I was gonna add to this discussion but Matt from LRR kind of just summed it up. If it's only "slightly" more powerful than a 360 then does it even qualify as a "next-gen" system?

I'm very skeptical of this. There's always a ton of misinformation going around about systems that have only been hinted at.

Remember guys, don't get exited for it, cause then the price will be cheaper.

We don't want another 3DS do we?

More than a 360

So? I'd be very, very suprised if it wasn't.

Could any tech heads maybe do a comparison of these specs vs the 360
ATI R700 GPU - These are the GPU's found on your ATI 47XX-48XX series cards. One such example would be to look at the best consumer card that falls under this, the 4870. The 4870 is marginally better than a 9800GT, and the 9800GT was popular(as a high-end card) around the 360's release.

So yeah, a little more powerful than a 360's a fair bet.

That being said, there's way too much that hasn't been properly revealed to assess it properly, 512 megs of RAM is pretty shit no matter which way you cut it, most current PC games need more to run than that without frequent loading screens.

Tri-core CPUs were in the 360, good to see it's in the Wii2 also.

This console will not be known for its graphics, I can assure you.
That is, if it these are the actual specs. Albeit, I haven't been paying a heck of a lot of attention to this, but I'm still skeptical about the validity of the specs here.

In responce, Sony releases a Playstation with over 2 GB of RAM and a 6950 AMD graphics cell.
It runs at a retail price of $3,500.

If they put any more stuff in that controller it will be like a swiss army knife.

Apparently the 3DS sucked so bad they removed the 3D part and turned it into a controller for their upcoming system. heh
Umm... just because something has a screen doesn't make it a replacement for the 3DS. The 3DS is a wonderful system.

wow lets put a touch screen on the controller. Sillyness I say, pointless is a better word for it. Why do consoles think they need to add shit to the controller.... Most of the time it just turns out to be a gimmick that some games even attempt to utilize. Look at the wii controller. Most of the games that were any good used the controller on its side like a real controller should be. It is already a frustrating concept on a tablet to control anything with touch. putting it on a gaming system is like a step back not forward. Everyone thinks touch is so awesome and cool until you consider the different types of touch technology. The cheaper tech, which i would assume they would use to keep costs down, sucks hardcore vs the better touch like apple uses.

Am I the only one who notices that the only evidence we have for this thing's existence is a Game Informer article which does not even bother naming a single one of the "multiple sources" that confirm the rumors, and supplies some out-of-context quotes from Iwata that could be talking about a completely unrelated issue?

Then the new generation of consoles apart from the Wii will have superior hardware.

Dear Nintendo, why you so bad?

5 years after the 360 is released, Nintendo create something "slightly more powerful", ah good, they've invented a PS3 i assume

This could work out very well for Nintendo. Consider that Microsoft is apparently looking to 2015 for the next Xbox, pushing the 360 for an unusually long lifetime. If Nintendo can get it out sooner... It will clearly be no match for the next Xbox, but if Nintendo has a Wii2 on the market with as much power as the 360 it's competing against for a year or two before the next box is out, it'll be too late.
When did Microsoft say this? Sony have said they have a "10 year plan" for the PS3, but I'll be amazed if the PS3 lasts that long and doubly amazed if Microsoft don't release a new console before the end of 2013.

Yeah. They can't afford it to have someone jump the next generation. That would be a death sentence. If Nintendo jumped early, it would decimate Microsoft and Sony.
I wouldn't consider that compelling evidence, and besides, if Nintendo have a new console out by 2013 I don't think Microsoft is going to let them maintain the lead for 3 years.

I'm sorry, but what the fuck is the point of a controller with a touch screen on it? It's not like you're looking at your controller while you're playing. It's just like with the touch pad thing on the back of the NGP, it's fucking useless.

Uh, this rumor sounds too idiotic to be true, the controllers would probably cost more than the freaking console.
