I,like the strange bastard I am,don't have a single saddest moment in gaming. Spoilers, ahoy. I'll attempt to hide them in Spoiler Tags. If not...Wall o text with botched code at the beginning and end of each segment.

<spoiler=Mass Effect 2: Project Oerlord Ending> This is more combined parts fury and sadness. Doctor Archer hooked his autistic little brother to a Virtual Intelligence server (advanced AI by our standards, think a UNSC "Dumb" AI from Halo),designed to interface directly with Geth,a robotic race of VI's. Mobile units, however, generally contain HUNDREDS of Intelligences, working in concert to emulate true Artificial Intelligence (I like to call this a Gestalt Intelligence). All throughout the game,David Archer (The doctor's brother) uses the facility's network and comms in desperate bids for SILENCE. He wants quiet. His screams and roars are demands of silence. Why? There are hundreds of mobile Geth units in the base. That are directly linked to his mind. All communicating simultaneously. His mind translates it into audiable sound to him,and it hurts. In the end,he's just a helpless, begging wreck in a medieval-looking rig. The ENTIRE Overlord DLC is just one huge sob story.

<spoiler=Mirror's Edge Third Act> Let me be frank. Mirror's Edge doesn;t have a happy ending. Yeah,Faith saves her sister. But Faith is now wanted for at least one count of murder, probably two (She kicked Jacknife out of a helicopter hundreds of feet in the air,and she was probably framed for Ropeburn's death),uncountable charges of assault, and is utterly alone, except for her sister Kate. Mercury (Merc) is dead,Celeste betrayed the Runner Network, and is probably dead,or in prison. Miller is also probably dead, since you lose contact with him in the Server Room. Kate is on the run for Pope's murder,as well,so the Connors sisters are wanted criminals, and, quite possibly, enemies of the state. They have no hope of getting a happy ending, period. And that saddened me. Just like ME2's Overlord, this game is a sob story.

<spoiler=The Legend of Dragoon,Beginning of Disc One's Act Three> Lavitz Slambert. Throughout the game thus far,he was a very likeable character. He was socially awkward, but loveably so,cared for his friends,a mama's boy,and was unshakably loyal to his king, refusing to bend to his enemies while imprisoned and leading a glorious assault to the gates of Hell. Well,Hellena Prison. Say the name slowly, you'll get it. Anyways,he was a great guy. Many players (myself included!) developed a connection to him,and when he's killed by Lloyd,in a fairly callous and anti-climcatic manner,it just felt...Improper. He was the gallant knight, the only party member anywhere CLOSE to an understandable human being. And he's just impaled when he attempts to charge at the man who just assaulted his king. To make it even worse? Earlier,he mropised to share a drink with Dart. A promise that's fulfilled in the closing cinematic, with Dart drinking to Lavit's memory,in front of his portrait, with a filled glass in front of it. I was honestly heartbroken.

<spoiler=The Legend of Dragoon Final Scene> Oh,hey! More LoD! Yes. Rose,a party member,is immortal. For eleven thousand years, once every 103 years, she became a genocidal monster ro kill a single baby. Why? This baby would, upon maturity, become the God of Destruction. Eighteen years before the start of the game, she done it again. But this time, failed. Dart's love interest,Shana, was the target, however she had a twin sister. Who Rose killed. But that isn't the worst of it. The game's final boss? God of Destruction. So he dies, and Rose sees no more purpose in her life. As the final dungeon destabilizes around everyone (it was a GODDAMNED MOON,by the way, which crashed onto Earth),she decides to stay behind, and die with her life's only love,Dart's father,Zeig, who was ALSO alive 11,000 years ago,but she thought he died in that war 11,00 years ago. As everyone leaves,Rose gives one last smile as she's engulfed by the fireball of the moon blowing up. Actually...It's the ONLY smile she ever cracks in the game. What makes it sad to me? Well,I grew attached to her, being the tragic monster she is,and she only smiled at the prospect of eternal peace in death, with her love. Yeah.

Getting the feeling LoD has more than it's fair share of sadness in it?

<spoiler=Supreme Commander 2's Ending: Concequences> For such a shitty game, there is one thing done right. Proper characterization. Long story short, one Player Character defects, the next (admittedly, unknowingly) commits terrorisim on a GRAND scale with military grade hardware, and is imprisoned for it,and the third cleans up the mess. And says "Fuck you!" to Doctor Brackman, one of the most powerful and influential people in the universe. At least Brackman's a good guy. This sad story focuses on the second character,Aeon Illuminate Loyalist Thalia Kael. You see,her brother (who happens to be our intelligence officer in the Aeon campaign) is in the final stages of a terminal condition. After being told the concequences of her actions by our third protagonist, you know what she says? That she accepts the concequences, and only wants to see her brother one last time before he dies. The endign cinematic shows Thalia breaking down into tears and anguish before her brother's gravestone,in handcuffs, wearing a prison jumpsuit, with two armed guards. It's safe to assume that she didn't get her wish. This is one nearly made me tear up,even though I knew what was coming.

