Luckily for me I borrowed halo 3 from a friend since I felt that it could be very bad. I've been playing since halo 1 which I found surprisingly good and after that halo 2 which was still good and still had a good continuing storyline. Halo 3 just outright killed off the entire halo 3 series for me with it. The story was predictable beyond believe and the only thing really fun about it was the multiplayer section, which became boring after a few hours of playing the same maps. I returned it as soon as possible after that and imo they could have just left it at adding an extra cinematic to the end of halo 2 to end the whole thing.

On the other hand I did buy fable 2 its good but not as good as Mr. molyneux seems to let us believe. It's a good game nonetheless but it just has a few big flaws which is why it doesn't deserve a grade above 9 (come on 9? I thought that was reserved for games which only were published once in a lifetime). The lack of the minimap, the dog being annoying and almost useless, not being able to die (which takes the whole essence of a health bar away) and the entire magic system (which doesn't allow me to be a mage again) to name for a few. Other than that it is fun as you can customise a lot and the entire style of the game is just great.

A few others I bought recently due to hype where:
Fallout 3
Hesitated at first but a friend of mine showed it which led me to buy it as well and i dont regret it even after playing a good solid 40 hours.

Mass Effect
Only pissed me off because they left the ending open so they could make another 2 parts, but a very good game nonetheless

Command and conquer 3
Why ea why! It was just outright disappointing. (being a long-time fan of command and conquer)

This is actually one of the reasons I stopped buying a lot of games since they didn't live up to the hype and ofcourse the overrating of games, they seem to be throwing around 10's and 9's as if every game is as good as it can get.

I found S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl by searching on Amazon.Co.Uk for similar games to what I liked at the time, just by pure luck. I have now clocked up about 2 years in total of in-game gameplay time, at 2 hours a day, so..

(math)

1400 hours of gameplay (give or take).

I have also got the sequel, learnt a load I didn't need to know about Chernobyl, loads of stuff like that.

I will be buying Fallout3. I will probably never finish it though - the only game I have ever finished was Assassin's Creed, and that was onlyeah

in two years, there are 17,520 hours. It would take about 24 years to log that much time in 2 hours a day.

24 x 365 x 2 = 17520

17520 / 365 / 2 = 24

Nono.

The game has a time-lapse change, so you don't play in realtime:

In the game, it takes two *real* hours for one *game* day to pass.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I borrow it from a friend for a weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. It got me into Infinity Ward's products, actually, and now, I have Call of Duty 2, and am looking forward to 6.

That, and The Orange Box... heard excellent things about Portal, and then started to fall in love with Half Life. Plan on getting The Orange Box on PC, and maybe even Left 4 Dead, even though I'm not really into zombie games.

The Orange Box, Halo 3, Gears of War, and initially the Guitar Hero series. I had no interest in it at all and thought it was stupid. Then I played II with my cousin when I went to California, and I got completely hooked.

Metal Gear Solid 4, I had never played a Metal Gear game before, but it has become one of my favorite games of all time.

Also Mass Effect, which was a disappointment to me. I like RPGs and third person shooters, but the combat was a bit awkward in Mass Effect. RPG games aren't usually the most exciting games ever, but the points in the game with fun fights are few and far between. I don't play a game to sit through elevators and listen to the council ***** about how I'm not doing my job right, I play to have fun. I'm starting to rant now, so I'll just end it there.

I usually don't buy things based on hype but frankly I've always been an avid fan of the Fallout series and although I haven't played a Bethesda game since that brown disaster that was Morrowind I'll admit I was a little too eager to see them fuck up.

Also.

Far Cry 2 - Because of the disappointment I keep hearing about in the forums and at the same time praise by big time reviewers, I just had to give it a shot just to know who was right for sure. Was disappointed too and was about to remove it from my comp when I realized that it was actually fun (Had been playing for almost 20 hrs straight that day).

