Ryanair to spice up trips with In-Flight Porn

Irish budget airline Ryanair has announced it is going to expand it's in-flight entertainment offerings by providing, among other things, Pornographic films. I shit you not.

Apparently how it works is passengers can log in using a special app on their smartphones or tablets, and there will be a wide range of entertainment available from games to movies to porn.

"I'm not talking about having it on screens on the back of seats for everyone to see." said Ryaniar boss Michael O'Leary "It would be on handheld devices [...] Hotels around the world have it, so why wouldn't we?"

This service isn't expected to be operational for a year or so as modifications to the planes will be needed to receive broadband quality signals.

So what do you think of this? Is it a good idea, a sane idea, or a gross idea?

Personally I don't see anything wrong in principal with the plan. It would be on personal screens, and if people want to watch porno on a flight then who am I to stop them. However... on Ryanair (and other budget airlines) they pack people in like Sardines playing Twister, and so privacy is not really an option. Things could get... uncomfortable. Also I would imagine that it would be on a "pay-per-view" basis, and would not be cheap as is Ryanair's reputation for optional extras.

Though maybe "Saucy Stewardesses 6" is just the thing I need to enjoy my holiday

Maybe I've been flying different planes to everyone else, but in all the planes I've been on, you sit next to other people. People that would take offense to you jerking off next to them.

The idea of watching porn next to a stranger is weird, not quite as strange as if you're sitting next to a family member while going away on holiday, but still. Jesus, I don't watch porn for entertainment value; I watch it for.... different reasons... which aren't usually acceptable to do in a public place

Now that I think about it, though, way back when, movies little "Deep Throat" had to be watched in public theatres (presumably by people in trench coats and big sunglasses to avoid being recognised, or at least fake beards), cause people didn't have VCRs back then. There is precedent for that sort of thing.

I'd still say it's a terrible idea, though.

I don't think they actually intend to allow people to masturbate on the plane. Just watch porn. Which doesn't make any damned sense, because you'd essentially be paying for the opportunity to blueball yourself.

We are talking about the airline who fined a man for "trying to sneak extra hand luggage aboard" because he was carrying the purse of his severely disabled wife as well as his own. Apparently, it isn't your bag if you are not carrying it, even if you yourself are being carried by the flight attendants. I will never, ever fly Ryan Air if there is any other airline to choose.
