Unfortunately they also announced that the movie is going to be from the Alliance POV. Considering that "seeing both sides of the conflict" is what made the Warcraft story interesting, I really can't imagine how this movie can be good.

I'll only see this if it's based on the Warcraft games meaning 1-3 and not World Of Warcraft. I would not pay to go and see hours of grind.
Seconded.

Sadly I think this will turn out to be the biggest heap of shit film adaption EVER MADE.
It's nothing to do with the director, nor will it be anything to do with the actors.

THE SUBJECT MATTER IS SHIT FOR A FILM. It's barely acceptable as subject matter for a game, and the story is full of so many giant-sized manholes that you could lose a road train in it.

I'm thinking this will be a lot closer to "Dungeons & Dragons: The Movie" than "Lord of the Rings: The Epically Awesome Trilogy of Awesomeness."

HEY! Don't knock gnome Death Knights or I'll send Sweetiepie after you!

Jokes aside, what do you expect from a game that treats aqua regia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_fourth_wall]. WoW is casual, light entertainment, easilly accessible for the masses that does not take the time to actually care about the plot elements or even the quest descriptions!

A movie however has a bit of potential there. You won't get away with raping the fourth wall (all that much) so unless they fill miss Pilton's role with the actual miss Hilton, there's a good chance we might actually resurrect that smoldering, mangled corpse that is the wall. Plus immersion is pretty much a must for a movie unless you are doing a spoof and I seriously doubt that's what they are going for.

So... with all the wonderful lore of the Warcraft world, colorful races, wonderful locations; and with the things that the game does badly moved out of the way, it's all up to the scriptwriter really. Could be good.

Interesting. Just as long as it doesn't fuck the story over any more than WoW did. Here's hoping it'll be based on the first three games. Who knows, we may even get a sequel that provides the closure WoW didn't.

Yeah, it'd have to be based off of the RTS, not the MMORPG. I'm not too bothered with it being from the Alliance POV, but how would they define that? The dwarves and gnomes were thought of as slaves to the humans(Blood Elves too until they split), and their terms with the Night Elves were more along the lines of neutral.

And since it's Alliance POV, doesn't that mean that it'll make the Horde look like the bad guys? That's what I loved about Warcraft, no one was the bad guy.

Still, I can't wait and I'm going to see it no matter what they say about it.

If it is ANYTHING like the epic cinematic scenes in Warcraft III, I'm watching it.

God....damnit. I just know they are going to fuck this one up.

EDIT: Then again...blizzard cinematics ARE amazing. If its anything like that, I dont think that i'll be too worried.

The blood elves joined the horde, as did the Undead
Necessity. It was either that or have a Lordaeron-Alliance style dealy containing only the Forsaken and Blood Elves. On a continent which is primarily filled with the Alliance (The numbers of Stormwind alone outnumber the entirety of the Horde) - Without Thrall to keep Varian off the Undercity, Sylvanas would quickly lose her one and only real stronghold.

they killed Illidan
They killed Uther in Warcraft 3. Is that murdering the lore too?

massive battle in place of some capture the flag matches
Gameplay =/= Lore. The sooner you realise that the better.

The night elves for some reason joined the industrialist humans and Dwarves
Mostly due to the Alliance during the Battle at Mount Hyjal more than anything else and once again, necessity. The Night Elves are outnumbered and outgunned by the Orcs, Taurens and Trolls. Alone, they wouldn't really have a great chance.

which doesn't seem to bother the night elves anymore.
Go do some Night Elf/Draenei quests in Forest Song, Ashenvale. Also, the entire premise of Warsong Gulch is protecting the forest and nature.

Also, there are Gnome Death Knights, GNOME DEATH KNIGHTS
Third Generation Death Knights. It's...really quite simple. If you go make yourself a new fresh Death Knight and watch Instructor Razuvious operate at the very start you see the logic behind the choices.

They're just incredibly strong warriors (not the class, but rather they're proficient in combat) who have the personality and corruptability to fight for the Lich King. I'm not exactly seeing the problem with Gnome Death Knights. Generally people pick the "holy/hippie" races like Draenei, Night Elf or Tauren when they complain, but feel free to mention those if you want, the answer is still the same.

You tell me the lore isn't mutilated.
With the exception of a) the case of super Deus Ex Machina which is the Naaru being implimented and b) the Sargeras retcon, then no. The Lore is not mutilated.
There is no point in arguing it. Most of the people who complain about the lore that came from WoW wouldn't have an issue with it if WCIV had been released and had the exact same story development as WoW has had.

Personally I still hate the space goats, but I won't say it "Ruined" the lore.

Either way I think Raimi is a great choice to do this. A big name director who doesn't really need money means, hopefully, that he honestly appreciates the source materiel and won't bastardize it.

Why? I'm just curious. What's so exciting about this? It'll be PG or PG-13 at the most. It'll have a ridiculous amount of CGI. It's a Hollywood movie. Spider-man 3 was crap. Warcraft popularity has already peaked (and who in their right mind would keep playing it after SW:TOR comes out?). And video game to movie adaptations are so far batting 0. Why in the world would you be excited for this?

Spider-Man 3 was about the only movie the man has ever made that was crap. If someone makes a dozen decent movies, 6 amazing movies, and one bad movie, he isn't a crap director. Every director makes a bad movie or two.

All the LOTR movies were PG-13, a movie doesn't have to be rated R to be good.

Oh, and while I don't play WoW I can tell you that there won't be a lot of people leaving it for TOR. TOR is basically building itself up to be a single player game with online.

What a fantastically reasonable statement made by Mr. Boll.
I must change my piracy right this minute and pay for every one of his films in support of this statement.

That is hilariously insulting to any fans he did have that where gamers, I'm sure he'll be hearing from both of them very soon.
Ha, actually, feel free to pirate Boll's movies, he gets paid regardless. That's how he's managed to keep making movies despite... well... the movies he keeps making. The German government subsidies his movies so he either makes a hit and makes money or makes a steaming pile of shit and makes money.

OT: My normal apprehension at an announcement like this is quieted by the fact that it's Blizzard and, like everyone else has said: if it's not good, Blizzard won't release it. So, could we be looking at the first good video-game movie... very possibly

I've heard somewhere that the film is placed between Warcraft 3 and WoW, but it doesn't flow into WoW. But don't quote me on this.
