I have heard the name, that's it. I don't hate the name. The only MMO games I've played are EVE Online and Ragnarok. I like those games.

The community.

I would have liked the game if the general player base wasn't "Oh, you don't have the massive end-game stuff? Clearly, you're a newb and has no idea what you're doing."

I hate Runescape because it feels like it fights you every step of the way. The more you play, the farther you have to run to get anywhere, and you never get any faster. You always need more of stuff as you progress, but your inventory never gets any larger.

If it didn't do everything in it's ever-increasing power to hold you back every step of the way, I'd play it.

Hell, I played it till I was level 116, and even then I only quit when I realized that I was spending way too much time on it. I still think it's a good game, it's just a grind. If you are playing alone, I think you'll probably get tired of it fairly quickly. But if you have just one friend to play with and compete against, you will find yourself playing for quite a long time (6 years in my case).

not as bad as Tibia GP PLX GP PLX SELLING GS BR? BR? GP PLX GP PLX JAJAJAJAJAJA

That game has instilled into a kid who's never met a Brazilian in his life, a dire hatred of Brazilians
The solution would be shut fucking Tibia down already... Why people still play Tibia in times likes this were we have World of Warcraft?

I hate a lot of things in it, but I still like it overall.
You forgot the bots. They came back in droves when Free Trade came back, and JaGEx, despite their assurances, has nowhere near the ability to shut them down that they told us they did.
Did they? Honestly Jagex.. What the hell were you thinking on that? Grand Exchange and limited trade were probably the single most important update in years. As a Pmod, GE was like watching someone drive down the street and hose all the filth out of the gutters. It killed most of the bots, the scammers, a good deal of the spammers, trimmers, wastoids, bloods, dweebies, and Ferris Bueller.

Edit: I don't hate it. They did something barely any other mmos do- there were alternatives to grind. Any other mmo, I get tired of leveling, what else is there to do? In Runescape, I spent so much time just messing around with minigames. Realizing that I would never ever hit a maxed skillset was liberating, it removed that need to be the best and just enjoy the ride.

I haven't played in a while but, from what I can remember the lvling scale was ridiculous and you had way to many professions most of them useless. Number one reason though the rune system made it impossible to be a mage for me. To get runes which took up space in your bag, you either had to luck out in trade or a store and pay a buttload of money. Or go to like 20 different corners of the world One site to mine the blank runes and a bunch of other ones to craft a certain rune. Honestly though I didn't hate it was still fun to kill a couple of minuets on it back at school.

i was once insanely into it, but all my friends quit and i took a step back and realized how little there is to DO unless you pay for it

and even if i did desperately need to lose five bucks a month, i'd just throw it off a bridge :D

it might be better now tho, i haven't played in a million or so years

oh ya also the community is full of jerks, like i got item scammed like 5 times when i was an ubernoob who just started playin.

Eh I got older, I stopped playing.
I don't hate it but I don't nearly enjoy it as much as I use to, but I guess if I have to say something I hate about it...uhm...I'ma go with the community, I remember I had turned chat off unless I was buying something at a bank full of people.
Also I still remember this one time some dude was poisoned and ran into a bank and died right on me, I took his beret and walked outside of the bank, He ran in and said "WHO TOOK MY BERET?!!!!?" :p Funniest thing ever.

It was a minor fad back during my days in middle school. A group of like 20 people I was with would always play it in the computer lab before school. But I grew bored of it so easily because of how grindy it is.

MMO's just aren't my thing... I got to... what... level 20-some? I know level 19 is the farthest I got in WoW.

Me walking through a field.
Me: Hey a cow, I'll attack it.
Hit a 10 and cow dies.
Random Douche: Ha noob, my main is lvl 126 and could pwn you.
Me: Why the hell should I care? Are you really that much of a loser to have played this game to level 120 and have your current level 65?
RD: I'm reporting you!!!!!

-_- basically I hate it because of people and annonimity.

My favorite was always the "This is just my alt, I've got a level __ (super high level) main and I will kick your ass." Usually happened if you were doing something like mining where if you got it before the other player, they got nothing. Then they would get pissed off and threaten you like that. I'd always tell them "go get it then." They would always sign out, but nobody ever came back with another account to try and kick my ass. :p

Anyway, I think I stopped playing because I ran out of free quests to do, and then I went into the members thing for a bit, but by then I got bored and just stopped playing. This was so many years ago, I don't even quite remember how far back actually. And I've never wanted to play it again, so that was it for me.

Except there was some one time a year or so later that someone asked me what level I stopped at, so I logged in again. Except I had last signed in as a paid member in a paid area, and wearing paid member only armor. But now it was a free account again, so it dumped me in the starting town. So here I am, at a high level wearing members only armor, surrounded by newbies. Holy hell I have never had so many people beg me for free stuff in all my life. I looked up my level and signed the hell out. :p

The community is composed almost entirely of idiots and douche bags, the gameplay is monotonous and grindy AD NAUSEUM and even the combat is draggy and uninvolving.

I've given RuneScape all the chances in the world to win me over and actually get me to play to a high level. Not once has it entertained me, even that one time I decided I would give it the benefit of a doubt.

I'm not trying to sound like a snob here, I legitimately just can't properly express how unfun I find the game to be.

Used to play it quite a lot.. but so did most of my friends so that definitely made it more fun. I was a member for 2 - 3 years. I agree with people when they say a seemingly large majority of players are asses though. I have way too many traumatic memories of being scammed. Also Jagex is wayyyyy too whiny.

Yet I still wish I could somehow go back to that time of innocence when I thoroughly enjoyed RS -sigh-

I don't exactly hate it, but I'm not a fan anymore. I first started playing back in 2002, and quit around 2007 (around the time my friend who got me into it gave up as well I might add). I enjoyed it while playing, but when all my skills were in the 50s it became too much of a grind to accomplish anything and I gave up.

I also made a new account last year (since my original account was so full of now-useless members crap that I couldn't acquire anything new) and I gave up in a month since I'm just not able to enjoy the game anymore.

...I don't. The community sucks ass, and it's really grindy, but I played it for a while and enjoyed it, for a number of reasons.

- The members' world is giant, with a lot of interesting settings, and the graphics aren't amazing but they're nice enough for me.
- Every world has a story behind it, usually a good one.
- The quests have stories, and there are hardly any typical "Kill x number of y monster" quests.
- It's constantly changing and, for the most part, improving.
- Membership is pretty cheap as compared to things like WoW.
- You can find cool people and clans there, they're just few and far between.

So, yeah. The game is stuffed with flaws - don't get me wrong on that - but I don't hate it. And I wouldn't say 99% of people do, either. Sure, there are those who do, and they have good points to make.

It's a fun online social experience, though I'd play it for about the same reason as I'd play Habbo Hotel.

Though I did play seriously for a while, I don't anymore.

However, I do find the mock/stock exchange(grand exchange) thing fascinating and I like trying to influence/manipulate it and so forth.
