saints row 2 has way less sexural content then gta 4. There no prostitutes, only strip clubs' an hookers on the street. Also im 13 :D
There are hookers, I've killed allot of them. oh NVM that's that I get for not reading. But any way there is still the sex mini game, Shandi (as much as I love her. XD), the escort game, you protect a porn star, you kidnap hookers, you have strippers in your houses, you kill cops and FBI, drugs galore, and I could go on for ages. I'm 20 and my mom would flip if she knew about SR2 and that I play it. She still treats me like I'm 13. God she wouldn't get L4D2 because and I quote "Zombies are ewwie." and because you kill people.... the zombies are dead.
Anyway, as much as I am for raising a middle finger to parents I also don't like kids playing rated M games. I once saw my cousin, that was 8 at the time, play GTA. I was floored my uncle didn't care. As old school as it may sound ratings are for a reason, just like movies. It's an amazing game and it's fully clear why it's M.

Theres some drug content and you can throw old ladies off of buildings.
So.. no, nothing objectional in Saints Row 2.
Wrong.
Metalchair said:
the only sexual content in that game is the strip clubs, theres some cleevage and hookers on the streets. not as bad as gta.
Wrong.

Are we forgetting the sex minigame in SR2? How about the Escort missions where you drive around a car while people have sex in it, hearing everything inside?

If that's not sexual content I don't know what they're looking for unless they think it's a porno, and it's definetly worse than GTA. So yes, there is objectional content.
Also you can play as a female character and take all your clothes off for the entire course of the game. I know because I have done this for my second playthrough (damn you lonliness).

Well you don't get cash for it so technically not a prostitute. XD You're just a whore, if you're a chick like I am in SR2, or a player, if you're a dude.

Recently, i went to purchase Saint's row 2 due to yahtzee's recommendation but the store clerk told my mom it was like grand theft auto so she refused to let me buy it. The real problem she has is with sexual content and i was wondering is there really enough sexual/objectional content to prevent me from buying it?
I have some game suggestions for you

Your mom is doing you a favor! Playing slop like dragons age: origins, modern warfare 2, and other such games would be such a waste compared to these wonderful titles.

I find it funny how people resurrect year old threads about buying decisions, acting like the guy is still waiting to buy the game 11 months later, and that he's waiting for that one magic opinion which will allow him to get it.

Chances are he's already bought or played Saint's Row 2 by now, or at least set his sights on newer, even more unsuitable games.

Game ratings are bullshit, you will see so much more sexual content in a 15 movie than in a 18 game.. suprisingly the only game i have ever seen tits in is the dantes inferno demo and that suprised me.. just didnt think games were allowed to do that..

Well there's a mini game where you whore yourself out to undersex'd soccer moms and make her orgasm with the analog sticks, but it doesn't actually SHOW anything, and you can get completely naked but it blurs out all your genitals. It's just as bad as most M rated games, which is to say it's about as bad as a graphic PG 13 movie...

Yeah, there's quite a bit more objectionable content than in GTA, in pretty much every category worth mentioning. It's got everything you can put in a game without causing a media firestorm. The design is ingenious, that way.

Seconded. Also: Holy shit, The Learning Company's still around? I remember playing a bunch of their games on the Apple IIe when I was 8 or 9.

On topic: For all the cheep shots and lowbrow gags that the GTA and SR series use, they're actually fairly complex and cynical jabs at American pop culture as a whole. The level of violence is simply one of one of these. I'm inclined to say, if you're not old enough to come to this understanding on your own, you probably really shouldn't be playing them. That said, a lot of people simply choose not to analyze these titles, so the ultraviolence is it's own form of cathardic entertainment, and the Jack Thompsons of the world point and say that we're generating sociopaths.

To Corth, listen to your mother, you're probably better off for it. Saint's Row 2 will be just as good in another four years when you're old enough to buy it on your own, and hopefully, then you'll be able to apretiate more of the humor than you can today.

It's also flat out funnier than GTA4, in a very over the top Robocop meets Stephen Colbert kind of way.

There's some parts of the game that seem to be calling the player out for being a sociopath (or at least relating to a sociopathic character), but I wouldn't credit the writing with being that intentionally subversive.

It's certainly a hoot to interpret it that way, though.

There's a couple of missions where its flat out stated you're playing a complete sociopath. Combine this with the fact that the writing is overall quite good, and I'd guess it was very intentional.

I didn't resurrect it. But my statement is true none the less.

I don't know if you can convince her, the game is very funny and wacky, but if your mothers final decision if no, then be thankful she is taking an interest in what your getting up to. But it deffinatly isn't like GTA in the sense that it is gritty violence but the sandbox style is similar.

Those people calling him a tool, nice job...he's 14 and asking for info about a game, bet you guys must feel real tough after slamming him over the net. Either way good luck!
