The walking dead spoiler do not press unless you have finished the whole game all five chapters
lee's death at the end fuck man I cried
Awh man....dem feels..That was my answer...

I get attached to characters in video games really easily. This is why The Walking Dead basically broke me and I just get misty eyed every time I think of that game

Special mention to Gears of War 3

Dom's death just hit me like a truck, it took me so long to accept that he wasn't around any more

And Modern Warfare 2

The deaths of Ghost and Roach... I swear, I have never felt so betrayed before in my whole life....Just the way that whole scene worked out was perfect..It was grim, emotional and it left me completely distraught

Id say The Walking Dead one that was already mentioned but I would just like to ask why people are putting spoiler tags without mentioning what game they are spoiling first?

I would happily read spoilers for any game ive played or dont intend to play, but there are certain games I would not like spoiled, and Im basically rolling the dice clicking on spoiler tags without knowing whats in them....

I'm not sure, but Unreal 2 still makes me very sad

It's sort of like Mass Effect, as in you're a space soldier and you have your crew and such. You even spend time on the ship between missions which are just the old school "Go kill ugly aliens, get items, repeat". And then, towards the end, your ship gets blown up in front of your eyes, more or less, with the. Later you find out that they purposefully sacrificed themselves for you because they found out the bad guy was actually one of the other "allies" you presumably had in the military. You eventually find their last words to you

I'm sorry. I...I have something in my eye. Must be the rain.
Completely agree- I just couldn't believe it to the last moment that they were gone!

For me the saddest death in video gaming history is the death of Lee in the final episode of the Walking Dead.
it was painful and very sad to watch the demise of one of the greatest protagonists in gaming history. :(

I would have to go with Tales of Symphonia and the death of
Zelos Wilder. He was a hilarious character and I loved him, he managed to put a smile on my face on several occasions and I grew to love him for his humour. Then when I wanted to have Kratos in my team who was also very awesome he ended up dying because I made that choice. The worst part is that we have to kill him personally. I really hated killing him...

Sif from Dark Souls. Don't care if it was a boss with next to zero development as a character, but it was the saddest thing ever.
I don't think that requires a spoiler tag, so I won't add one.

Also in Assassins Creed Revelations
Altair's death scene. It was especially bad since all of his sequences are great and you get so attached to him
For me, the saddest death in Revelations was:

Yusuf, but I think perhaps that's because he was a total badass, as well as being quite light-hearted. It's also the fact that he gets a totally off-screen death that kills me. Of all the characters in that game, he should have had a Dying Moment of Awesome, taking everyone with him.

You're bang on the money about Metal Gear Solid 4 though.

OT: For me, I think the saddest deaths are:

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days
Xion. Just, oh my lord. Everything works together to make that scene utterly heartbreaking. I have no shame in saying it made me tear up.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
The Boss. The fact you had to kill her makes it bad. The fact she was a true patriot, ultimately doing her duty and knowing what she getting herself into makes it so much worse. The fact the rest of the world either doesn't know or doesn't care is the worst of all.

Persona 3
The Pro-fucking-tagonist. It takes a lot for a game to kill of its main character, and what's more to do it well is incredible. Also, Shinji :( I loved him. Best month of the game is his month. Although, it does make for the greatest, happiest moment in gaming history when you can save him in Portable.

Star Wars: Republic Commando
Sev. What gets me is the way the team, especially Scorch, react. They're at each other's throats the entire way through the game and yet at the end you realise just how inseparable a team they are.

That would be the death in Valkyria Chronicles, if you've played it you know what I mean.
I mean for god sakes, that was harsh.
Ah ninja`d but yeah I definitely agree I mean both characters deaths were really sad but

Issaras was really shocking and almost made me cry while Selvarias sacrifice for someone who just saw her as a tool was also pretty upsetting

Dont watch the anime though its terrible and the death scene is laughable instead of tragic

No other game has ever come close to making me cry over a characters death I mean my favourite game of all time is FFVII and we all know what happens in that but tbh I only felt pissed off when it happened as I had spent quite a while leveling her up before that happened and it was all for nothing dammit.

When you find your daughter in Lost Odyssey.
I'm going to have to go with Lost Odyssey at having some of the saddest moments not just deaths.

When you go to places and find out you have been there before and hear some of the stories about what happened then.

One that gets to me every time is near the start of the game when you get to that hotel type thing and get the memory about the young girl who you used to tell stories to. She was ill so couldn't leave and waited for you to come back and see her again. Then she died.

While I have a few particularly emotional deaths in mind, the saddest of all has to be from the Walking Dead. If you haven't played it yet, get out now - of any game, this is the worst you could possibly spoil. Don't do it. Please.

Lee's Death, Episode 5. It wasn't because I had grown particularly attached to the man - infact, he wasn't much more than my avatar for me - but rather I had grown attached to who he'd be leaving behind. We both had the same detirmination for keeping Clementine safe. When my ability to do that was taken away and the effect I knew this would have on her dawned upon me I cried. I still get upset just thinking about it.

Stay safe, Clem. ='(

Does being blasted off into space count? Because I was genuinely upset at the end of Portal 2.
He... he was sorry...
So sorry...

I always felt sorry for Jin in Dead Island. For most of the game she is scared to death or slumped over depressed because she lost both of her parents and then towards the end of the game, well you know.

Do we really need spoiler tags in a "saddest deaths" thread?
Yes, because not everybody will have played all of these games yet and they take a mere 30 seconds to do properly.

Lee's Death in The Walking Dead...

its either a point moment of pride knowing that you did everything you could to help ensure that Clem could take care of herself without you... or the moment of your greatest failure in that game.