That's all I got. Enjoy~!

Red Dead Redemption
Why John?! WHY?!!!!! you could have taken pot shots from the top of the barn, or flank them, anything but what you did.

John knew that if he stayed alive Ross would continue to pursue him and his family would be caught in the crossfire. John sacrificed himself because he knew once he was dead that Ross would leave his family alone.

The irony of it all is that John sacrificed himself so that his family, especially his son Jack, would have a chance at a better life. Jack going out and killing Ross in revenge has made Jack an outlaw, not the peaceful life his father desired for him to have.

It has nothing to do with John's ability to kill all of those guys by himself, John has killed hundreds of guys just like those and always came out on top, John put himself out on the line for his family's sake. Still a sad ending but John at least had a reason for it.

I cried when Zeke died. He was such a likable guy. Words can't express what i felt.
I had such a difficult time finishing the bad ending just for that reason. It is sad though that no matter what the ending is depressing in some way
Cole sacrifices himself in the good ending and you are forced to kill Zeke in the bad ending in order for Cole to create his new world order.
The endings to that game were very sad.

Shadow Hearts 1&2. Anyone that has played that probably knows who I'm talking about.
One of the most tragic parts of any game I've ever played. I've barely played Shadow Hearts 2 specifically because it follows the bad ending of 1. After working so hard to get the Good ending in Shadow Hearts and finding out that 2 followed the other one, I just couldn't bring myself to continue playing, and I haven't since, and that was YEARS ago.
Yeah, like the other guy said. If you finish 2 then you might not be so sad anymore :)
Usually I wouldn't spoil things (I hate spoilers) but in your case you may never have found out otherwise lol.

This situation is similar to Final Fantasy X and X-2. My sister had no idea there were 3 endings to X-2 until I told her last year. She thought all along the sad one was all there was. hahaha

There are variations to it based on your actions but the ending of Silent Hill Shattered Memories can be a bit of a downer.

The final scene in brothers in arms hells highway,
Red is crippled, Corrion will never forgive baker and Baker himself is begining to be unable to cope with the pressure of leading his men, begining to hallucinate about the people he couldn't save. This is on top of all the deaths so far.

The Good end to Infamous 2.

That and the announcement of yet another Mario game... not sad but definitely depressing.

Shadow of the Colossus. Beating the final boss seemed pointless after that scene. Also Gray Fox's death in MGS1 is the first time I recall feeling sad about a video game. I've memorized the words...

That part, I just got to it, I cried, i wont lie to you people, I cried salty tears. but i could not help smiling when i saw what happened next.

This is the first time in a long time that i have been truly happy at a game's ending.

When Sev died, I was mad at the game
Dude, this game needs a sequel horribly. It had some of the very best AI for its time. Hell, with today's standards for "AI", Republic Commando easily counts as some of the best AI. The difficulties were perfect. The action was incredible, even though it was only rated 'T', which just goes to show that you don't need to be splattered with guts to be entertained. The story was amazing... Ugh, why didn't they finish this story already. Did this game not sell well? I want to know what happens to Sev!

Deus Ex. One particular choice has a horrible, unforseen consequence.

If you leave by the appartment window as your older brother Paul suggests, you will later come across him lying dead on an autopsy slab. I found this horrible and very upsetting.

Not a death but it really just grinds into you how grim things are getting and the hopelessness of being a small group taking on something bigger than yourself.

The saddest moment in a game... The only game to EVER make me tear up a bit was in XCOM when Jurgen Berger, my highest ranked soldier and sole survivor of the original team, was mind controlled and forced to kill half his team before the rookie put him down.
It's moments like that which make me convinced that someone needs to make a (Good) Tv Series out of X-com, heck it'd write itself just play it through a few times and write down the best bits.

OT I'll offer;
Chrono Trigger
Frogs speech before cutting the mountain in half. The epicness just makes me feel all the sadder

and

Wing commander 3

Wing commander 3, where it turns out your furry best friend was a traitor all this time

Lost Odyssey

just thinking of it makes me sad.

*snif*

when Kaim's mother dies

I only got halfway through the game but do you mean Lirum? Cause she was Cooke and Mack's mother, she was Kaim's daughter which made it all the more sad.

Been a while since I played it but FFVI had its moments.
fak!!! you may be right...

in any case, someone close to Kaim
