Same. I probably won't get it if Bethesda develops it, but will buy it on release of Obsidian is the developer (especially since Tim Cain has recently joined their team). Not that I think it would be a bad game, but I just don't care for the way Bethesda does Fallout.

Edit:
And I'm taking this "rumor" as just that. No sources, and I've not heard this anywhere else.

It'll be Canada.

Skyrims engine involves dynamic snow, Canada was annexed in 2059. It was the site of the huge civilian suppression and could offer the most out of Skyrim's engine and Fallout universe.

New York is a stupid place to have it, we saw it in DC and Vegas (city & desert, check) and a too many bloody games have been to NYC this year and last. The only way the could cock that up more is if they turned it into a modern military shooter.
I hope it won't be in Canada, I hear it's like Wisconsin, where I live. The gameplay would go *walk for ten hours, then see a radmoose. Then walk for another 5 without seeing anything*.

I don't understand this line of thought. Fallout 3 was soo much better than New Vegas. I didn't even finish NV. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything special compared to FO3.

I'm hoping it'll be Bethesda's project.

To those mentioning New York, from fallout wiki -

New York was the location of the United Nations headquarters.

In 2065 a nuclear reactor, struggling to power the population of 17 million people, went supercritical for a period of about 5 minutes. While there was no explosion, the NYC incident coined the term "hot summer" for a heat-related electrical overload on nuclear systems.

Maybe it fried 17 million people and now it's a giant mass grave, do you really want the next Fallout to take place in such a city? :)
Uhmmmm...yeah!

That would open up the possibility for all kinds of crazy new mutants (despite not being mentioned in previous lore). There could be different factions of mutants, all vying for power in NYC, with a factions system similar to NV. And I wouldn't be surprised if there were some vaults in the big apple anyway, gotta have some vaults.

And for once, maybe YOU could play a mutant? Come on Bethesda, that would kick ass!

I can definately see canada happening, and I would love to see a Fallout with a DIFFERENT TYPE OF BLOODY WASTELAND THAN SAND AND DIRT. However, New York would be quite interesting. They could have some kind of Taris thing going on with the skyscrapers. The higher you get the more civilized/rich/safe it is? Whole cities could be set in the sky!

New Vegas' writing was superior to F3's. Just like how KotOR 2 was A LOT better written than the first KotOR. You just have to go deeper than just the plot of the game.

Did Sawyer not say a while back that he wanted to make a fallout where you are part of the British Army in the Resource Wars? I'd buy it if he did.

Source on the New York thing? I haven't heard a single word about Fallout 4 as of yet; just speculation based on the safe assumption that one will happen.

Are we finally going to see that nuclear winter that NCR troops have been longing for?

Canada would make a fair bit of sense. The only possible problem is that a lot of Fallout's vibe has to do with the ghosts of 50's Americana and optimism, and Canada obviously isn't the USA.
Title please, 'rumours' suggest no source as rumours aren't actually true, just things we heard from here and there, but yeah, read title next time please?

They've got some loose plots around California actually and I think they are going to try and finish those. They try to avoid any other area because the lore is mostly screwed with Fallout 3 and Fallout Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel.

Given Skyrim's number of cities and New York States Location I imagine we'll visit at least portions of:

New York City
Buffalo
Albany
Rochester
Montreal
Ottawa
Toronto
Niagara Falls

am i the only one thinking of Alaska? snow, forests and kinds of predators to fight. I dont live there, so i dont know for certain, but isnt full of isolated towns?

plus if it was Alaska, theres the whole "month" of darkness thing to play with. I can see lots of night time only creatures coming out to play.

i didnt read all the comments so if someone did suggest Alaska my bad.

Vault 0 [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_0], since it was featured in a "non canon" game, I'd love to see it shoved into the story, so my vote goes to Colorado Springs, and the Cheyenne Mountain Complex.

Beyond the lack of WHOA HOLY CRAP COOL stuff in New Vegas as opposed to 3, which was actually intentional, it's difficult for me to think of a way New Vegas isn't better.

1. Far more weapons, more enemy types, more characters, more armor and clothing options, weapon mods---just more in general
2. You take full damage while in VATS now
3. Iron sights
4. Far more quests out of the box than 3 had with all expansions
5. Those quests are much better written and make more sense---no one's preoccupied with robot emancipation, converting cannibals to vampirism or rare kinds of 200-year-old soda when every day is a struggle to survive
6. People are DOING things---in New Vegas there's farms and communities and factions on missions, in 3 everyone who's not a main character is just kind of faffing about
7. New Vegas' main storyline doesn't fall apart with an 11-grade level of scientific understanding
8. New Vegas has a much better companion command system, and every companion has a detailed backstory and accompanying quest related to their history
9. Better-balanced with the different ammo types
10. Super Mutants are a community with character now, instead of being basically orcs
11. Far more branching dialogue options, and more skill checks so your character build affects more facets of gameplay
12. More ways to resolve quests in general---there's 4 factions for which you can complete the main story, all of whom have variations within them
13. Much grayer morality; none of those four factions can really be called "good" or "bad" and there are signs that even their good points could deteriorate
14. Game's smarter in general---just talk to Caesar, and compare that to any dialogue at all from 3
15. S.P.E.C.I.A.L. has been fixed a bit---you will feel the effect of lacking any one of those attributes, whereas in 3 you could easily make a sniper with 1 perception
16. You can't just max everything out and become a demigod now
17. Speech is a VERY useful skill now, used all over the place in loads of dialogues
18. Better perks---most of the ones in 3 were just skill bumps, and even the cooler-sounding ones like Lady-Killer didn't actually have many opportunities for use
19. A better sense of progression in the weapons---in 3 you used Assault rifles and combat shotguns at level 7, and you used combat shotguns and Assault rifles at level 24
20. You can only pick a perk once every other level now, so you don't become overpowered as quickly---and since the perks are better in New Vegas, it's actually a tough choice
21. Hardcore mode, which brings with it the extremely-useful Survival skill
22. Tutorial is short and you can walk away at any point during it
23. Traits are back, adding yet more personalization to each character, and the goofy stuff is in the Wild Wasteland perk so that it doesn't smack you in the face when you're trying to take the game seriously

Off the top of my head.

It begs the question, what year will it be? 2284? 2500? Also what will NY be like? Will it be the Capital Wasteland where it's a cesspool of chaos where everyone must fend for themselves, or like the Mojave where people are getting back on their feet and large governments with concrete power emerging. Also the big question.

What vaults will we see?

Although I doubt it'll ever be outside the USA, I would love to play Fallout: Glasgow. Running around the town square with half the population trying to knife you? That happened BEFORe the nukes landed.

I don't believe this for one bit, but that's just me if there is going to be on I hope for some where in Europe. Netherlands/UK/Norway would be nice! Be nice what happened outside America the aftermath of the nuclear war, if it had any affect outside of china/America. I really hope for something not in America...Asia would be fun, China as-well goes for my hopes and dreams.
