The sensible among us will realise that Warcraft lore has been around for some time prior to the MMO and the MMO has just about exhausted all the lore that was left standing for its existence...

So, if I were a betting man I would think they'd do something new, not in any of the books or games to date and then that would allow for more World of Warcraft related repetative content with new textures.

But personally, I think a Warcraft film would be more fitting in animation format with the style that the Warcraft 3 cut scenes had, a la Final Fantasy (the film).

The thing that kills most video game movies is that they can never decide whether to cater to gamers or everybody else. They usually try to do both and the result it the gamers see their favourite gaming world/char get reduced to a few horrible catchphrases and action sequences and everybody else has no clue as to what the hell is going on. On the other hand Rami made Evil Dead, and it doesn't matter how may movies he slaughters, because he made Evil Dead, thus he is god.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I actually think the lore isn't gritty enough to be made into a live action movie along the lines of LoTR, and would be better animated.

Also agreed.

Seems to me the best thing to do is go into it with ZERO expectations. It's much harder to be disappointed that way. As for Raimi directing, the Spiderman series is the only thing I have seen and the first two were pretty good. Yes the third was unexpectedly crap, but maybe thats because he was allowed to be a writer on that film. Perhaps he should lay down the pen and just sit in his little directors chair...

Best. Movie. Ever.

But on topic, games with strict cinematic storylines have potential for good movie adaptions, although what we have seen so far is sub-par (Doom would be a good example). WoW, on the other hand, is all about the PLAYER'S story: their gear, what they have done, how many people they have killed. If they want to make a Warcraft movie, at least base it on a game with a plotline, such as Warcraft 3.

It better be CG rather than live action.

And it better have Metzen playing Thrall if he's in the movie.

That's not even slightly true.

this movie is going to rock i know I'm going to have a g13 j in my hand before i go see this movie. and Sam Raimi is directing this!!!!!!!!!! This movie is going to rock peoples balls/ovaries off. I just hope that there is a lot of action and not a lot of plot. you know something simple like "dwarf grandma needs some lava from mc" and the movie is a massive MC run. Vanilla style!

If anyone was to make a WoW movie, I'd want Sam Raimi to do it. He can make bloody and violent and sometimes frightening movies without sacrificing humor. With Army of Darkness he even did straight up slapstick-fantasy, which is what I'd like to see in something like Warcraft.

Considering he's the director of the Evil Dead trilogy, the Spiderman trilogy (the first two were great), and Drag Me to Hell, I can see this movie actually being good.

Who here's hoping for a Bruce Campbell cameo?

Can anyone think of a movie based on a game that has done well?

I can only think of Doom, and well...that sucked!

Hitman, was okay, didn't get the attention it seemed to deserve.

Still waiting on the Splinter Cell movie that seems to have vanished (promo was on the Chaos Theory game), is there a catchy phrase for a movie that doesn't exist but has small promo previews, like vapourware in the case of Duke?

Spider-Man 3 was a yawn fest, I almost turned the damn thing off because the emo section went on for far too long and way too far, that whole dance number was cheesy.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
The First Pokémon film is on the list of wiki "Films based on video games" so I'm going to use that as well, which to date is still the highest grossing anime film in the US, and highest grossing film based on a video game until Tomb Raider came along.

So there's three right there.

Raimi has done some spectacular movies, including Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. However, I am not holding my breath for this WoW movie. I like the warcraft universe and the lore, but I dont think they will be able to make a movie about some of the more interesting parts and expect non-fans to see it.

Long as this movie does NOT star Varian on his crusade of emoness, it has a chance.

You guys are seriously going to watch a movie of an MMO?
That's off the scale on the Geek-o-Meter!

If it's more based on the lore & RTS games than the MMO then I'll care and maybe even watch it.
I'm not exactly sure if it's been explained yet (I don't have the time to look at every post, seriously sorry if I've been ninja'd) but the movie takes place between Warcraft 3 and the time-with-out-real-story, also known as World of Warcraft.

So basically, it's the last big hurrah before the Warcraft story went completely stagnant in WoW. I'm looking forward to it.

I wasn't terribly impressed with the Spider Man movies. I also have a grudge against him for the way he slaughtered the T.V. miniseries adaptation of the Sword of Truth novels. I watched the double episode premier of "Legend of the Seeker" and was thoroughly disgusted. The first 5 minutes were decent, but then it took a nosedive and ate dirt for the remaining 2 hours. You can imagine my dismay when I learned that the series would be continuing for another season. I was really hoping it would just die after the first season, but apparently plenty of slack-jawed plebs actually liked it. Thus, the underwhelming parody will continue.

As for a Warcraft movie, it is my personal opinion that Raimi won't treat the established story and lore any better than he did with the Sword of Truth. Therefore, Warcraft fans will likely be disappointed, and at best it will get a tepid reception by those who know little about the setting or the games.

OK, this means one thing, and I don't care about anything else...

BRUCE CAMPBELL IS GONNA BE IN WORLD OF WARCRAAAAAAAAAFT!!!!! :D

This may just be the single most amazing thing in the history of time. I don't even care if the film's rubbish! I just wanna see Bruce Campbell in World of Warcraft! :D
I'm praying right now that Bruce will be the one who scream LERRRROY JEENKINS!

Considering that Rami is one of the best out there, I have no doubt that this will be amazing. If done correctly this could be his Lord of the Rings (Yes, Peter Jackson DID make movies before LotR and they were awesome.)
So quit your bitching and be grateful they didn't give it to Micheal Bay. At lest this guy cares about the fans.

I was hoping that they would make a movie of Warcraft 2 or 3, but I guess that now we are well and truly stuck with a WoW movie. I loved the evil dead trilogy and the first 2 spider man movies, and hopefully Raimi can salvage this not too promising looking movie.
