Streaming might be the only thing going for cafe. The reason the wii worked was A) a low entry barrier and B) any random person could use it. Also, having a screen in the controller might make the battery life or controller costs terrible.

Going from Wii to Stream? What's next, Flush? Ba Dum Ching.
It's funny because you said Flush and your name is Fiber

I think we're still one generation behind that!
The next one will obviously be Splash
Personally, I think they should go
...with the Flow
Looks like your puns have caught a popular current - just hope the tide of opinion doesn't change or you might find yourself up a creek with no paddle.

OT: It all sounds potentially cool, but my expectations havn't been met by the any of the last console generations so meh. Plus, those controllers are going to be EXPENSIVE, and I was horrified by how much a Wii-mote set you back!

..$400 to start, and possibly controllers that costs as much as a 3DS, which features its own screen, and therefore is probably a handheld console in itself. I wonder what's the plan with 3DS then.

I think I'll skip out on this one. While extremely high barrier of entry will ensure that we never have to worry about shovelwares, it will be immensely prohibitive for the customers too.

If these specs are true, this is brilliant - Ignoring the peripherals, Wii 2 is basically an Xbox 360 with beefed up CPU and GPU (and presumably memory). That means everyone already knows how to program these and there are tons of dev tools Wii 2 ready with only minimal tweaks.

Note the line in one of those leaked slides where they're bragging about how easy it is to port from PC/X360 to Project Cafe. That'd be the reason.

$400 is pretty standard, whatever people may say. However, the tech seems like it'll be still trailing the PC significantly, and this looks like a 'high end' console this time. Ah well, means the PC wont suffer from console ports like this generation did.

For a comparison, the r700 GPU is the hd4 series, the hd7 series will be out before this console is, so PC's will be about 4-5 times faster at release.

So...I don't know what any of those hardware specs mean. Is that good?

Can I get a judgment from one of the many people here who know about that sort of thing?

If any of these rumors turn out to be true the image of the console I'm getting is this cluster fuck compilation of every console gimmick they've released in the last 25 years that will look more like the parody game systems you see in cartoons than it will an actual game console.

I don't have much faith in Nintendo for anything outside of the handheld market, they broke my faith in them with the Wii. It will forever be a black stain on my relationship as a fan with them. I'm not holding my breath on this new system because I just have this nagging feeling it will be filled with suck the same as the Wii.

I'll end up buying it eventually anyway.

No point worrying about it.

Shit. I said I'd never buy a Wii. What'd I do 2 years later? Bought a fucking Wii.

Actually, as a primarily PC gamer with the two major consoles (but not a wii) i can say without blind fanboyism (butthurt or otherwise) that it looks like a pretty good console. Decent spec (what i expected tbh, it's not going to match a PC, no console ever will again but it's good) and i can see a lot of potential in the touch screen. I'm unlikely to buy it myself (just no point for me, a decent PC is all you need) but i can safely say it'll trounce the 360 and ps3.

Remember awkward weapon selection in fps? gone. RTS games? may actually work! Inventories can be placed onto the screen in RPG's and the screen can double as a keyboard for MMORPG's.

That's one possibility, also judging from the "prototype"'s look, this won't be as gimmicky as the Wii was, thus less shovelware will try to market itself with such, because there isn't much you can do with that screen other than manage an inventory, use it as a keyboard, etc. so in theory, this controller setup itself may fix the issues that certain genres have had on consoles.
P.S.$400,I'm not sure if that's cheap or expensive as fuck.

I like what I'm hearing about the controller. It sounds similar to what the DS does only without the portability and with a ton of extra power. They can keep those motion controllers though.

I can't wait to hear more about it. June 7th needs to hurry the hell up and get here, screw Easter.

This whole thing can't be true. Why in the world would I wanna stare at a small touchscreen when I have a giant TV instead? I could just play my DS instead. What would be the point of this supposed "console"?

As nice as it sounds, Nintendo has left a sour taste in my mouth over the years.
This new console could be the best thing since sliced bread but if we end up being given the same Mario game they've been re-releasing for the past few years it'll all be a bit pointless.
Hopefully they get a ton of 3rd party support if it is as good as its starting to sound.

I'm excited to hear about AMD. They've been doing some cutting edge work in the graphics field lately and IBM doesn't mess around either. Those are two strong companies with good products. :)

I'm really not digging this stuff about the controller. The fact that first party controllers are already well over 20 dollars is pretty annoying, but imagine how much an additional touchscreen controller will be? The rest of the console has me intrigued, but I hope they don't throw in such pricey units with it.

Big N is gonna lose another console war.

Nintendo, did your forget already how you beat sega?

You design the system, keep a bit open for upgrades...

When the PS4 Or X-box Red ring 720 comes out, then you plug in the main cpu, out do the other guys console...and make GOOD games.

I mean it is how the NES, SNES, worked out.

And why the Gamecube, and N-64 got pile drived by Sony and Microsoft.

Well that and you made many oh hum games at launch...

Well good luck on the new system. Might get it...but probably not if it turns out like the WII.
