So, after another excercise in human misery and regret courtesy of "Walking dead: The game", I'm curious as to what people think are the saddest, most miserable games of all time.

Mine has to be silent hill 2. It left me an emotional wreck.

You...you just go ahead and discuss the issue while I sit in a corner and weep uncontrollably.

Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4 combined.

The ending makes you shed manly tears.

You can see it in his eyes... *sniff*

Y'know, it must suck to live in a world where you can be an immortal who has lived god knows how long, and still mostly meet miserable people.

I cannot stop saying this, but 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors (the submarine ending).

Also, Mother 3 is really sad from what I've heard. That, and MGS4.

Not only that . But everyone else is mortal . His friends , wife , kids ( if he decides to have a wife and kids) . They will all grow old and die . Those he loves and thise he hates . Everythig is finite except him . Everything loses value in that context . So much pain , being unchanging, while everything else dies

hmm, the ending of MGS3 was sad and i think i did shed some tears.

i dont remember MGS4 being sad.

I think Xenosaga 3 was sad, most of the characters died throughout the game, not just at the end (and each had their own tragic swan song). Heard ME3 was pretty sad, never played it.

Suikoden 3 was pretty sad. A villian that was artificially created as a biological safe for a magical artifact. The item imprinted on him the memories of all of the previous owners of the artifact, all of which died a horrible death. Though young (less than 18), he has lifetimes of sad memories and wishes to die, but due to the power of the artifact he can not kill himself.

Heard Mother 3, the Metal Gear Solid series(especially 3 and 4), and Heavy Rain had all a melancholy of an ending, however had not played any of them.*shrug*

Red Dead Redemption is pretty depressing. All the "Stranger" quests end up with rather dark endings, most of your attempts at the main story quests end with crappy situations, and the overall ending of the game......*sniff

The Longest Journey has always been the game to provoke the most emotion from me, and much of that emotion sadness. It starts out as such a cheerful adventure with a quirky and lighthearted protagonist but by the end becomes incredibly serious.

Can't really say much more without giving away spoilers. Dreamfall: TLJ is also very good in that regard as well. Ragnar Tornquist, writer for both games, has a knack for creating incredibly sympathetic and believable characters.

Someone already said Metal Gear Solid 3, so I'm gonna say Mass Effect 3. Yes, yes "OH MY GAWD, BUT DA ENDIN!!!!!" blah, blah, blah. It is the second video game to make me cry. No spoilers but some of the lows in that game are a punch in the face by a krogan. Many tears were shed.

This is actually what I was gonna say, but without the "Manly" tears bit. There's no such thing as manly tears, right? Just tears.

I think it's time to officially stop saying "Manly tears." It shall go the way of "The Bomb," "Radical," "Aight" and parachute pants. But hopefully it falls down a flight of stairs, breaks its neck, and ends up in a comatose state on its way there, except it can feel pain, and shall shed... tears. Just.... tears.

I wish I had something more to contribute, but the only games I remember shedding (not manly) tears over were MGS3 and 4.

Metal Gear Solid 3.

Again.

Also, Peace Walker.

Whenever I heard the PW AI call "Jack?" it tugged on my heartstrings just a little. Especially after being so invested in MGS3.

Drakengard 1 & 2, *MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD! ABANDON NOW IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING THE DRAKENGARD GAMES*

Every ending for Drakengard 1. Period. None of them are happy in the least. I won't spoil them here. Now the sequel, I will expound upon.

As much as I loathe the sequel what it did by switching out main character of the original game, Caim, with a whiny little son of a nasty word; it knew how to hit me where it hurt. What really sunk it for me was when you had to kill Caim's best friend (and by extension himself, due to a magic deal of sorts between them), a dragon who saved the world by becoming a seal that kept the world from going to hell. The seal created so much pain that when Caim was finally able to break her free from a prison she was kept in, she went crazy and started destroying the world herself. And she, a dragon who originally hated humans, did this to save Caim. So, the main characters have to kill her. Because of said magic deal, Caim dies too. The cutscence... AUGH! Oh it hurts, after coming to love these characters. I'm sure it won't mean as much for those who didn't play the game: but here it is.

The bad ending of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

After going through all that, you die and that miserable bastard Alexander gets what he wanted, no strings attached. Such a horrible letdown.

IJI....just IJI.

No ammount of space magic is going to ruin this game, i guarantee that.

And no, it isnt a spoiler that the world is going to end, you see it in the very first minutes of the intro. Its up to you to see if the young girl will survive the horror of this realization.