Fallout 3 - I didn't like Oblivion. As Yahtzee once said "A lack of immersion is a dogshit bullet in the eye" so I was a bit hesitant about getting this because it was from the same developers. After a few seconds I saw an npc get stuck to a wall the next someone walking without moving his legs then I thought "Dammit this is Oblivion!". But after almost an hour outside the vault I got used to it. Maybe this game is not about immersion, maybe Yahtzee's rule doesn't apply to all games. Been playing this game ever since.

If Fable 2 really lived up to the hype created by Peter Molyneux it would be hailed as the greatest game of all time and angels would sing everytime Fable 2 was mentioned, it's still an awesome game but incredibly overhyped.
To be fair, he called it a 9 out of 10 game, which is what it is. Every game's overhyped these days, from GTA4 to LBP to CoD5... It's not enough to peer above the parapet any more - it's like the fucking Hype-o-Tron 2000's gotta scream onto the battlefield of public consciousness all cannons blazing.
QFT.

Since reviews have to play virtually every game that comes out, you would think that they would be have strict tastes on what makes a good game. Instead, they will drool over any game that has a hyped up E3 announcement. Most of the Triple A titles they review are just average in my eyes. This only makes me belieave that they review based on getting paid by developers. They also says that "insert hypedup game here" has the most beautiful graphics you have seen. No, most games today look the same. They also say "insert hypedup game here" has very innovative and exciting playing mechanics. No, they were copy/pasted/slightly improved mechanics from other games. Maybe my standards are too strict, but "professional" reviews have zero credibility in my book.

GTA4......A waste of my $60.......I hated that game and I can't believe I let my friends talk me into buying. They kept saying it was so good and that I loved it. NO! I despised the story. The game play I enjoyed a little bit. Driving was annoying as fuck. I just didn't like it.

CoD4. Loved it. I wasn't going to buy it until I had around 8 real gaming friends tell me to get it, and people on live kept telling me to get it. So I bought it, and fell in love with the game. And the story was really good.

CoD5.....I know it's not out yet, but I'm letting my friends tell me what to do. I played the beta at my friend's house....didn't seem that great. But then again CoD4 was amazing, so I don't know. I'm probably going to go up and rent it. See if it's worthy to buy.

GoW. AMAZING. I love that my friend told me to get this. I wasn't thinking about that because I have friends that love it, and friends that despise it. But I had one friend take me to his house and we played it all fucking day/night long. Even though I sucked at it I loved it. So I went out and bought GoW when I got my own box. I still play the game today(well....not anymore considering I am in love with GoW2)

You wanna know an interesting factoid? Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 have all made Game of the Year for their respective years. In the Gphoria award show anyway, not sure how legit that really is.

And you know who made those games? It wasn't Bioware or Blizzard. Not even Bungie.

Dragonball Z: Budokai.

I don't even like DBZ that much...
I've watched it, sure, but I recognise the difference between watching it and enjoying it.

Now that I think about it, I don't even like fighting games that much...

How the hell did they get me to buy that game?!

If you get the new one that's coming out in November I believe or Tenkaichi 3, those ones are much better than regular old budokai. I'm of the opinion that the fighting setup in those games is one of the most unique and enjoyable I've ever played. It's not ultra complex combo fighting like Tekken is but the "go-anywhere-you-please" fighting environment is something I just love. Those games were actually pushed on me by friends and it was great.

On the other side, Fallout 3. I hated it. I loved Oblivion but I guess that's because I'm just in love with games from that time setting. The setting in F3 was unique and very cool but it just didn't "fit" well with me. Also, the karma levels. I hate karma in games. Oblivion didn't have one and I thought it worked because I could do whatever I wanted with little or no worry. In F3, there was none of that free fun for me. I found myself very bored by the game itself, only playing it because I had nothing better to do. So I'll give it props for it's setting and some of the quirkier stuff (the Gary Vault was hilarious) but overall, I'm glad I bought it used and returned it.
