Luckily for me I borrowed halo 3 from a friend since I felt that it could be very bad. I've been playing since halo 1 which I found surprisingly good and after that halo 2 which was still good and still had a good continuing storyline. Halo 3 just outright killed off the entire halo 3 series for me with it. The story was predictable beyond believe and the only thing really fun about it was the multiplayer section, which became boring after a few hours of playing the same maps. I returned it as soon as possible after that and imo they could have just left it at adding an extra cinematic to the end of halo 2 to end the whole thing.
On the other hand I did buy fable 2 its good but not as good as Mr. molyneux seems to let us believe. It's a good game nonetheless but it just has a few big flaws which is why it doesn't deserve a grade above 9 (come on 9? I thought that was reserved for games which only were published once in a lifetime). The lack of the minimap, the dog being annoying and almost useless, not being able to die (which takes the whole essence of a health bar away) and the entire magic system (which doesn't allow me to be a mage again) to name for a few. Other than that it is fun as you can customise a lot and the entire style of the game is just great.
A few others I bought recently due to hype where:
Fallout 3
Hesitated at first but a friend of mine showed it which led me to buy it as well and i dont regret it even after playing a good solid 40 hours.
Mass Effect
Only pissed me off because they left the ending open so they could make another 2 parts, but a very good game nonetheless
Command and conquer 3
Why ea why! It was just outright disappointing. (being a long-time fan of command and conquer)
This is actually one of the reasons I stopped buying a lot of games since they didn't live up to the hype and ofcourse the overrating of games, they seem to be throwing around 10's and 9's as if every game is as good as it can get.
