I always saw the Banner as a more...skinny? character. Norton's one of my favorite actors so this is a disappointment for me.

There's an article about all the confirmed actors on yahoo. Samuel L. Jackson announced it at comic-con,

I'm not really seeing where all the Norton love is coming from. Sure the Hulk movie he starred in happened to be good, but it didn't seem like he revolutionized the role or anything. It mainly just seemed like he did his job right, and as long as the new guy can pull off being all conflicted and such with his angry alter-ego he'll pull off the roll just fine.

The only real issue I see with this whole thing is the actor-character continuity that is being broken. It does seem like a slight shame that Marvel isn't going to be able to pull off a perfect character continuity with all of these movies they are setting up.

I really and truly hate it when they do this. The Punisher, Batman, other examples I can't think of off the top of my head, it never goes well.

Am I the only one who wishes that they would use unknowns for the characters instead of getting "name" stars? I know it's so they can get that elusive "non comic fan" to go to the movies, but for me it just destroys the illusion. What I mean is, I don't see Tony Stark and Nick Fury, I see RObert Downey, Jr. and Samuel L. "I'm in 316 movies this year" Jackson. (And yes, I know Ultimate Nick Fury was based on Jackson)

I don't know, I just think that the characters are what we should be going for, but by putting in well known actors it turns into an (insert the name of the actor here) Project instead of an Avengers movie.
